The first wraith lunged.
A cold wind swept through the ruins as it drew its rusted sword. Its hollow,glowing eyes locked onto Luffy, shrieking with a voice that seemed to echo from the grave itself.
Zoro reacted instantly. Steel met shadow as his blade clashed against the wraith's. But something was wrong. Instead of the usual force of metal colliding, Zoro's sword seemed to pass through the enemy's weapon, as if it weren't entirely solid.
"Tch—what the hell is this thing?" Zoro growled leaping back.
The answer came quickly. The wraith tilted its head unnaturally and slashed again—this time its blade met flesh. A shallow cut appeared on Zoro's arm and for the first time in years, he felt something he hadn't expected.
A deep, creeping cold spread from the wound.
"Zoro!" Chopper cried.
Zoro gritted his teeth. "I'm fine," he muttered, but his body felt heavy.
Sanji dashed in, flames bursting from his legs. "If steel doesn't work, let's see if you can handle fire!" With a spinning Diable Jambe, he sent a flaming kick into the wraith's chest. The moment Sanji's foot connected, the creature let out an ear-piercing scream, its form flickering like a dying candle flame.
Robin's eyes narrowed. "They react to fire."
"Then I'll burn them all down!" Sanji said, preparing another attack.
But before he could move, more wraiths rose from the mist, their skeletal hands clutching rusted weapons. Five. Ten. Twenty.
The cloaked figure from before sighed. "You are truly reckless," he muttered. He raised his staff, and a burst of blue energy exploded outward. The wraiths froze, as if restrained by an invisible force.
Luffy tilted his head. "Whoa! Cool trick! Can you teach me that?"
The man ignored him. He turned to Zoro and gestured toward the wound. "If left untreated, that cut will consume you. Their blades do not just wound the body but the soul."
Chopper immediately jumped into action, pulling out bandages and medicine. "We need to heal him right now!"
The stranger shook his head. "Mortal medicine won't work." He pulled a small silver vial from his cloak. "Drink this."
Zoro eyed the vial suspiciously. "You sure you're not poisoning me?"
"You would already be dead if I wished it," the man replied coolly.
Nami crossed her arms. "Not exactly reassuring but we don't have many options."
With a grunt Zoro snatched the vial and gulped it down. A sharp coldness rushed through his veins before fading into a strange warmth. The creeping numbness disappeared.
"Well, that's something," he admitted.
Usopp, who had been hiding behind Franky, finally found his voice. "Alright, someone better start explaining! Who are you? Where are we? And WHAT were those things?!"
The man sighed, lowering his staff. "You have stumbled into a world that should have remained buried. This place… was once known as Middle-earth."
The crew exchanged glances.
Robin's expression darkened. "Middle-earth… I've seen references to it in the oldest texts, but I thought it was just a legend."
The man's eyes flickered with something unreadable. "All legends are built from truth."
Luffy grinned. "Cool! So, what's the big deal about this place?"
The man's gaze hardened. "This land was destroyed in a war unlike any other. A war waged over something far more dangerous than any treasure in your world." He lifted his hand—a golden ring glinted on his palm.
The moment the crew saw the ring, something shifted in the air.
Nami's breath caught. "That's… just a ring, right?"
Robin's voice was quiet but filled with tension. "No. That's not just any ring."
The man's fingers curled around the gold band. "This is the One Ring—the last remnant of an evil that nearly destroyed Middle-earth." His silver eyes locked onto them.
"And it should never have been found."
