Chereads / THE DUKE OF THE NORTH'S WIFE / Chapter 44 - (Chapter 44)

Chapter 44 - (Chapter 44)

(Chapter 44)

Since Clarisse Faeloria married the Duke of the North, Lorcan Frostborne, many changes had taken place in the region. The people were grateful for her presence, as Lorcan now seemed more approachable and open. Their romance became a popular topic of discussion, spreading like gossip, with many believing that Lorcan's change in demeanor was entirely due to his wife's influence.

Lorcan had heard these rumors, but rather than being offended, he felt proud. To him, it was proof of Clarisse's remarkable qualities. When Aedric Thornshade reported on these developments, Lorcan merely offered a faint smile. Aedric himself never expected his lord to change so drastically—it almost felt unnatural.

"Love can change a person so much… It's terrifying," Aedric mused as he walked away, passing Sasa, who bowed respectfully.

Sasa, who had never given much thought to love or romance, quietly acknowledged Aedric's handsomeness. The aide was well-known for his easy smile, and it was no surprise that many of the female servants admired him. Who wouldn't be drawn to a handsome man? Throughout history, good looks had always been an irresistible charm.

Feeling her heart begin to race, Sasa quickly walked away, unwilling to linger any longer.

"Madam, I've brought the chicken porridge you requested," Sasa said as she entered Clarisse's chamber.

"Thank you, Sasa. I'm really not feeling well today… I suddenly craved this Eastern-style porridge," Clarisse replied weakly.

It had been two months since their wedding night, and Clarisse was beginning to feel increasingly exhausted. At first, she could keep up with their intimacy, but now, fatigue overwhelmed her, and she had even asked Lorcan to restrain himself. To her surprise, her passionate husband never seemed to tire, almost like an addict.

As a sorceress, Clarisse could easily heal physical exhaustion with magic, but this weariness was different. It felt as though her mind was being drained.

"It's so exhausting… He's so eager every night," she murmured, unaware that Sasa had overheard.

"Madam, if you're feeling overwhelmed, perhaps you should speak to the Duke about… reducing it," Sasa suggested in a hushed tone.

Clarisse listened to the advice, but instead of agreeing, she shook her head.

Sasa was surprised by Clarisse's reaction. Despite her fatigue, she had no intention of stopping her husband. The reason was simple—Lorcan's passion during their nights together was undeniable. Though tiring, she couldn't deny that she also enjoyed every moment of it. The thought of their intimacy made her lips curl into a small smile; there was something sweet and warm about it all.

As noon approached, Clarisse prepared to visit the village with Sasa and a few guards. The last time she had been there, they were still in need of magical tools, and she planned to ask Lorcan to expedite the delivery. When she entered his study, she found her husband staring at her with a rather spoiled expression before pulling her into his embrace and kissing her.

"You came at the perfect time," Lorcan said with a smile.

Clarisse gently held his hands, stopping him from going further.

"Are the magical tools ready?" she asked seriously.

Lorcan looked slightly disappointed but answered, "Yes. Aedric has prepared them, and they will be delivered this afternoon."

"Good. Then I'll head to the village now."

"I'll go with you," Lorcan suddenly declared.

"I can go on my own. Aren't you busy?" Clarisse replied, glancing at the stack of documents on his desk.

"Not anymore," Lorcan said, averting his gaze.

Clarisse sighed, noting the overwhelming amount of unfinished work.

"You have so much to do," she reminded him firmly.

Lorcan lowered his head and muttered, "This reminds me of something I read before."

"What did you read?" Clarisse asked, puzzled.

"Someone in love can sometimes become completely irrational," Lorcan replied, his face beginning to flush.

Clarisse covered her mouth, trying to suppress her laughter. "How adorable," she thought, watching as her husband's face turned red all the way to his ears.
