Chapter 8 - Chapter 7: The Mysterious Figure

A few moments ago

"That was anticlimactic…" The old man who had earlier commented on Rin sighed, a look of disappointment etched on his wrinkled face. He had expected more drama.

But seeing the glares he was getting from the woman sitting across from him, he immediately shut up.

"Wasn't that a bit too much? I mean how she handled the guy…" a young man at another table said, frowning. His words were aimed at the person sitting at the same table, with him. "Anyone who can dine at this place is not simple, is she not worried that she might face repercussions from the owner of this place or that man whom they just threw out?"

"That is true but you are underestimating the owner of Fugetsu." His companion, a sharply dressed man, responded coolly. His eagle like eyes swept across the room, taking in every detail they saw. "That woman is the daughter of the owner and her will is the will of her father. As for the owner… that man has deeper ties than you can imagine."

"Otherwise, how do you think they lasted this long in this country?" The man added, taking a sip of the refreshing sake before placing the short cup on the table. "The only people he could truly offend are the political elites or the elites."

As he added the last line, his voice grew quieter than before, his eyes narrowed suddenly.

The young man nodded with a look of understanding "That make—"

BOOM!

But, he never finished his sentence.

A deafening explosion ripped through the restaurant. The painted wooden wall behind them, the one adorned with delicate sakura blossoms shattered into countless splinters even smaller than the sakura leaves.

These deadly splinters sliced through their flesh, embedding deep in their eyes, faces, and other vital parts of the body. The explosion grew and the two of them did not even get the time to scream.

Their bodies were torn apart, limbs scattering like ragdolls in chaos. Such a scene was spread all around the right side of the room. All the tables, furniture, people, everything was blown away.

Screams filled the air.

"Kyaaa!"

"Ahhh….."

The once heaven-on-earth-like restaurant became a living hell for the people. Flames erupted, they hungrily reached to swallow anything they could get to become stronger and bigger.

Tables and chairs flew in the air, and bits and pieces of flesh, limbs, and organs could be seen flying across the room.

Some of the survivors were laid on the ground in a daze, severely injured. They struggled to breathe let alone move, their mind went into shock, enabling them to realize whether they were sitting standing, or lying on the corpses of their loved ones.

High up in the air, a pair of eyes could see everything that was happening in the hall but they had no one to show it to. Severed from the body, a pair of bloody eyes flew across the room. They had been blown away from someone's head, even the optical nerves were still attached to the back of the gory organ.

"Arghh!"

BOOOM!

Before they could even get a hold of themselves, another explosion went off, this time from the left side. The whole foundation of the restaurant was Rocked.

Those who miraculously survived the previous explosion found themselves bathing in fire. Their cries of pain lasted no longer than a few seconds before the raging inferno consumed them whole.

Even the pair of eyeballs, still mid-air, were swallowed by the flames. Everything happened so fast but in that moment even one second felt like an eternity. The only place that was left untouched by the flames was the kitchen–

Boom!

Until the gas line below the restaurant also exploded.

The third and final explosion consumed most of the parts of the restaurant!

Fugetsu, one of the top-ranked restaurants, was left with nothing but burning ashes of its former self.

The Charred walls, blackened corpses, dreams, lives, everything was obliterated. The only clear sound left lingering in the air was the flickering of the flames that devoured the remains of the restaurant like a beast still hungry for destruction.

With the roof blown apart, the clear moon in the sky shone brightly water of the pond with fishes flapping around to save their lives but nothing could stop the light from their eyes from fading.

Fugetsu was built in a desolate area, far away from the reach of the cities. It was surrounded by tall trees, grassland a little vegetation that flames threatened to consume with each passing moment.

Suddenly a series of slow yet firm steps could be heard amidst the flickering of flames. The wall of flames that soared towards the heavens was split in the middle, creating a passage.

A figure enshrouded In darkness stepped through the gaps of the flame wall. As the darkness receded, the figure became clearer.
