August felt his chest tighten. His back suddenly drenched in sweat, and he could feel his heart beating, faster, harder.
He stood there, frozen. Without moving a single muscle, still staring at his reflection that was wearing a creepy smile.
What the fuck is going on? Were the stories about creatures living in the reflections really real?
He stood there staring at his reflection, yet, nothing happened. If his reflection really was some strange creature, it wasn't as dangerous as he had thought. It just stood there, smiling, while following every movement August made.
August slowly took a step back.
It seems like my attempt failed. Maybe the one I met was one that was good? August wondered in silence.
He stood there for a second, silently contemplating whether to try again, or if he should just find another way.
Aah, to hell with it, I´ll just try again. If nothing happens, that just means not even those reflections, that kills everyone, cares enough about me to kill me.
Taking a step forward again, August looked straight at his reflection- This time he didn't hesitate.
His eyes quickly found the place where his reflection should have been- Yes, should have been.
There was no reflection in the water, just the dark water, that looked like it could swallow the whole city.
He stared deeply into the water, wondering what happened.
Then everything went dark.
There was nothing else- Nothing but darkness.
August was standing, but he wasn't.
He was sitting down, laying down, floating
He was running, walking.
He was happy, he was sad, he was angry, he was jealous, he was scared.
He felt everything, and nothing at the same time.
He was just there.
Existing.
Time felt like it had stopped, but he wasn't sure. There was nothing indicating time here- Just darkness.
Aah, is this how it feels to be dead? August thought to himself.
It really sucks. Where is the kingdom of God that everyone always talked about? Where are my parents, standing with their arms open, waiting for me, so we can finally be together, all three of us.
August didn't know how long he stayed in this state. It felt like he had been there for centuries, but it also felt like it had just been a minute.
Suddenly August caught a small glimpse of light in the corner of his eye, and he hurriedly turned to where it came from.
A distance away a small light was shining- Looking like one of the small dots of light, that clouded the skies at night. August felt like if he just stretched out his hand, he could touch it. Reaching out his hand, he only realized that, this light was like everything else in this darkness. Both close and at the same time an eternity away.
Looking at the little dot of light, August felt like his body slowly regained a bit of feeling. He could slowly but surely, begin controlling his arms and legs, the way he used to.
Realizing that he could move, he tried to walk, but he wasn't really sure, whether he managed to or not. So, he just decided to continue looking at the light- Feeling that, it had something to do with how he suddenly could move again.
Staring intensely at the dot of light, August could see that it had grown. It was somewhat bigger now.
Maybe that is a way out? Well, it´s not like I have many other options, if I want to get out of this shitty place. I have to say, I thought my previous life was shit, but this… This is as shit as shit can be. August thought to himself silently.
As he continued watching the light, August could see it slowly growing bigger and bigger. At a point the light felt like it could light up every corner of the world, however the dark space, stayed the same.
Suddenly he felt something tugging on him.
August quickly looked around himself, but there was nothing but darkness.
Again, he felt a tug, this time harder.
He then felt a force, drawing him slowly, as August suddenly started moving. He was moving towards the light. The light suddenly felt commanding, like it demanded his attention- Like it was slowly, but surely drawing him in, whether he wanted to or not.
The force increased, he was now flying at speeds higher than even the horse -drawn carriages.
The light suddenly felt like it was closer than before. Like it wasn't just some strange distance that could never be covered.
Shit, shit, shit! This shit really is just way to crazy. What the fuck is happening? August thought to himself while flying through the darkness.
His speed had now increased drastically, however his hair stayed completely in place. Still blocking his eyes.
It seems like there´s no air here. August thought to himself as he quickly raced through the darkness.
Growing bigger and bigger, the light now felt blinding, and August felt like he was about to pass out.
Then everything went dark again.
