It was past midnight when Franco returned to his apartment. The city was deep in silence, but his mind was in a whirlpool of endless questions. Marco's words were still circling in his head, like a key to a deep secret he was hiding. "Sometimes, people don't have many choices, do they?" The hint was like a bolt from the blue in his mind. What did Marco mean by those words? And why did Franco feel there was something unusual about the way he said them?
Franco sat on the couch in his small apartment, and opened the investigation file in front of him once again. He studied the details of the cases he had handled over the past weeks, hoping they would reveal something mysterious to him. In the middle of his examination, his eyes fell on a report he hadn't noticed before. It contained the names of people who had been arrested on serious charges, but there was a strange gap in the information about one of them. A person named "Luca Ferri," a name he had only come across in the side headlines of newspapers.
What caught his attention was the association of this name with the group that had recently been behind major crimes in the city. Why hadn't this person been seriously investigated? Why was that information missing?
Without hesitation, Franco decided to go to a place where he could get more information. He had to check for himself, to make sure what he suspected was true.
Early in the morning, Franco headed to the headquarters where he could possibly find answers. It was a huge building located in one of the old city neighborhoods, full of shadows and dim lights. Everything about this place was suspicious, as if darkness itself enveloped it. But he was prepared. He had nothing left to lose.
When he reached the main door, the security guard stopped him. The man was middle-aged, with a stern face. "You can't enter here without permission," he said in a dry voice.
But Franco had prepared himself for this moment. "I need to speak to the head of investigations. There is a very important case that needs attention."
The guard looked at him for a long moment before sighing. "Wait here. I'll call him."
Time seemed to pass slowly. As Franco waited, he wondered what he might discover inside this place. Would he find answers to his questions? Or would he enter an even bigger maze than the one he had fallen into before?
Only a few moments passed before a large man appeared, with harsh features and sharp eyes. "You're Franco, right?" the man said in a threatening tone.
"Yes, I need some questions answered," Franco replied in a steady tone.
The man, Franco, entered a small room in the back, filled with files and documents that seemed to be filled with secrecy. There was no time for evasion now.
"You're asking about Luca Ferri, right?" the man said, placing a file on the table in front of him.
Franco nodded, and said in a low voice, "Yes, what was this person's role in the recent crimes? And why was his information hidden?"
The man smiled slightly, then said calmly, "You won't find what you're looking for here, Franco. Luca Ferri is not just an ordinary criminal. He's someone you know well...more than you can imagine." These words came as a new shock. Franco felt a flutter in his heart. Was Luca Ferri connected to the events that were chasing him? And was he himself the one behind all of this?
