Chereads / DxD: The True Loki / Chapter 2 - A Trickster's Birth

Chapter 2 - A Trickster's Birth

*Location: Jotunheim, Frost Giants Palace*

*Year: 100 BCE*

*3rd POV*

Strutting back and forth in front of a gigantic wooden door that was surrounded by an odd blue brick-like wall was a giant. Not just any giant, but a giant amongst giants as he nearly reached the roof of the palace they were in. He wore mostly leather from various beasts alongside a nicely made tunic with some black fur pants to cover his legs. He had two large dragon-like skulls covering his shoulders, alongside a crudly made iron helmet.

This being was Fárbauti whose name meant Dangerous Striker and was the physical manifestation of lightning strikes. A being whose fist could destroy entire towns with a signal quick strike and yet he had a nervous look on his face as the loud cries of his wife came from the other room.

Inside the other room was a beautiful woman, a bit smaller than Fárbauti, and was currently screaming in pain as two female giants surrounded her, one healer and her apprentice. The pregnant woman was Laufey, whose name means full of leaves, and was an Aesir yet still the queen of the Jotun. The name of the healer was Heilogsæl (Heil og sæl) meaning healthy and happy. The small being next to them was essentially a child still, a nameless one who had yet to earn something so grand.

Heilogsæl was an old woman who was covered in a dark green cloak that had leaves all over it and she was currently attending to Laufey who was currently giving birth.

"Good your majesty, keep pushing I can see his head."

Outside Fárbauti could hear this all and his wife continued screaming and slammed his fist on palace walls causing a large crack as it shook. His voice still boomed like thunder as he spoke even though it was a whisper.

"Dammit, I want to know what's happening in there but I cannot interrupt the ritual."

Soon enough the screams died down and the very nervous unnamed apprentice who wore a dark brown cloak exited the room whilst fumbling his hands. They spoke in a soft voice, but the king was still able to pick up what they said.

"My King y-y-your wife has finished and is currently resting, miss Heilogsæl is currently attending to the baby, i-i-its a boy." They then shuffled to the side allowing the king access to the room.

With a happy smile on his face, the king slowly approached the door opening it up making sure to be as quiet as possible. Resting on the truly gigantic bed was Laufey whose eyes were closed and was breathing heavily but still awake. She was drifting off to sleep after spending so much time wide awake. Holding a large newly cleaned baby was Heilogsæl who was rocking the infant in her arms and would smile seeing the king slowly approach with a smile on his face.

He slowly approached with his hands outstretched and Heilogsæl slowly lifted the child up handing it over to Fárbauti who was crying ice with a smile on his face. He held the child gently in his arms and held the now calm infant. The almost man-sized newborn had a small ruffle of blond hair like his mother, he also had Fárbauti strength or at least he would as the king wiggled a finger in front of the infant's face before they grabbed hold of it squeezing hard.

The giant king nearly yelped in pain, well not so much as pain but surprise at the infant's strength. "Amazing, such strength for one just born truly my and Laufey's child." The giant spoke with a soft and quiet voice, well as best as the king could manage.

Slowly releasing the infant's grasp on his finger, the giant just stood there marveling at his child all the while Laufey drifted to sleep finally getting a chance to rest.

The healer bowed seeing that she was no longer needed and slowly left the room, going outside with her apprentice probably leaving the palace. All the while the giant kind took one of the room's bigger chairs and sat down, doing his best to keep quiet. He then looked at his sleeping wife who had a smile on her face, probably glad it was all over and she could rest for a bit without getting up to go to the bathroom.

Next to the bed on a small well small for a giant table, was a hastily written note probably written by Laufey before she passed out. Picking it up Fárbauti began reading it seeing that his wife had picked a name for their newborn, one for a boy, another for a girl. The giant king smiled as he read the name aloud "My little Loki, one day you'll be the best of us." He then leaned back a bit taking the time to relax with his infant as this would be one of the last times the family spent a peaceful moment together.

For now, however, the family was happy, or at least happy as one could be as Laufey slept soundly as her husband Fárbauti sat next to her with the newborn Loki. The baby slept soundly having just been born and having undergone the ritual of Blezun, or the ritual of blessing that would imbue the giant prince with the gift of magic and sight all Giants had some form of.

Yet Loki was born to not just a Giant but an Aesir as well or at least related to them to some degree. While the Giants were naturally gifted with future sight, when a god had it they were far stronger at least in some cases. Loki's gift had already activated gifting the infant sights of a future, of possible futures yet unwritten.

Much to the terror of the child who saw a wolf devour an old one-eyed man all the while a one-armed warrior killed it. He saw a fat yet strong being holding a mighty hammer raising it up to slam down on a truly gigantic snake that let out a deadly mist of venom.

He saw truly wonderful sights and then at the end of it all he saw a being, a humanoid adorned in metal that had the most cruel and maleficent aura the newborn would ever see in its long life. "You shouldn't have done that." The being spoke as Loki's future sight which was just as quickly granted to him was taken away, startling the infant and making them cry once more. Much to the confusion of the infant's mother and father who were quickly woken up by their crying.

They tried to comfort him to the best of their ability but how could they comfort a child who would now spend countless nights up in the future dreading over something they don't remember? Over the gift that was just given stolen by a being truly alien to the world, yet had a brief moment of power over it much to the hatred of a certain red dragon that guarded it.

Yet since their body didn't come over they could do nothing nor did they truly know of what tragedy just transpired.

Well, no one's story or tale starts off good anyway but for a giant that theft of sight was one of the greatest tragedies they could face.
