Chereads / The Dark Alpha's Son Wants Me / Chapter 9 - The Invite

Chapter 9 - The Invite

Brittany tucked her hair behind her ear and took baby steps down the hall. The place was huge and built like a luxurious apartment with plenty of rooms, It was even larger than Alpha Luke's packhouse, yet Nathan lived alone. Was the socially awkward side of him actually not a ploy?

She stopped in front of his study room and eyed the mahogany door warily. This particular space, even though large and fancy, was reserved just for pack work and meetings. Back at home, she'd only eat on her bed, but he had a large room for dining and a big table with a lot of chairs, Besides that, he had a TV room, a gaming room and even a patio she could see from the windows. Imagine the dark Alpha's son playing human games and sitting around watching TV?

She hadn't gone around exploring rooms, but she knew her way around most of his house now and the difference in their lifestyles was glaring. It made her feel even more pathetic.

She tapped softly on the door then waited. A part of her wished he'd simply ignore her, but it took only a few measly seconds before shuffling was heard and the door pulled open. Nathan stood before her, his hand on the knob and a pen cover between his teeth as he stared down at her. At home, his attire wasn't much different from how he dressed at school. Perhaps he really just found hoodies and pants comfortable.

It'd been three long, torturous days since she was brought into his home and altogether, she only had about a little over four hours of sleep. She spent most of her days curled up in the corner of the room, her body facing the wall as she rocked herself back and forth. She was ready to do whatever it took to stay out of his way but he made it so hard when he kept breathing down her neck every second of the day. Like any sane person, it was hard enough living with him and even harder having to sleep in the same room with him. The only good thing was that he hadn't forced himself onto her….at least not yet.

Brittany dropped her gaze, staring down at her feet. "M-Miss Wensley said to inform you that she was leaving."

Tamara Wensley was the cook that came by to prepare their meals. Aside from a brief greeting, she thankfully didn't speak much. But Brittany found it unpleasant how she always stared at her through the corner of her eye.

"Mhmm. I heard." He spat the plastic to the floor and reached over, running his fingers through her hair. While she was extremely uncomfortable by the touch, she wasn't at all surprised. When it came to him, it was almost like a habit. If she was near him, then he absolutely had to touch her, if even the tips of her hair. Both that and the collar around her neck, made her feel like he thought of her more as his pet rather than a person.

"How did you sleep today?"

"Its already dark out."

"Ah." He glanced at the watch on his wrist. "I didn't realize. Sorry, Father likes dumping his work onto me. I've been here longer than planned, you must've been lonely. Come in." He opened the door wider and stepped towards the side.

Brittany only shook her head in answer. But Nathan grabbed her wrist anyway, pulling her inside and using his foot to push the door closed.

"I…I only came to tell you that she left. Please let go."

But her words fell on deaf ears. He tugged her across the room, pass the spotless white couches and to his desk. He released her wrist and sat down, only to pat his thigh afterwards. He shamelessly stared up at her expectantly. "Sit."

Brittany bit her lip, but slowly lowered herself to his lap. She sat just at the edge of his thighs, practically on his knees. But it didn't take long before he wrapped his arms around her waist and pulled her up.

"Would you like me to get you some juice? I believe you don't drink." He reached for the wine glass on the table and brought it to his lips, drinking the last of the red liquid. The scent was subtle but she could tell there was alcohol inside.

"I'm fine."

Despite being forced to coexist with a person like the dark Alpha's son, so far, instead of brutally killing people in her face and drinking their blood, it seemed Nathan's whole day was only limited to watching her like a hawk and sticking to her like gum. He stayed by her side at every step of the way…literally, and kept clinging to her as if his life depended on it. Today alone, he finally allowed her to breathe.

"Father invited us out tomorrow." He told her. "It's a party. Are you alright with some light makeup?"

Brittany tensed. His Father? Nathan was one thing but Denzel? What if this so-called party was a sacrificial ceremony and she was the sacrifice? Were they finally about to show their true colors?

"C-Can I refuse to attend?"

"No. Also, could you wear a veil? Just over your mouth and nose. I'm sure you'd look well in anything."

A fetish? Her face twisted but Brittany quickly hid her distaste with the turning of her head and nodded slowly. "But its weird that you thought of asking nicely for this and not anything else."

"Sorry."

"I didn't…say that so you could apologize." She craned her neck to look back him, then quickly turned around when his eyes met hers and he popped a grin. She could clearly see why women went crazy over him.

She cleared her throat. "E-Even if it means nothing, should it even be so easy to get an apology out of you? You kidnapped, drugged and threatened me, yet except for this…" Her fingers brushed the symbol on her arm, "I'm strangely unharmed. What are you waiting for? If…If you're going to kill me anyway, y-you should just do it n-n—" Her voice began to tremble. She was too much of a coward to finish that sentence.

"Relax." The word came low, but it didn't feel like an attempt to comfort her…more like a warning.

"It seems I might be doing something wrong. Does it look like I intend to hurt you? That is not my intention. I'm not the kind of predator that plays around with their prey. If I wanted you dead, then you'd be dead already."
