Chapter 12 - Wanted dead or alive

Before Lisa could ask Bane if there was anything she did not tell him that night.

Bane flung her to the ground and used his body to shield her from incoming danger.

They were under attack from the skies, a psychic wind ripped up the ground all around them.

Debris and dust particles swirled all around them making it harder to detect the location of their attacker.

Even though Lisa was too much of a novice to see Bane's protective shield that surrounded them she felt the energy flowing freely from his body.

The attacker sneered, "Bane you take the fun out of attacking you. Hand over the girl and I will depart from your sight."

Bane moved so fast, he called forth a blast of power and aimed it at the chest of the attacker never mind the distance.

Hexed with another potent stamina draining spell the assassin staggered from being unable to dodge or shield himself from the powerful blows.

Then Bane was directly in front of him pummeling the man with his fists that were encircled with a powerful attack smell.

Blow after powerful blow until the assassin staggered, blood blossoming on his stomach probably regretting the day he took on this hit but not about to give up yet.

Several shadows stepped out at once as the assassin tried to distract Bane and put some space between them after aiming with multiple daggers in an offensive attack.

Bane blocked and skirted most of the daggers then threw some powder from his hand that caused the multiple shadows to vanish until there was only one left.

Did he just use her detox powder to vanquish the shadows, the nerve of the man , did he forget she still needed that medicine?

Bane shouted, "Reveal yourself bloodsucker!"

One of the shadows started letting out hacking coughs, "damn it! Not the face Bane, were you trying to blind me."

Bane growled, "You have the nerve to attack me and my wife unprovoked."

"We've got a lot of history together, not to mention we are family. I thought it wouldn't hurt to ask politely but it seems you leave me no choice."

"Fat chance Lucian," snorted Bane. "No family of mine should stoop so low, get lost you blood sucking vermin!"

Aware of his manly charms he noted Lisa watching so Lucian grinned.

Flashing those pearly white elongated canines of his which matched perfectly with that pale skin of the vampire.

Lucian was about five foot ten and had tied his brunette hair in French braid under the cape to give the illusion that his auburn hair was very short.

He appeared to be just a few inches shorter than Bane and she could see the family resemblance in the face.

Lucian had the same high cheekbones as Bane and Tristan, he had the type of dreamy boyish features that girls crushed on in high school.

"Wait did I hear right?" queried Lucian, "Please don't say you married the girl?"

"I did marry Lisa, what is it to you?"

Lucian spat out blood.

Apparently that blow from Bane if he had used his real strength could have done serious damage to his body, either maimed or killed him.

From his pocket, Lucian withdrew a white handkerchief and a sheet of paper, the latter he shoved at Bane.

"Look at this," said Lucian while handing a flyer to Bane.

Lisa's curiosity won out; she couldn't resist peeking over Bane's shoulder and saw her last model headshot taken by Champion Talent Agency on a wanted dead or alive poster.

Someone had gone out of their way to place a bounty of $500,000 etheros on her head.

Before she could stop herself Lisa blurted out, "what's etheros?"

Without blinking Lucian answered, "it's currency we use in the etherworld it is worth ten times the amount of the US dollar."

Bane gave Lucian a disapproving look as if he wasn't ready for Lisa to hear about the etherworld and gave him a look to zip it.

"Bane it has to be the Killer! I still don't know who it is or why he wanted my namesake dead."

What secret could she possibly have for the murderer that he was willing to spend a tidy fortune for Lisa to take it to the grave?

Suddenly she felt chills running down her spine.

Bane took one look at her and checked her temperature, "you need to take the detox medicine before the fever gets worse."

This time around Lisa had no complaints she accepted the package and prepared to go inside alone.

"I'm coming with you."

"I don't need your help to take the medicine."

"Damn that pride of yours! That's what you're worried about, you could have been killed tonight had I not been by your side. Who knows who else is lurking in the shadows to kidnap you."

"But I wasn't Bane and now I don't feel so good, I'd be poor company for the remainder of the night."

"Is everything a bloody joke to you Lisa?"

"Look, Bane. I never asked for any of this, fate decided this miserable destiny for me. If it's anyone who should be upset it's the person with the bounty on their head, that's me."

Bane glowered at her with eyes that were dark red and scary looking but after all she had been through his look didn't bother her too much.

"You can stay in your room tonight after I search and ward it, come tomorrow I'm taking you home."

By now Lisa was too irritated to argue with him, she just wanted to shower and rest.

"What about my money?" asked Lucian.

"Get lost," ordered Bane.

Lucian did exactly that, dissipating into the wind from which he came, if Lisa blinked she would have missed Lucian's departure.

"I promise you, I'm just going to shower, take the medicine and go straight to bed and you can tell the others at work whatever you want. I'm beyond caring right now."

Bane sighed, "you make it seem like I'm being harsh on you."

"I know you mean well."

"Are you sure there isn't any way I can get you to spend the night in my bed again.

She said quietly. "That's not a good idea in my book, Bane."

"I have a guest room where you can stay. So just get your belongings and sleep in there tonight. It doesn't need to go further than that, just agree for my peace of mind."

He was so close, Lisa stared at his gorgeous face, his body beckoned to her and it was not just his good looks but his otherworldly charm.

The strength and power that radiated from within him silently compelled her.

To her it was more than magnetism and attraction between them, the chemistry, his intelligence, his decisive nature all of these things held a dangerous fascination that drew Lisa to him.
