Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: SAIRA

She stood among the auburn waves that dignified the warm sunset ahead. The sky pelted rainbow scars indicating another soft summer day was coming to an end. A warm mist of July air was causing her kurta to stick towards her back. The heat was immensely merciless and rain was anticipated with the highest of regards. She rejoiced the crashing waves that bathed her feet and danced upon the sparkles of the sea shore.

From afar stood Saira, near an ice cream stand. She was happily gazing towards her best friend. Rejoicing how much the waves and the sea meant to her. How beautiful life felt seeing her smile this way. How mere clusters of sparkling water sparks an indulge of joy in Aasiya's soul, and how she danced along with the rhythm of the sea.

"Begum Sahiba, would you like some ice cream?"

They came here so often that the vendors running stalls began to recognize them, the entire line of Manora beach was like a second home to Saira, her father was a navy captain and owned a luxurious hut that both she and Aasiya had almost spent their entire childhood in. Since her childhood her father would return back with immersive tales regarding the sea, of how the ocean held creatures beyond their wild imaginations and it enhanced a portal to a whole new world that is yet to be explored. Saira, one had drowned badly in the sea when she was 6, a vivid memory, but she lost her liking for foam filled waves and wasn't much intrigued with the world beyond the water. When it was time for a bedtime story that was often filled with sea shanty's and fighting pirates or prisoners from another water body, Saira would instantly pretend to be asleep avoiding her head to be filled with those [ according to her] fantastical tales. However, from beneath the staircase that led to Saira's room, a little girl with soft brown hair would always sit and listen, for the door to Saira's room was always ajar [ she was afraid of the dark and the hallway light allowed her to sleep] "No, thank you Bahiyah! ." Saira replied calmly. "Just waiting for this girl to finish her sea fantasies so we can leave." "You are not found of the beach begum Sahiba?" "I love the beauty of it, but I believe the true nature of it always lies with the albatross."

Just then a pure white bird landed on the sand bed not far from them, its beak dripped in the blooming orange of the sunset

"Indeed begum." the shopkeeper smiles as he and Saira watch the bird

A while later Saira smiled and called to Aasiya afar. "Are we done acting like a fish?" Aasiya laughs and runs towards her, the blue jeans that she wore soaking in sea water as her feet enhanced fast movement in the opposite direction from the waves. "Alas, meri Piyaari Behn, remember this that when the earth rotates, the sea waves dance with it Something as pure as the wave of the sea can never be overcome. Just amongst this flowing water aspects are an aura of prosperity and peace.

"Yes, a body of water is highly interesting."

Saira replies sarcastically while she puts an arm around her sister by blood, ushering her. "let's get you dried up, shall we?"

The sun was shining upon its apex that day, the surroundings had a soft breeze causing the numerous amounts of green bushes surrounding the area to rustle. A horse-riding area could be visualized from afar where the sounds of hooves clattered as children and adults enhanced upon the horses back, performing tricks and turns. The port that could be seen from afar was blurry due to the sea mist. The surroundings had a hint of salt in the air. The decreasing heat was an indication of the end of July and welcoming of august. Aasiya and Saira stopped by their car afar in the sandy dunes. They stood watching the sea from afar and enjoying the taste of orange popsicles they purchased on the way. It was during this time that from afar, an albatross cried. The cry emitted out like a sharp dagger, determining the fate of an unfortunate ship afar. Alas, if only they knew, the citrus flavor of popsicles and salty sea breezes was a soon crash to an element of the grave.

The honking of a car horn disrupted them from their time of enjoyment. They turned and saw the source to be a white helix approaching from afar with black tinted windows. "I thought we informed Akram that I would be picking you up today after university? Aasiya asked Saira giving her a look of uttermost undertone. "Yes, but he might have wanted to make sure if I was safe, he really is so sweet."

"I wasn't going to kidnap you Sair! we have been waltzing around the world since we were kids, why wouldn't you be safe with me?".

Saira held Aasiya's hand and gave her an apologetic yet [let it be] look before scurrying towards the car. The helix doors opened and a man in his 30'S walked out towards her.
