Chapter 1 - frenzy

As I stood on the sidewalk, the wind whipping my dark hair into a frenzy, I juggled my phone and notebook, trying to keep up with the demanding voice on the other end.

"Lexi, I want everything to be perfect," Mrs. Hillard stressed, her tone firm but laced with a hint of anxiety. "This charity gala is crucial for our organization, and I need it to go off without a hitch."

I nodded, even though she couldn't see me. "I understand, Mrs. Hillard. I'll make sure everything runs smoothly." I tried to tuck the stray strand of hair behind my ear, but the wind had other plans, and it stubbornly fell back across my face.

Mrs. Hillard's charity event was the most high-profile gig my event planning company had landed to date. The guest list was a who's who of the city's elite, and the expectations were sky-high. I was determined to deliver.

"I'll personally oversee the catering, decorations, and entertainment," I assured Mrs. Hillard. "We'll have a detailed timeline and contingency plan in place, so we're prepared for any last-minute issues."

As I spoke, I scribbled notes in my pad, my mind racing with the endless details that needed to be attended to. Mrs. Hillard's voice continued to drill into my ear, but I was confident in my ability to pull off the perfect event.

After what felt like an eternity, Mrs. Hillard finally seemed satisfied with my assurances. "Alright, Lexi. I'm trusting you to make this happen."

I let out a silent sigh of relief as I hung up the phone. The wind was still wreaking havoc on my hair, but I barely noticed. My mind was already racing ahead to the mountain of tasks that lay before me.

The charity gala was just a week away, and I had a lot of work to do.

Over the next few days, I barely slept or ate. My team and I worked tirelessly to transform the upscale hotel's ballroom into a fairytale-like setting. We hung crystal chandeliers, set up a live band, and arranged for a gourmet catering service.

But despite the chaos and pressure, I felt a thrill of excitement. This was what I loved about my job – the rush of adrenaline, the sense of satisfaction when everything came together.

And then, just as things were starting to fall into place, disaster struck.

The catering service called to say they were running behind schedule. The florist delivered the wrong order. And to top it all off, the hotel's event coordinator called in sick, leaving me to deal with the fallout.

I felt my blood pressure rising as I juggled phone calls and tried to troubleshoot the various crises. But I refused to give up.

With the help of my team, we managed to salvage the situation. We scrambled to find a new catering service, rearranged the flowers, and even convinced the hotel's manager to lend a hand.

As the night of the gala approached, I felt a sense of pride and accomplishment. We'd done it – against all odds, we'd pulled off the impossible.

And then, just as I was about to take a well-deserved breath, I saw him – a tall, dark-haired stranger standing across the room, his piercing blue eyes locked onto mine.

My heart skipped a beat as our gazes met. Who was this mysterious stranger, and what was he doing here?

I felt a shiver run down my spine as he began to make his way toward me, a slow smile spreading across his face.

Little did I know, my life was about to change forever.
