Stanley wanted to keep silent, but he couldn't hold himself back when he saw that she was leaving him.
He snorted, "Well, I have decided to get married to your sister, Jenna. You are the reason for all this because you are like a desert, dry and unfruitful. Jenna has given me what you have refused to give me for 3 years. She's pregnant."
Zoe paused for a moment. Her heart was aching not because she loved Stanley, but because he chose to stab her heart so deeply with his betrayal. What made it worse was impregnating her sister.
Tears pricked at the corner of her eyes, threatening to spill. "Does it mean I'm the one having issues of not being able to get pregnant? Zoe muttered to herself. She didn't turn around to confront him, she did not want Stanley to see how much grief and pain his words gave her.
So she simply continued packing her dresses and shoes inside her luggage and stayed silent, acting like she hadn't heard a single word coming out of his filthy mouth.
Stanley clicked his tongue, "Why are you silent? You know well enough that I'm not getting married to Jenna by choice, right?" "This is all because of you, it's your fault; you are barren, you've failed to fulfill your responsibility; it's natural for me to find another woman to have a child with, and I choose your sister, Jenna. As she is already carrying my child in her."
Zoe clenched one of her handbags as she continued to ignore him, she'd known that tears would escape, rolling down her cheeks if she responded.
Stanley's eyes pleaded for attention, but Zoe's focus remained on her clothes packing. He had been kind enough to explain their situation, and he thought that Zoe should have at least understood his position.
Stanley, a 35-year-old, has been pressured by his mom for a grandchild ever since he got married to Zoe. As the elder brother of two siblings, he feels the weight of his mother's expectations bearing down on him. Despite his father passing away due to a long illness, it didn't leave a responsible mark on Stanley. Instead, he became a deadbeat.
With a heavy sigh, Stanley trudges across the room, his footsteps echoing through the silence. He stopped In Front of the worn wooden dresser, his gaze fixed on the top drawer, he pulled it open, revealing a divorce paper he had signed. He held it in his hands as he stared at Zoe still packing her dresses.
Stanley snorted, "You know there is a lot of pressure from my mom. She wants to have a grandchild, and you can't give her that one simple request. Besides, Jenna is your sister, right? Being sisters you both naturally look similar and share the same genes. I don't care if you are upset or not about this."
Zoe finally turned around and glared at Stanley with her eyes red from holding back her tears. But she couldn't hold it anymore, and she let it out.
Stanley's expression twisted into a mixture of satisfaction and cruelty as he watched her tears streaming down her cheek. He thought that Zoe would plead for not giving him a child. As she always does. But it seems he was wrong.
Zoe dabbed the corner of her eyes, wiping away the evidence of her emotional storm. She tried to swallow her grief because she had already told herself many times not to cry for this useless human being.
"You have broken my trust, I won't tolerate this betrayal any longer. Your actions have consequences, are you prepared to face them?" Zoe asked with a hoarse voice.
"I am justified in all of this, had it not been because of your infertility, we wouldn't have come to this situation," Stanley insisted.
"Oh yeah, we've never been medically tested because you always refused to do so!"
"At least you can see that I'm medically healthy to be able to impregnate a woman; as I told you earlier, your sister Jenna is having my baby; you are the one who's barren."
"Really?!" Zoe raised her voice. But she quickly toned it down, knowing that getting angry at this ignorant man would be a waste of time.
She pushed Stanley away and said. "Your infidelity has shattered our marriage, and I deserve more than a cheating husband. You have to compensate me for your inability to get money! You haven't earned a dime since last year!"
Stanley's eyes darkened, "You know I've been trying to get a job, getting a job in Wimland is difficult."
Usually, Zoe would shut up after Stanley mentioned that he had already tried his best. The excuse why he failed was that he hadn't found the right fit yet, and the job market was tough. There was always an excuse.
But then she remembered the mysterious man she had met at the bar last night.
He was effortlessly handsome and had notable achievements. Bernard reminded Zoe that Stanley was not on par in any aspect.
Zoe's sister appeared in the doorway, her presence a sudden interruption to their tense argument.
Zoe darted her eyes towards Jenna and she asked, " Are you pregnant for him?"
Jenna's jaw dropped, she felt like she had been punched in the gut, 'How could she have known? Maybe Stanley had told her.' She wondered but didn't respond to Zoe's question.
Zoe was eager to know, not because she cared, but because she wanted to be sure if Stanley was able to impregnate a woman. She asked again, "Jenna, are you pregnant for Stanley?"
Jenna sighed, before responding. "Yes, I am."
"So, you have finally succeeded in ruining my marriage, after all the support I have given you as a sister, hope you are happy?" Zoe asked.
Guilt glued Jenna on the spot, unable to move or speak.
Zoe glared at Stanley and noticed he was clutching some papers, but didn't realize it was divorce papers.
