-Nicolas
Nick, please let go of my brother!" Lylia begged on her knees at the racing court.
I couldn't help but laugh. She really thinks begging will work?
"You know what happens to people who defy or betray me, right?" I said, my voice cold and amused.
"You don't even love me," she argued in desperation.
"True," I replied nonchalantly, "but I hate sharing." I glanced at her trembling form before smirking. "And about your brother… do I have to?" I teased, dragging out the moment.
"Let's make things more interesting," Alice suggested, tipping her glass before spilling her drink on Lylia's dress.
"Yes… yes! I'll do anything!" Lylia cried out, desperation seeping into her voice.
I looked at her, my smirk widening in satisfaction. This is a lesson to everyone watching.
"She's just a human," Nathan interjected, killing the fun. He was the kindest werewolf I had ever seen—smart and calm—whereas Alice and I were the hotheads.
"Fine, I'll go easy on her," I said, stepping forward.
"Everyone, listen up!" My voice echoed through the court. "I, Nicolas Reed, promise to free both Lylia and her brother, Lancelot… if someone is willing to race me to win their freedom."
I knew nobody in their right mind would dare challenge me. Not only was I the Alpha King's son, but I was also a hybrid—half werewolf, half witch. My father was a werewolf, my mother a witch. That meant I could wield magic just as well as I could shift into a wolf.
Besides, this wasn't just any race. It was an illegal street race—where anything goes, and only one thing matters: winning.
"Can I try?"
A voice came from the back.
I turned, and my smirk faltered for a second.
A boy stepped forward, his black hair tousled, his dark eyes resembling the night sky—so deep, it felt like I could get lost in them. But there was something else. Something strange. I couldn't tell if he was a werewolf or a vampire. His aura wasn't human, yet it was unfamiliar.
I was snapped back to reality when Lylia rushed toward him, her eyes filled with newfound hope. She's looking at him like he's her savior.
I hated it.
I had loved her for a long time, and when I finally had her, she cheated.
I was going to crush the glimmer of hope in her eyes.
The Race Begins
The race started.
I drove my brand-new sports car, while he was on a bike—a Kawasaki or something. I didn't really care.
The second the race began, I used my earth magic, making the track unstable to mess with his balance. He swerved, barely managing to avoid crashing, veering off into the woods.
Smirking, I took off. Victory was already in sight.
"All's fair in love and war," I muttered under my breath, confident that I had won.
But as I neared the finish line, something was off.
Where is he?
Out of nowhere, a massive tree came crashing down in front of me. I barely avoided it, but my car spun out of control.
"All's fair in love and war, right?" His voice rang out, smug and composed.
I barely had time to react before my car slammed into another tree. My head spun as I watched in horror—his bike crossed the finish line first.
Lylia ran straight to him, hugging him in gratitude, her eyes filled with something I hadn't seen in a long time—relief. Maybe even admiration.
And she looked at me… with pity.
That was the last straw.
I stepped out of my wrecked car, my anger boiling over as I shifted into my wolf form.
"How dare you!" I roared, my voice thick with rage.
The crowd flinched, stepping back in fear.
All except him.
His face remained calm, unbothered.
I saw red.
"Get your hands off her!" I growled.
Lylia turned to me, her stance firm.
"Nicolas, stop. We made a deal. And he won."
She had never spoken to me like that before.
She stood in front of him, as if she was protecting him.
Like he was her lover.
My vision blurred with rage, and I lunged—
"Nicolas, stop!"
Nathan stepped between us, his hands raised.
"Let's go," he urged. "Your father's back."
The moment those words registered, I froze.
My father…
I clenched my jaw and shifted back into my human form, my chest still heaving with anger.
"Let's go," I snapped, storming off, Alice and Nathan following behind me.
