Chapter 5 - chapter 5: Old Wounds

---

📍 Location: Safehouse, Mainland Lagos

🕒 Time: 8:15 AM

(The early morning sun streamed through the cracked blinds. Ghost sat at the dining table, staring at a mug of coffee that had long gone cold. Viper leaned against the wall, cleaning her weapons, while Kingsley worked at his laptop.)

Kingsley: "I reached out to a contact. Samantha Kane's been laying low since your... falling out. But I traced her to a safehouse in Victoria Island. She's off the grid, but if anyone knows how to crack open the Society's operations, it's her."

Viper: (noticing Ghost's silence) "You're not saying much. What's the deal with her?"

Ghost: (after a long pause) "Samantha and I were partners in Counterintel. She was brilliant, ruthless... and loyal—until she wasn't. She betrayed me on a mission, left me to die. If she's involved, this could go sideways fast."

Viper: "So she's dangerous. Good. Makes it more fun."

Kingsley: "Fun or not, we don't have a choice. The Society's plans in Project Blackfire are massive, and we need leverage. Samantha has dirt on them—we just have to convince her to share it."

(Ghost finally stood, his expression unreadable.)

Ghost: "Let's go find her."

📍 Location: Victoria Island, Abandoned High-Rise

🕐 Time: 1:37 PM

(The team approached the decrepit building, its windows shattered and its walls covered in graffiti. Ghost led the way, his hand resting on his holstered pistol. They climbed the stairs to the 10th floor, where a single door stood slightly ajar.)

Viper: (whispering) "Trap?"

Ghost: "Probably."

(He pushed the door open cautiously. Inside, the room was sparsely furnished—a table, two chairs, and a laptop. A woman stood by the window, her back to them. She was tall, with sharp features and a cold demeanor. She turned as they entered, her eyes locking onto Ghost's.)

Samantha: "Well, well. Look who decided to visit. I thought you'd be dead by now."

Ghost: (coldly) "You tried. Didn't work."

Samantha: (smirking) "Guess I'll have to try harder next time."

(Viper stepped forward, her knife glinting in the light.)

Viper: "Cut the reunion crap. We're here for information."

(Samantha raised an eyebrow, clearly unimpressed.)

Samantha: "And who's this? Your new sidekick?"

Ghost: "She's my partner. And she doesn't miss."

Samantha: (chuckling) "Alright, tough guy. What do you want?"

(Ghost tossed the Project Blackfire file onto the table. Samantha's smirk faded as she glanced through it.)

Ghost: "We know the Society is planning something big. We need details—locations, key players, anything."

Samantha: "And you think I'll just hand that over? What's in it for me?"

Viper: (threateningly) "How about we let you keep breathing?"

Samantha: (ignoring her) "You don't get it, do you? The Society's not just some gang. They've got resources, connections, and soldiers everywhere. Going against them is suicide."

Ghost: "We're already in it. Either you help us, or we'll take you down with them."

(Samantha studied him for a moment, then sighed.)

Samantha: "Fine. But if I do this, we're doing it my way. And you owe me."

Ghost: "Not a chance. You're just a source. Nothing more."

Samantha: (grinning) "Still as charming as ever."

📍 Location: Secure Facility, Ajah

🕒 Time: 10:45 PM

(Samantha led the team to an underground bunker. The air was damp, and the walls were lined with crates of weapons and tech. She stopped in front of a large, encrypted terminal.)

Samantha: "This is the Society's main data hub for Lagos. They store shipment manifests, personnel files, and even financial records here. If we can hack into it, we'll have everything you need."

Kingsley: (stepping forward) "That's my department."

(He pulled out his portable rig and got to work. The screen lit up with lines of code as he bypassed the security protocols.)

Kingsley: "This'll take a minute. Keep an eye out."

(Viper and Ghost took positions by the entrance, their weapons drawn. Samantha leaned against a crate, watching them with amusement.)

Samantha: "You've got quite the crew, Ghost. They almost make up for your lack of personality."

Ghost: "Keep talking, and I'll remind you why you don't cross me."

(Samantha opened her mouth to reply, but a sudden noise cut her off. The sound of footsteps echoed down the hallway.)

Viper: "We've got company."

(Samantha grabbed a rifle from one of the crates and took position. Moments later, a squad of heavily armed operatives burst into the room, their weapons trained on the team.)

Operative Leader: "Drop your weapons! Now!"

Ghost: (calmly) "Not happening."

(A tense standoff ensued. Then, with a sudden movement, Ghost fired the first shot. Chaos erupted as bullets flew in every direction.)

💥 (The team fought with precision and ferocity. Samantha proved her worth, taking down multiple operatives with brutal efficiency. Kingsley worked frantically at the terminal, sweat dripping down his face.)

Kingsley: "Almost there!"

Ghost: (reloading) "Hurry up!"

(The fight intensified as more operatives poured in. Viper used her agility to outmaneuver them, while Ghost held the line. Samantha covered Kingsley, her movements sharp and calculated.)

Kingsley: "Got it! Let's move!"

(He pulled a hard drive from the terminal and joined the others. They fought their way out of the bunker, escaping into the night just as reinforcements arrived.)

📍 Location: Safehouse, Mainland Lagos

🕛 Time: 1:32 AM

(The team regrouped at the safehouse, exhausted but victorious. Kingsley plugged the hard drive into his laptop, bringing up a wealth of information.)

Kingsley: "This... this is everything. Locations of their labs, names of key operatives, even blueprints for their next operation."

Viper: "So, what's the plan?"

Ghost: (glancing at Samantha) "We hit them hard. Take out their leadership, destroy their labs, and make sure Project Blackfire never sees the light of day."

Samantha: (smirking) "Sounds like fun. Count me in."

Ghost: (firmly) "This doesn't mean I trust you."

Samantha: "Good. Trust gets people killed."

(The room fell silent as the team prepared for their next move. Outside, the city buzzed with life, unaware of the storm about to hit.)
