The Past of Weld Denvor :
The halls of Narita Kingdom's North Palace were always eerily silent. Unlike the bustling courts of the main palace, where nobles and warriors weaved their intricate games of power, this place was different.
This was Cortana's domain.
Weld Denvor sat in a grand, dimly lit chamber, facing a chessboard. Across from him sat a young boy, Leon VI Narita, his jet-black eyes focused with an intensity that did not belong to a ten-year-old.
Between them, the board was a battlefield.
Weld's gloved fingers hovered over a rook, but he hesitated. His instincts as a knight screamed at him to make a move—to push forward, to attack. But every time he thought he saw an opening, Leonard had already set a trap.
The silence stretched on. The faint scent of alchemical herbs lingered in the air, drifting in from the laboratory nearby. A single mechanical light flickered above them, casting elongated shadows across the polished table.
Finally, Weld sighed and moved his piece.
Leonard didn't even hesitate.
With a smooth, deliberate motion, the boy moved his knight. "Checkmate."
Weld blinked, staring at the board in disbelief. Again. He hadn't held back—not even a little. Yet, Prince Leon had crushed him within fifteen moves.
The boy leaned back in his chair, studying Weld's expression with a knowing smirk. "You thought I was being defensive," prince Leon murmured, "but I wasn't waiting. I was guiding you."
Weld let out a dry chuckle. "Prince Leon, you remind me of your mother, my liege"
Leon's smirk faded slightly at the mention of Cortana, but he said nothing. Instead, he reached for a small wooden box beside him, pulling out a vial of pale green liquid.
"Drink this," he said, pushing the vial toward Weld.
Weld raised an eyebrow. "What is it?"
"Something that clears the mind," Leon replied casually. "You clearly need it. I made it myself as an assignment for my lab study"
Weld chuckled again, shaking his head. "You're a genius, little master. Sometimes, I am afraid of your mind." But he took the vial anyway.
He had been serving Cortana for years now, and by extension, her son. Leon VI Narita wasn't like other noble children. He didn't play outside with wooden swords. He didn't boast about his lineage or demand attention. Instead, he buried himself in books, spent hours in his mother's alchemical chambers, and played chess with a frightening level of foresight.
Unlike his mother who is a transcender : the being of highest physical capabilities among human, He is fragile in body, but his mind is a masterpiece just like his alchemist mother.
Weld had never once won a single game against him.
Outside, a cold wind howled against the stone walls of the North Palace. Weld's one leg is on knee at Prince Leon, he is accepting vial from Leon's hand, staring at the porcelain floor under them.
For now, things were peaceful.
But deep down, Weld is imagine that thing will be peaceful ,then Leon become a King of Narita and he will serve under all hail Leon VI Narita.
The Turning Point
The night of Prince Leon's sixteenth birthday was supposed to be a quiet one.
Unlike the grand celebrations at the main palace, Cortana had planned a simple evening—just herself, Leon, and a private dinner in the North Palace. A few candles, a fine meal, perhaps a rare book gifted to her son. That was all they needed.
But death came before the night could end.
Weld Denvor had been standing guard outside the North Palace, as he always did, when the silence was broken by the sound of shattering glass. Then came the muffled sound of a struggle, a heavy crash, and the metallic scent of blood thickening the cold night air.
By the time he reached Cortana's chamber, it was already too late.
She lay sprawled across the floor, her once-powerful body lifeless, her jet black hair stained with crimson red blood. The woman who had transcended human limits, who had never once wavered in battle—had been brought down by assassins in her own home.
Weld dropped to his knees beside her, his hands trembling as he pressed against the wound, as if he could somehow force time backward. He couldn't.
Leon stood at the doorway, unmoving. His jet-black eyes were hollow, devoid of the sharpness they once held. He didn't scream. He didn't cry. He just stood there, staring.
That was the moment something in both of them shattered.
his mind become a critic, his mind become calm, his mind is full of emotion, he think his mind is about to split into two.Leon is calculating all the possibilities right now, but nothing seem right. The whole world become blurry.
Leon's inner dialogue :
"Queen mother Cortana, no, I mean, mom, I still haven't..."
"This is happening because you are a weak frail boy"
"Did assassin's sword has potent Poison, I think I can save mother"
"No, those symptoms, it can't be, this poison is Nefarious Pollen : the one we still haven't found the cure."
"Who dare kill my mother, power rival?, I will make them pay"
"Assassin must be a transcender too, I need to check the list of transcender at main Library "
"First I need to confirm who did this"
"Then I will lay trap at the basement of main palace, when that guy got caught in my trap"
"And then and then, I will cut their limb vertically, take out the bone, cut their finger and put them inside their throat, and then I will cure them with medicine, then , then , I will take out their bone, dissolve in..."
And with one big chop over Leon's neck, he fell asleep.
"Sorry, my little master, I need to do this before you lose your mind." Weld murmured himself, "sleep well my little master, I will never leave your side, you can't lose your mind right now" Queen Cortana whispered "we can't let you become a monster yourself".
The Hollow Years
After Cortana's death, Weld lost his will to live.
He remained in the main palace, but not as a knight—just as a man who had failed. He spent his days in the training grounds, swinging his sword at empty air, as if punishing himself for every moment he had been too slow, too weak, too blind.
He refused to serve another. He refused to fail again.
Then, one night, Otto the Jester appeared before him.
"The little prince has vanished," Otto said, "Ran away from the castle. Gone without a trace."
Weld turned sharply, his exhausted eyes narrowing. "What did you say?"
Otto smirked. "Leon. The little master, He's gone." The jester said with a serious expression "Guess he finally got tired of being a puppet."
"Wait a moment, what did you know about that night, Otto, I haven't talk to you for so long"
Otto answered, "I mean I am a humble jester for little master, but, he didn't like one bit when I am near him, so I always stay away from little master, I know nothing about that night"
Weld said "I know it is not you, a very loyal servent to Cortana wouldn't dare, but I am asking that you got any Intel from main palace"
Otto answered "oh, now I remember, that night, special envoy from western union went to North palace, Kitchen staff saw him walking to North Palace"
Weld's inner dialogue:
"Did the special envoy really assassinated Queen Cortana, can't be. So, then who was, and also there are a lot of people going to North palace that night, the culprit make it seem like special envoy did it, I have always seen special envoy and Queen Cortana in a good relationship,"
Now Weld need to make a decision to abondon Narita and follow his liege's son, or stay in Narita Kingdom and join the purist faction.
Weld didn't hesitate. That same night, he abandoned his post. He resigned from his duty, left his armor behind, and set off to find Leon.
Reunion in Avalon
Two years passed.
When Weld finally found Leon, the boy was no longer a noble. No longer a prince.
He had become someone else.
Leon VI Narita, heir to the North Palace, was gone. The young man standing before him in Avalon was just "Leonard".
And worse—he didn't remember Weld.
Leonard inner dialogue:
"What is Queen Mother's knight doing here? No… could he be tailing me? Does he know my real identity? If so, what should I do? Is he an enemy…?"
He doesn't seem hostile, but I can't afford to get tangled up in Narita's cursed bloodline again. I have my own path now.
And that jester—he's as irritating as ever. His jokes weren't funny back then, and they're no better now. Just childish nonsense. I see… I can use this."
The boy who had once crushed him in chess, who had once pushed vials of strange potions into his hands with that mischievous smile, now stared at him like a stranger.
"…Have we met?" Leonard asked, tilting his head slightly.
Weld's chest tightened.
For a moment, he thought about telling him the truth. About the North Palace. About Cortana. About everything that had been lost.
But looking at Leonard now, so far removed from his past, Weld made a different choice.
He forced a small smile and held out his hand.
"Name's Weld. Just an adventurer passing through." Here is Otto, my companion.
"I am Otto, my liege, oops...sorry." Otto said.
"You idiot, Otto," weld laughed and said.
"Ha Ha, you guys are funny." Leon said with a smile.
Leonard studied him for a moment, then shrugged and shook his hand. "Leonard."
And just like that, Weld became someone new.
He stayed in Avalon, keeping his past buried, living alongside Leon and Otto— ghosts of the past, lost in a city that didn't care who they used to be.
Adventure guild
"Yo, I am new here in Avalon. My name is Weld and I am a warrior, here is Otto, my companion, a support"
Conterstaff at adventure guild take some note...
Weld think "And for now… that was enough."
