Chapter 2 - Chapter : The red sky

The sun hung high in the sky, casting a golden glow over the vast farmland. The rhythmic sound of a sickle slicing through stalks of wheat echoed across the quiet fields as a young man worked tirelessly, his hands rough from years of labor. At just eighteen years old, he had spent most of his life tending to these crops with his younger sister.

A soft breeze carried the scent of freshly harvested wheat as he straightened his back, wiping sweat from his brow. The world was peaceful. Too peaceful.

Then, he heard it.

"Big brother!"

A small voice rang out, full of excitement.

He turned toward the sound, his blue eyes lighting up as he saw an eleven-year-old girl with long black hair running toward him, her bare feet kicking up dust.

"Chizuru!" he called, dropping his sickle as he ran to meet her.

The moment they embraced, the warmth of the sun vanished.

The sky darkened.

Then, it turned red.

Rin's breath hitched. The wheat fields around them withered into blackened husks, the once-fertile land now drenched in blood. The thick, metallic scent clogged his nose, making him gag.

"No… Not again please God…"

He turned his gaze forward.

A figure stood at the edge of the field.

It was human-like, yet unmistakably Kaiju its pale gray skin stretched tight over an unnaturally long frame, its glowing red eyes locked onto him. A cruel smile spread across its twisted face before it turned and ran, disappearing into the crimson mist.

Rin's hands trembled as he looked down at Chizuru and his stomach lurched.

Her small body was drenched in blood, deep crimson staining her dress. Her mouth parted as if trying to speak, but only a weak, gurgling sound came out. Her once-bright blue eyes dullened with pain.

"You promised… You promised to keep me safe, big brother You promised …"

Her voice was barely above a whisper.

Then, her body went limp in his arms.

"Chizuru!" He screamed, his voice raw with despair.

And then

he woke up.

He gasped, sitting up abruptly, his heart hammering against his ribs. His breath came in ragged, uneven gasps as cold sweat drenched his skin.

"It's just a dream again…"

The nightmares never stopped.

The bed creaked as his roommate, Zack, shifted in his bunk, rubbing his eyes. The blond-haired young man groaned, barely awake.

"Let me guess," Zack muttered. "That same dream? The one from that day?"

He didn't answer. He just grunted, running a shaky hand through his damp hair.

Zack sighed, stretching his arms as he climbed out of bed. "Well, if you're done grunting, get dressed. The commander's expecting us in thirty minutes." Without another word, he grabbed his uniform and left the room.

He sat still for a moment, staring at his trembling hands.

"It's been two years… but it still feels like yesterday."

He forced himself to his feet, walking toward the small, dimly lit bathroom. He turned on the cold water, letting it run over his face, washing away the sweat but not the memories.

Once he was dressed in his dark gray combat uniform, reinforced with Kaiju-forged plating, he stepped out of his quarters and into the steel corridors of Fort Aegis. The fortress buzzed with activity soldiers, engineers, and medics moving with purpose.

"My name is Rin Saito, and this is my world a world infected by those useless beasts called Kaiju."

"Two years ago, my sister and I were attacked by a Kaiju at our farm. I survived and managed to gain superhuman abilities , but she…"

His fists clenched.

"Chizuru has been trapped in a living nightmare. For two years, she has been in a state where she can hear and feel everything but cannot move, cannot speak. The doctors say she may never wake up."

"And it's my fault. If I had been stronger, she wouldn't be like this."

The Kaiju first returned eighteen years ago, but they weren't the same mindless giants from the old stories. They evolved. They became smarter.

Now, they could think.

Some were still towering monsters, but the real threat the ones humanity feared most were the smaller, humanoid Kaiju. The ones that could plan, strategize, and hunt us like prey.

"But this time… I won't run. I won't hide. I'm going to wipe them out for good."

The briefing room was filled with soldiers by the time Rin arrived. A large holographic map flickered at the center, displaying red zones areas completely overrun by Kaiju.

Zack was already there, seated at the table. He gave Rin a nod but said nothing.

Then, the doors slid open.

Commander Igarashi stepped in.

Everyone stood at attention immediately. The commander's face was hardened with years of battle, his sharp gaze sweeping over the room.

"As of today, we have confirmation," Igarashi said, his voice firm. " As we all know The Kaiju are changing. The old ones still exist, but new ones smaller, smarter ones have begun appearing in greater numbers. We've lost three entire recon squads in the past month."

A murmur ran through the room.

Rin remained silent. He already knew.

They were adapting. Just like us.

Igarashi's expression darkened. "The time for defense is over. We are taking the fight to them. This war ends now It's time we take back what belongs to us ."

Rin felt something ignite in his chest a quiet, burning fire.

"I don't care what it takes. I don't care how many I have to kill."

His fingers curled around the Kaiju-bone blade strapped to his side, feeling the weight of its power.

"This time, I will wipe them out for Good I'll drive them into extinction.
