Chereads / THE DUKE OF THE NORTH'S WIFE / Chapter 12 - (Chapter 12)

Chapter 12 - (Chapter 12)

(Chapter 12)

It was difficult for Clarisse Faeloria to close her eyes every time she tried to sleep, thinking about what happened with Lorcan Frostborne, and she still couldn't believe what had occurred back then.

If Lorcan had bad intentions, then his behavior was very unsettling. Everything her mother had said about the first night of marriage also echoed in her mind. Clarisse shook her head, not wanting any of it to come true.

Clarisse didn't want her future husband, Lorcan Frostborne, to turn into someone irresponsible.

"What will happen to me if he's like that? If he's not serious, what will happen to my future? I don't want to be a victim of his desires!"

She felt she wouldn't be able to handle it if their marriage only served Lorcan's personal interests.

Clarisse was confused by all the thoughts swirling in her mind. Though she had been sure at the beginning, could she handle it if Lorcan approached her in a way that made her uncomfortable?

Clarisse didn't want to rush into this, even though they were surely going to marry soon.

That morning, Clarisse was still sleepy, and a servant came in to ask if she was ready to prepare for breakfast. With Clarisse's permission, the servants entered her room and helped her get ready.

"You seem to have had little sleep, Lady."

"I couldn't sleep last night, I stayed awake for quite a while, so this is the result... Does it look bad?"

"Yes... we will do our best to make sure you don't look tired."

"Well, do your best. I would appreciate it if you and the others could help."

At breakfast, it was certain that Lorcan would be at the dining table. When Clarisse thought about it, she felt nervous, unsure of what to do next.

She tried to forget what had happened the previous day. When the time came to gather in the dining room, Lorcan was already seated comfortably at the table with Clarisse's parents.

With his usual gaze and smile, Lorcan greeted Clarisse, who was startled in an instant. Clarisse quickly tried to change her surprised expression, not wanting her parents to know that something was wrong.

As their gazes met across the table, Clarisse tried her best not to seem tense and cleverly acted as though the incident the night before had never happened.

Clarisse saw that her parents' behavior was normal as well. She was certain they didn't know what had happened to her, and she tried her best to appear as normal as possible.

Lorcan's smile was so friendly, as if nothing had happened, and Clarisse felt frustrated seeing it. She wanted to scold him, but only in her imagination did she actually do so.

Clarisse tried to be pleasant and accompany Lorcan as usual, but she couldn't hide her worry when Lorcan approached and shook her hand.

"I hope we can meet again soon. I'll drop by again, Lady Faeloria."

"I hope that happens soon."

"Until then, farewell," Clarisse replied kindly.

Clarisse remained standing in the same spot, watching the carriage grow further away. She thought, Is it better for me to run away? Clarisse found it difficult to stay outside without any preparation, and that made her hesitate once again. Lorcan would bring trouble to the Faeloria family in the future.

Should I give up? Clarisse muttered, hoping there would be another way if everything she feared turned out to be true.
