Chapter 2 - A Prophecy And A Lie

 " Are you looking for her ", This time he didn't call her name formerly again. This was actually one of the things Emmanuel had always felt was weird about the couple, he felt they were a bit to former. More like Mr. David was a bit to formal with the way he addressed his wife. He actually referred to his wife as Mrs Amarachi. 

 Mrs was a formal name Nigerians called their married women while the unmarried ones are called Ms. This was precisely the weird thing Jian ling saw in his behaviour. Like, while should one use formal language on their wives. Why not my honey, my sugar, the apple of my eyes or at least stuffs like that as that was the popular way Nigerian men referred to their women as. But then Emmanuel didn't think much about it as he knew there wasn't any problem between. These were people who spent sixty percent's of their time on cuddling each other.

 Emmanuel this time didn't speak and only nodded with a shiny eyes, this was actually his usual behaviour. " She went out, any problem " Mr David said, but then asked a short question just immediately. " I have given out all the cash I have, I need more " Emmanuel said. Mr David on hearing him just nodded his head. Even before Samuel had started talking, he had already dipped his hands inside his the cross bag hanging down from his shoulder. He seemed to be sorting out something. 

 Actually, he had already suspected that it was Emmanuel's reason for coming here. His earlier question was just an act of seeking confirmation. This was because that was the only frequent reason Emmanuel had to come there except when he was stationed to work there instead. Mr David after a short while finally pulled his right hand away from his bag. Within his right hand which he used, a bundle of cash was currently held by it. " That should be 200,000 naira, Count it ", Just like Emmanuel and many other Nigerians, Mr David was also particular about counting any cash handed to you, as if you don't, any mix up or missing money would be on your head. Of course there was an exception which was if there was only a piece.

 " 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, … " Emmanuel immediately started counting, somehow even before Mr David had talked. He didn't need any reminder to count money as this was one of the code which he lived by. He felt the only way he could forget this code was if he became richer than Sir Elon Musk, the current acclaimed richest man in the world. 

 " 190, 191, 192, 193, 194, 195, 196, 197, 198, 199, 200. " Emmanuel was soon done. He carefully placed the money inside his bag and then picked up his POS machine which he had brought with him and previously dropped on top of the large table besides him.

 Just as he turned his back and was about to leave, " Emmanuel ", He stopped on his track. The voice calling his name came from behind. To be more precise, it was Mr David. Emmanuel who had stopped in his track immediately turned back. He was greeted with the sight of Mr David with a stern face. His heartbeat immediately started racing as chills ran through his spines. 

 " Do you know you are a priest " Suddenly a smile was birthed on Mr David face as he asked. ' It wasn't any serious problem ' Emmanuel thought as he let out a breath of fresh air inwardly.

 " No " Emmanuel answered almost immediately. Mr David stared at Emmanuel with a serious look in his face. After a short while, he spoke out again " So no one had told you this before ". Emmanuel also paused for a while but then gave out the same answer " No ".

 On hearing Emmanuel say this again, he just nodded his head dismissively and then, " You can go ", he said. Emmanuel immediately turned his back towards Mr David and walked away hurriedly. He let out a breath of fresh air, this time outwardly. But then even with the sigh, he still didn't feel okay as there was currently a weird disturbing feeling in his heart. It was that feeling that one felt when he or she enters a battle with his or her conscience on whether he did the wrong thing or right thing. Even when wrong, he or she refused to admit, and then the heart begins to punish you. It was also called guilty conscience in Nigeria. The reason for Emmanuel feeling like this was because he had lied. The answer he gave just now to Mr David just now could be considered a lie.

 Or maybe it could also not. The reasoning Emmanuel gave himself was that he truly hadn't been told that. Instead what he had been told were things like " You would be a Prophet of God ", " You would be a great man of God ", " You would be a pastor ", " You would be a great man ". The worrying thing about all this prophecies were that, they kind of entailed different things. A Pastor in Nigeria is a person who lead a church. A prophet is one who is gifted with the gift of vision, Able to see things that normal human eyes couldn't, and then a man of God could actually be any of them. A great man on the other hand could be said to be a man who will become great, but then in which instance is another question entirely.

 Actually some of these clauses had similar meaning. Emmanuel didn't really know whether the different prophecies were the reason for his action or whether it was the other thoughts going through his head.
