Joanne had barely finished breakfast when Martha informed her that Alexander had arranged for a black card in her name.
"You'll need something appropriate for the gala," Martha explained, handing Joanne the sleek metal card. "Mr. King expects you to dress the part."
Joanne swallowed her pride. She wasn't used to spending another person's money, but this wasn't about luxury—it was about playing her role.
Fine. If I have to do this, I might as well do it right.
She stepped out of the mansion and was worried on how she will get to the main gate to get a cab. But as she was about to walk a black SUV stopped in front of her and a man in black stepped out to open the door for her.
"Madam good morning," the man said " my name is keleb your bodyguard and that is Ken your driver," he pointed at the driver.
"Mr King asked us to take you were ever you want to go and be with you at all times, this is you car."
Joanne's eye's windend. "What....this is mine."
She was so shocked that she almost tripped while entering the car.
"Where to Mrs King," Ken asked .
"Take me to Indigo design," she said, she worked as an assistant designer.
She got there in 15mins.
She walked in went straight to her table and started work then came her best friend Diana came to her table and scold her for coming to work in just three days after her wedding was called off.
"Joanne why are you here you should be home resting I pland on coming to see you afterwork." Diana said, Pouting.
Joanne chuckled and rubbed Diana's hair,"Don't worry baby am fine I will explain everything to you later and I have something to tell you now go to work."
"OK I will go but I will be back."Daina said and pointed at Joanne before living her table.
The day went by so fast and it was time to go,Joanne packed up and got ready to live.
She waited for Diana but she heard from someone Diana's boyfriend came and took her away.
Joanne sighed; and went out to the parking lot were she found keleb and Ken waited for her.
She got in the car "To the mall." She said.
Soon the car stopped at one of New York's most prestigious malls. The place screamed wealth—designer stores, exclusive boutiques, and customers who looked like they lived in mansions like Alexander's.
She was browsing through evening gowns while keleb was 5 mitters away from her, when a familiar, sharp voice rang out behind her.
"Well, well, look who's here."
Joanne stiffened. That voice.
She turned slowly, her breath hitching as she came face-to-face with Sophia Baker—her half-sister. And standing beside her, looking just as surprised, was Jason Monroe—her ex-fiancé.
Her fingers curled into fists at the sight of them together. Of course.
Sophia smirked, her arms folded as she scanned Joanne up and down. "Shopping for something expensive? Didn't Dad cut you off?"
Joanne lifted her chin, refusing to let Sophia see her discomfort. "Not that it's any of your business."
Jason stepped forward, looking uncomfortable. "Joanne, I—"
"Don't," she cut him off sharply. She didn't need his fake concern.
Sophia's eyes gleamed with amusement. "Oh, come on, sis. You should be thanking me. If I hadn't taken Jason, you wouldn't have found yourself a cripple to marry."
Joanne's blood ran cold. She knows.
Sophia smirked. "Oh, don't look so shocked. News spreads fast. The whole city knows you married Alexander King. Or should I say, the crippled heir of the King family."
Jason's expression shifted. "Wait… Alexander King?" He looked at Joanne in disbelief.
Joanne forced a smirk, ignoring the way her heart pounded. "Why do you look so surprised, Jason? Did you think I'd sit around crying over you forever?"
Sophia laughed. "Marrying a man in a wheelchair out of desperation? That's hardly an upgrade, Joanne."
Joanne clenched her teeth but smiled sweetly. "Funny. You sound jealous."
Sophia's face darkened.
Before she could say another word, Joanne turned and walked away, holding her head high.
