Chapter 40 - Chapter 40: The Confrontation

Aria's eyes locked onto Eluned's, and she could feel the tension between them. She knew that she had to confront Eluned, to find out why she was working against them.

"Eluned, we need to talk," Aria said, her voice firm.

Eluned's smile faltered for a moment, but then she regained her composure. "Of course, Aria," she said. "I've been expecting you."

Aria's eyes narrowed. "Expecting me?" she repeated. "What do you mean?"

Eluned shrugged. "I knew you would eventually figure out that I was working against you," she said. "But I have to admit, I'm impressed. You're more clever than I thought you would be."

Aria's anger flared, but she kept her cool. "Why are you working against us?" she asked, her voice firm.

Eluned's expression turned cold. "I'm working for the king," she said. "And I'll do whatever it takes to make sure that he succeeds."

Aria's eyes widened in shock. "You're working for the king?" she repeated. "But why?"

Eluned's smile returned, and it was cold and calculating. "Because I have something to gain," she said. "And I'll do whatever it takes to get it."

Aria's mind was racing. She knew that she had to stop Eluned, but she didn't know how.

As she looked at Eluned, she saw something in her eyes that made her blood run cold. It was a glint of madness, a spark of obsession.

And in that moment, Aria knew that she was in grave danger. Eluned was not just working for the king, she was driven by a madness that would stop at nothing.

Aria's instincts kicked in, and she knew that she had to get away from Eluned as fast as she could. She turned to Lyrien, and saw that he was already moving, his eyes fixed on Eluned.

"Let's get out of here," he said, his voice low and urgent.

Aria nodded, and together they turned to run. But as they did, Eluned's laughter echoed through the air, a cold and mirthless sound.

"You can't escape me," she said, her voice dripping with malice. "I'll always find you."

And with that, Aria and Lyrien fled, pursued by the madness that drove Eluned.
