Chapter 1 - Prologue: When the Beast Awakened

"We were taught that the monsters would only come if we broke the rules. Stay inside after sunset. Never make a sound after midnight. Never close your eyes for too long. But rules mean nothing when the monsters are always watching."

For thousands of years, humanity believed the age of monsters had ended. The stories of the past of great horrors that once roamed the earth were passed down like myths, bedtime tales meant to frighten disobedient children. The Kaiju, creatures of unimaginable size and power, had been erased from history, their existence reduced to legend.

But legends are often born from truth.

The Kaiju were not simple beasts. They were ancient titans, creatures that walked the earth long before humans took their first breath. They ruled the world with a hunger that knew no bounds. Cities crumbled beneath their feet, entire civilizations wiped from existence in mere days. To them, we were nothing more than food, an endless supply of fresh meat.

At first, humanity tried to fight. The earliest records tell of warriors who stood against them, armed with spears and bows, believing that sheer determination could drive the monsters away. They were wrong. No blade could pierce their thick hides, no fire could burn them, and no wall could keep them out. The greatest warriors of the age were swallowed whole, their kingdoms left in ruins.

When fighting proved impossible, humanity did the only thing left they hid.

They built their homes beneath the earth, deep within caverns where no light could reach. They learned to move only in silence, whispering in the dark, fearing that even the slightest sound might bring death upon them. They abandoned the vast fields and open skies, confining themselves to the depths of the world where the Kaiju could not follow.

Entire generations were born in the dark.

Children grew up never knowing the sun, only the flickering light of torches against stone walls. They were taught from birth to fear the outside world, to never step beyond the safety of the caves. The surface was a graveyard, a wasteland where only death awaited.

But living in fear is not living at all.

As the years passed, humanity grew desperate. Some whispered of rebellion, of reclaiming the world above. Others believed there was no hope, that they were destined to be prisoners in their own world forever. It was only a matter of time before their numbers dwindled, before they faded into extinction like so many species before them.

And then, a miracle happened.

A hunting party, desperate for food, ventured too close to the surface and stumbled upon the impossible a dead Kaiju.

It was massive, a towering beast with flesh split open by something unnatural. Its bones jutted out like spires, its blood soaked into the ground like molten tar. And yet, it was undeniably dead. Something had killed it.

That discovery changed everything.

The hunters, no longer thinking of only survival, saw opportunity. They scavenged what they could, taking its bones, its scales, its blood. They studied the corpse for weeks, searching for weaknesses. And in time, they discovered the truth:

The only thing that could kill a Kaiju was another Kaiju.

The great beasts were not invincible. They could bleed. They could die. And their very bodies held the key to humanity's salvation.

From their bones, the first Kaiju weapons were forged. Blades stronger than any steel, spears that could pierce the flesh of giants, armor crafted from scales that no claw could tear. With each new discovery, humanity's confidence grew. No longer did they cower in the dark. No longer did they whisper in fear.

They took their first steps back into the light.

The war that followed was long and brutal. For every Kaiju that fell, thousands of humans perished. Cities were rebuilt only to be destroyed again. Blood soaked the land, turning rivers black with death. But slowly, relentlessly, humanity fought back.

They became hunters. Warriors clad in armor made from the very creatures that once devoured them. With every battle, they learned. They adapted. And for the first time in history, the Kaiju knew fear.

The monsters that once ruled the world were driven to extinction. One by one, they fell, until at last, none remained. Humanity stood victorious. The world was theirs again.

Or so they believed.

They celebrated their victory. They built cities that touched the sky, monuments to their triumph. They abandoned the old ways, the rules that once kept them alive. No more silence. No more hiding.

But they forgot one simple truth.

Just as humanity can adapt so can they.

For centuries, the Kaiju had learned from their hunters, watching, waiting. Their bodies may have perished, but something far more terrifying had taken root.

And now, after centuries of silence, the world trembles once more.

The Kaiju have returned.

But they are no longer the mindless predators of old. They have changed. They have evolved.

And they are smarter and hungrier
