Recalling the 'painful' memory of knife stabbing through the heart, Marcus' hand instinctively moved towards his chest.
He had been dressed in a white shirt which now had turned blood red. A hole had been cut in the shirt by the knife.
Marucs touched his wound on the chest only to realise that other than dried scrabs of blood, the wound had almost healed.
"Is it my transmigration benefit?" Marcus muttered in another state of shock. "Or Wait! Has my genetic enhancement travelled with me?"
Marcus mind was pushed into another state of shock as he tried to feel his physical body. While Marcus had been a young healthy man, he was nowhere athletic.
But now his body was completely ripped with six pack abs which would take years of hard work to achieve. Not only this, Marcus felt that the power coursing inside his body was many times more than he previously had.
Be it his senses or reflexes, everything had improved.
"No doubt, it is my genetic enhancement," Marcus mumbled.

Despite the 'astonishing' physical recovery Marcus had made, he still felt mentally exhausted and weary. He had come to terms with his 'transmigration' but the aftershock effect of all these events was still lingering on his mind.
With a slight difficulty, Marcus found the correct path to the house. Occupied with various of these thoughts and few of his future plans, Marcus dragged his body back to his rented apartment. It took him another 15 minutes to arrive to his apartment.
Renting a room in this city has not been an easy task. Since, the Patina city was a capital town, it was a costly place. And Marcus had to pay extra attention to his budget.
Marcus had rented the apartment cum room from a middle aged man. The man along with his family lived on the ground floor, where they ran a book shop while Marcus' apartment was on the first floor.
The building was located not very far away from the university, at a distance of around 20 minutes' walk. Thus, the area around the house was a hub for student residence, where a lot of the students of the university resided.
Marcus had to do a lot of convincing for a small reduction in the rent and the owner had only agreed after he found that Marcus was a 'top' student and had gotten a scholarship. In lieu of rent reduction, Marcus had to agree to help and guide the landlord's child in studies on the weekend.
The house had been built in an apartment style. The first floor had separate stairs for it and Marcus had no need to disturb his grumpy landlord.
The first floor was divided into two parts. More than half of the floor was empty terrace- nothing had been constructed in this part. In the second part, Marcus' apartment had been constructed. Well, technically it was a single room with an attached bathroom and a small kitchen.
A small bed had been placed adjoining the right hand side wall from the entrance. An attached bathroom and a small kitchen had their doors on the left hand side.
A pair of old wooden and chair was placed along the wall directly opposite the room. A wooden shelf was also placed next to the table in which Marcus had arranged his books and clothes.
After arriving in his room, the first thing that Marcus did was to walk straight to the bathroom. He undressed all his soiled clothes and took a long shower.
The cold water dripping over his body calmed his emotions and nerves as Marcus started to feel somewhat normal.
After showering, he put on casual pair of clothes- lowers and t-shirt. He then dragged his wooden chair outside the room and placed it at the edge of the terrace and sat on it looking towards the city.
Although, he did not get a fascinating view of skyline of the whole city as taller buildings surrounded this house, Marcus still felt content.

The thing which went through Marcus mind was about his future plans? He had no doubt that with his abilities, he could reach the pinnacle of the world very easily.
In his previous life, Ethan was not only a scientist. He was a powerful individual- economic power, political power or military power, he had it all. He had been a man of power, influence and wealth. His business enterprises ran across entire human civilisations.
He had known what it felt... how it was to stand at the top. Although, in his previous life he was not the sole ruler as many people existed like him, in this world he was going to be the sole ruler.
He was going to be the Modern Day Emperor.
And he was going to achieve the same on a much larger scale. He was going to rule this world. His thought of ruling over the human civilisation brought a smirk on his face and he could not help himself but grin evilly.
"I will fulfil all what you dreamed," Marcus said thinking of his predecessor. "And much more than what you could have imagined."
"And I will start this journey with something you loved," he continued. "Artificial Intelligence."
A growl of hunger from his stomach disrupted Marcus thought process.
"I need food," he mumbled to himself as he picked up his old model phone to order a takeout. With his poverty, eating out was a luxury, which Marcus could have rarely afforded. But things were about to change.
