Maximilian "Max" O'Doherty an anthropomorphic rabbit had an uneventful, reclusive life in his small bungalow on the outskirts of a medieval town. His days were spent running his successful business, while weekends were reserved for his most favorite occupation-that of reading. As predictably as the ticking of the clock, every weekend, Max would find his way to the local library, which was a grand stone building that smelled of old parchment and quiet whispers of knowledge.
He found bliss in routine visits to the library, where he spent hours lost in the pages of stories about adventurers and explorers to places far away and unknown. Tales like that indeed inspired him and also instilled a yearning for adventure into his heart-what was lacking in his life.
One day, while exploring the far corners of the library, Max stumbled upon a door marked "Authorized Personnel Only." Instantly, he was curious. What in the world could be so important that it had to be kept out of public view? The Imaginary concepts ran through his mind, and soon enough, the thought of what was behind that door consumed him.
Max's curiosity about the room grew so great that he started to get into the librarians' routine. He had learned that the key to this room was left on the desk by one librarian, a nice but forgetful old rabbit, most of the time. Max seized the moment and came up with a plan. He would have to hide somewhere in the library after hours and wait for everybody to go home.
That evening, Max made his move. He slipped into a secluded corner, behind a towering shelf of dusty tomes, and waited. The hours ticked by, but not once did Max's determination falter. Finally, the last librarian left, and the library was steeped in silence.
With a racing heart, Max sprang out of his hide and approached the desk of the old librarian. Sure enough, there lay the key, guileless alongside some pile of returned books. Max retrieved the key and then ran to the mysterious door. He took a deep breath, put the key into the lock, and turned.
The door creaked open to a dimly lit room with a huge, big table standing in the center and an enormous projected map above the table. That map showed thousands of places like countries, cities, towns, and villages that were unfamiliar and fantastic. Max couldn't help being awestruck. This had to be some sort of weird map. Indeed, it all seemed to encompass worlds he would never have envisioned but somehow worldly enough.
Max looked around the room for a smaller copy of the map that he could take home and study. His eyes fell upon a glass locker, the type used in museums to display ancient artifacts. Inside, carefully preserved, was a scroll-a smaller version of the grand map. Max carefully took it out, not disturbing anything else in the room.
Max knew he had to be out of the library with the scroll without being caught. He had memorized the guards' routines and knew when they went on breaks or changed shifts. Timing his movements perfectly, he slipped out of the unauthorized room, locked the door once more, and returned the key to the librarian's desk. He then made his way to the back exit of the library, using his knowledge of the layout to avoid the guards.
Max managed to slip out of the library undetected and ran home, his mind racing with the possibilities that the map presented. Later that night, he poured over the scroll with a new sense of determination. He realized that a dream of adventure was within reach, but first, he needed to learn how to navigate the map and track down the places it depicted.
Thus, Max started preparing for it. He enrolled in courses and sought out mentors who could teach him the art of reading maps and navigation. As time went by, he mastered this aspect and started getting ready for the lifetime adventure. Little did he know that the map would further take him to some mysterious islands, each with their tales to tell and give the lead for an epic journey beyond his wildest dreams.
