Chapter 3 - Beginning (3)

Drake waved his hand: "I don't mind teaming up with anyone, but if we enter the 'The Glutton' Dungeon a third time, I'll be going too."

No one objected to his words because aside from Mr. Adonis, who could persuade him a little, no one could sway him.

At that moment, Mr. Adonis looked suspiciously at Frank: "Frank, what's wrong? You're unusually quiet today."

Suddenly being called out, Frank was a little startled. He looked at Adonis, hesitating for a moment. However, thinking about what he had heard, along with the words of that strange young man, he finally decided to tell everyone the whole story.

"Priest Silvanus? Never heard of him..." Mr. Adonis muttered.

Frank nodded: "Yes, at first I thought he was just a madman, but everything turned out to be true. Team 4 has fallen..."

"Ha, why overthink it? He probably just got lucky with his guess! From the start, I already felt there was no hope for Team 4!" Drake scoffed, not agreeing with Frank's reasoning.

Silas suddenly said, "We might as well give it a try. There's nothing to lose."

The others exchanged looks, agreeing that it made sense. The following day, Silvanus was invited by Frank and Cocona to the headquarters of The Association of Espers for "tea."

Cocona was also quite surprised by Silvanus. She didn't expect Frank's words to be accurate. Silvanus did appear out of nowhere when they arrived.

As Silvanus entered the room, he quickly began observing everyone. The others looked at him with skepticism. A group of people in white cloaks with a scale emblem on their left chest regarded him with strange looks—half suspicious, half manic—like they had discovered a rare treasure. Their gaze made Silvanus feel goosebumps.

If he remembered correctly, these people were likely from the Gabriel Angel cult. They should have been peaceful and quiet, but their behavior seemed odd.

As Silvanus was questioning this, a sound like wind cutting through the air suddenly rang out. He felt a flash of brightness before his eyes, the wind blowing past him. A sharp blade came within mere centimeters of his eye, and the hood of his cloak was blown back, revealing his forehead and eyes.

Silvanus: "!!!"

"Haha, very good, very good! You didn't flinch even when facing my blade!"

Drake retracted his sword, happily patting Silvanus on the back with such force that Silvanus felt as if his shoulder might break.

What the hell is this? Is this the absolute madman? Who pulls a sword on someone they just met?

Silvanus might have screamed if not for his years of acting experience and facial control! The only thing keeping him standing there was his will to survive!

He stood still, simply staring at Drake.

This Priest seemed entirely calm for the others, even in the face of Drake's blade. His green eyes, like gemstones, remained emotionless, as if nothing could affect him. To him, it seemed like there was no hierarchy between anything in the world.

This person might be hiding something mysterious, a few people thought to themselves.

Silvanus continued hearing the sound of +1 +1 +1 in his ears.

[But the system, could you turn off the notification sound? Next time, if the score exceeds 50, please notify me.]

As soon as he finished speaking, the notification sound vanished. Alright, now nothing could stop him from acting cool!

Silvanus removed his mask, and only then did the people in the room see his face clearly. It was indeed the kind of face made for the big screen. In his past life, Silvanus's popularity was entirely justified.

His green eyes were especially special, like the rarest gemstone, making people want to hide him away and gaze at him in admiration.

"Hey, Priest, did you have eye surgery?" Drake propped his feet on the chair and raised an eyebrow at Silvanus.

Silvanus knew he was probably trying to pick a fight.

The others didn't intervene with Drake. Perhaps they were afraid of him, but more likely, they were using him to test Silvanus.

Silvanus stood, reciting his prepared script: "This world will reach its end. Only the gods can save humanity. The gods who return from chaos will be the only key. Summon them, worship them, and they will lead humanity to the end."

Drake suddenly challenged: "If the gods are that powerful, why didn't they show up from the start and let humanity suffer?"

"The gods have always been locked away in the eternal realm. Only now, as the boundary between all things weakens, can they return," Silvanus answered calmly.

"Gods locked away? Doesn't sound trustworthy at all," Drake muttered.

Silvanus narrowed his eyes at Drake, his gaze turning dangerous. Drake met his gaze, his expression growing serious.

"Alright, we're all on the same side, so there's no need to clash like this. Drake, apologize to Priest Silvanus!" Frank suddenly jumped in to mediate, grinning like a fox.

Drake snorted coldly but didn't say anything while Silvanus muttered, "The gods will forgive all sins..."

Of course, he was pretending to be threatening; he knew he couldn't do anything to Drake. He was just a paper tiger. The aura was essential; someone else would deal with the rest.

At that moment, Silas suddenly spoke: "So, Priest Silvanus, how can we summon the gods?"

"Who is the team leader for this Dungeon expedition?" Silvanus didn't answer directly but asked in return.

Frank quickly replied: "It's him, Drake."

Silvanus followed Frank's gesture and saw the rude, brutish man. Alright, he felt that the time for revenge had come.

Silvanus showed no emotion as he stepped forward, taking out a black gem and slowly saying, "Hold this in your hand, and the gods will appear when you truly need them."

Drake took the gem from Silvanus's hand. No matter what, he still found Silvanus highly suspicious.

At that moment, Silvanus suddenly added, "Which god will be summoned depends on your luck. Some gods are mighty, but others are weak. Whether they help you also depends on them. Good luck, everyone."

With that, Silvanus turned and left without greeting anyone.

A while later, a subordinate rushed into the meeting room: "He disappeared in an alley near the headquarters, and we couldn't find any trace of him!"

"A suspicious one," Drake casually slipped the gem into his jacket pocket, continuing, "I'm sure we won't summon anything, or maybe we'll summon some trash."

Silas frowned: "You should be more careful with your words, Drake. The fact that Silvanus could escape our surveillance and disappear so mysteriously makes him someone we should watch out for. Don't be so arrogant."

Drake scoffed: "Only weaklings hold onto thoughts like that. You're not weak, but you still cling to such foolish ideas, Silas."

Silas didn't respond, and Cocona, beside them, mocked, "Silvanus said it himself. Everything depends on luck. If you summon trash, you're unlucky, Drake."

Drake glared at Cocona, his gaze cold as if he could leap up and strike her at any moment.

Cocona didn't seem to care, ready to take him on if needed. After all, their mutual dislike wasn't a secret.

"Alright, this mission is on you, Drake. Be careful, we're all counting on you, and humanity's fate rests in your hands," Mr. Adonis suddenly spoke.

Drake furrowed his brow, serious expression: "I've already said it. Failure doesn't exist in my dictionary."

And so, everything was settled. Meanwhile, the countdown to the opening of the 'The Glutton' Dungeon stood at [00:58:05].
