Synopsis
Aliya is no stranger to the frequent belittlement from her own family. After all, she was just adopted from the orphanage where her grandmother, Lola Amelia, was a sponsor. She was her grandmother's favorite. Her grandmother's family took care of her, but everything changed when Lola Amelia died. It turned out that all the kindness shown to her by the family was just for show. They started treating her as a servant and not as family. But everything changed again when she got engaged to a man she didn't even know. Her Aunt Geneva had a debt she needed to pay. The only way to avoid harm from the creditor was to offer someone to marry his son, Dos. Geneva couldn't make her own daughter marry a gangster's son, so she married off Aliya instead. Dos turns out to be her Math Professor. Is Dos bringing another nightmare into Aliya's life, or is he the calm after the storm?

Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: I hate rains.

Night had finally come, and I could rest in my room. I was utterly exhausted from all the cleaning and organizing in the mansion.

I could still hear the loud laughter of Aunt Geneva and her friends, who had been gambling in the game room since earlier. I had just finished serving them food, as they had been gambling all day, so I was used to their constant orders.

I was about to close my eyes when I heard Seana, Aunt Geneva's daughter, calling me.

"Hey, before you go to sleep, can you wash my P.E. uniform? It's so dirty," she ordered mockingly.

She threw her smelly clothes at my face, which I immediately threw on the floor and stomped on once she left. I couldn't stand her presence. She and Aunt Geneva always treated me like a servant.

I sighed deeply and closed my eyes again. I lay down on the bed, tired from their constant orders all day, and I had school tomorrow, so I needed to sleep early.

I didn't complain about their orders since I had no right to; I'm just adopted.

If only Grandma were here, I would never have to suffer like this. If only she hadn't been taken from me so early, maybe I would enjoy my life again with her. She was the only one who saved me. She was the only one who protected me.

Suddenly, I felt warm liquid streaming down my face. I was also startled by the loud thunder and the sudden downpour of heavy rain. I immediately covered my ears and couldn't help but cry. Sh*t, I hate the rain. It only reminds me of the things I want to forget.

I do hate rains, I really do.
