Life is unfair, nobody ever gets what they want. No matter how much I try to escape my past, it just catches up to me one way or another. It seems that I am just that unlucky.Â
I find myself here in Venice in the Renata's organized crime family house on my knees in front of the boss not knowing why I am here.Â
" Vincent you look just like your father. That curly brown hair, the chiseled jaw, the hazel green eyes, shit if you were not in this mess you could have even been a model." I knew that voice indistinctly it was Serena Renata.Â
She was the boss of the Renata crime family known for her cunning and ruthless attitude 'Whatever is not of use is garbage and must be disposed of'.Â
"What do you want from me Renata I did not do anything to garner your attention, let me go" I said trying to think of a way to get a handle on the situation.Â
" You owe me Vincent, I have waited long enough for you to pay for your families debt, and it was about time I came to collect it" she spoke with authority and that cold tone of hers.Â
I knew exactly of what she was talking about. She was referencing that debt my bastard of a father left behind. My mother abandoned us when I was young due to his drinking and gambling problems, and the only remnant I have left of him is that stupid fucking debt. Why do I even care what happens to me? It's not like I have anyone at home waiting for me. I am just another tragic case of wrong place wrong time.Â
" Fuck you Serena, that was my father's debt not mine. I had nothing to do nor do I want anything to do with anything that man did. You gave him all that money and all he did was gamble and drink himself to death " My tone changed from frightened to serious when I uttered those words.Â
I had nothing to fear, what could be worse than death, then suddenly her henchmen finally decided to remove the blindfold off of me, and I was stunned to see Renata in person for the first time.
Her silky long white hair that cascades down to her back like liquid silver, a contrast to her dark brown eyes that could see everything. Her high cheekbones, full lips painted in a deep crimson and a gaze that froze you. She stood at about 5'6 without her heels on, dressed in a tailored black suit.Â
Surrounded by her henchmen she kneeled down to my level, and looked dead in my eyes, " His debt is just as much yours now as it was his then." spoken with no emotion behind her words I could feel every single one her words pierce through me as if saying that there is no escaping her reach.Â
" Fuck that, and fuck you just kill me and get on with it already I have no money."Â
Serena laughed, I could not believe my eyes. The cold and calculated Serena was laughing, like actual human laughter.Â
She asked one of her guards " What do I value most above all else?" Without a second thought the man that looked like a mountain responded " Loyalty ma'am "Â
With her calculated tone " If it is of no use then it is garbage, and you can still be of use. Young and full of energy I will make use of you yet. Death would be a waste of time for you.Â
" What do you mean 'be of use'? " I said while looking into her lifeless eyes.Â
What could this woman possibly want with me I began to wonder. I am of no use. I am merely 18 years old with the only real world experience being stealing in order to feed myself.Â
" You will work for me. Whatever I need you will be at my beck and call "Â
The evil grin on her face said it all.Â
