Chereads / Ghostbug: I’m a Glitch in the System / Chapter 6 - The Grinding Starts

Chapter 6 - The Grinding Starts

We traveled back to Mooradoc and then into Tahaloo. Unlike Craigeebun, where we fought Fragons, Tahaloo has more solid ground to walk on, with dense trees covering the landscape. In contrast, Craigeebun was nothing but water, grass, and open wetland.

I preferred to be in this part of this swamp.

"Lucien, I forgot to check your skills back at the tavern. Last I remember, you gained quite a few, but I didn't get a chance to read their descriptions. What do you have?"

Isn't he supposed to know more than I do?

But what do I expect…

"I have a skill called Death's Companion. It was the one that brought me back to life."

Deus's excitement was evident—he was giddy.

"Death's Companion?" he whispered to himself. "Was that one of the skills he acquired during the appraisal?" he wondered.

He's talking to himself, I guess I don't need to answer.

"That skill sounds good. It'll save me lots of money."

I felt good, seeing Deus was satisfied with what I told him. Was it the first time? I don't even remember.

"By the way, Lucien. We're already here, where's your sword?" Deus asked.

"I don't have it with me. when I die, I guess I dropped it."

This is the turning point, what will I get this time? A punch? A Kick? I wonder…

"Don't you have an inventory? Are you saying you just dropped it and now it's gone?"

I don't know how else I can phrase it but all I was able to tell him was, "Yes."

I braced myself, prepared for whatever Deus is gonna throw at me.

He started to swipe through the air again, it's the same scenario. I knew what was coming next.

"Alright… I see." Deus said calmly.

I stared at him, wondering which was worse—when he was calm or when he was pissed.

I guess both.

Then, a sword appeared in his hand. The worst experience I've had so far was with a sword… Next, he's going to cast his spell, right?

Anticipating what was coming, I asked Deus, "Which hand is it gonna be?"

Deus looked at me as if I had asked something ridiculous, then said, "Your dominant hand, of course."

I lifted my right hand to the side, bracing myself for the punishment I deserved.

Then Deus tossed the sword directly at me, and I caught it midair.

"It seemed that whatever you obtained or picked up goes directly into my inventory."

He didn't cut my hand…

"We're going back in. Make sure you're prepared, and don't rely too much on that skill of yours."

Deus advised. It was new—he wasn't frustrated or furious.

So I moved on, gripping the sword's hilt as I prepared myself.

Not long after entering Tahaloo, we returned to the spot where we had fallen.

The Galegi weren't aggressive, but most players avoided them—probably because they were harder to take on compared to the slow-moving Gataur, a horned salamander with four legs, two extra limbs, and a heavily scaled body.

What made it even harder was that Galegi was always a mob in packs of eight to ten, swarming anyone who harmed one of them.

"Sword Slash, Sable!"

My train of thought was interrupted by Deus casting a skill.

He unleashed a horizontal slash at an unsuspecting Galegi.

The screeching sound it made before it fell stunned.

This must be how I was killed the last time.

"Deus! The remaining beasts have shifted into their battle position!"

I alerted Deus.

"I got this, keep watch of your back, I'm missing one of them. It must have creeped behind us."

Deus' warning made me aware of the Galegi's long, slender bodies as they danced across the field, nearly unnoticed.

With just a flick of their tail, they slice through the air.

But Deus moved fluidly, dashing and dodging their simultaneous attacks.

I was too focused watching Deus fight and didn't even realize one was flying toward me.

Instinctively, I raised my sword attempting to defend myself from the incoming beast.

*SWOSHHH!

The strong current of air breezed through me.

"Lucien! He changed direction to your left!"

I gazed to my left. This monster opened its fins and glided in the air to change its direction.

I ran after it, it might have changed direction mid air but it was a maneuver to dodge and it's landing was uncontrolled.

I raised my sword high while charging at the beast, but before I even reached it, I felt strong with current behind me and all went black.

[You have died, activating skill Death's Companion]

[Cooldown: 60 minutes]

I've died again…

When I regained my consciousness, I saw a glimpse of Deus falling again against the Galegis.

Then I went to this empty space.

He's also died.

He must have been distracted by me again. I'm such a drag…

After some time, Deus returned.

I must apologize, but what good will it do?

"Hey, Lucien."

"Guess we can't take those monsters yet! HAHAHAHA!"

Deus started laughing, it was the complete opposite of what I imagined.

He was laughing.

Can I also laugh?

"Anyway, I think I'll send you to an inhabitant quest for now."

I nodded.

His laughing stopped…

"Since we're already here, let's get to the Tavern and see their bulletin."

I followed him.

Did he always return to this town each time he died?

We walked towards the tavern, everything seemed okay.

Is it okay for me to believe everything is okay?

We arrived at the tavern and went directly to the posted inhabitant's quest bulletin.

"There's a lot of quests you can take here. It would also yield me some resources."

Deus holding his chin thinking.

"Collecting quests is cheap, but I have no plans on getting lands anyway. It's quite a complicated process. Let's have you, do a hunting quest."

"It will cost more $ but it will get me a little Auru. I wonder where I can use this currency."

"Hunt Plain Wolves at Developers Plains."

"It's not part of this world,"

"I guess this is where developers profit from this game."

He's talking to himself again.

I guess he's gonna send me somewhere.

"I think you'll be transferred to some place once I accept this quest."

He told me while holding a piece of paper he took off the board.

"I understand, Deus."

"It says there's a possibility of death. You have no right to die, got it?"

"Got it, Deus."

"You're level 23, Plain wolves are 30, you should be fine."

I nodded at him.

The piece of paper in his hands disappeared, the world I was in suddenly changed.

In front of me was a pack of wolves growling.

[Clear Monsters To Exit The Realm]

A female voice announced.
