"I hope I get lots of magic crystals today," Lumi wished silently.
Lumi was a solo adventurer. Why wasn't she part of a group? Because she was a Half-Elf. Half-Elves possessed minimal magic due to their mixed heritage of elves and humans. Humans had "skills," martial abilities resembling magic, while elves wielded "spirit magic," harnessing elements like water, air, fire, and earth. Half-Elves, however, lost both abilities, leaving them powerless in either.
This often led to discrimination against Half-Elves, though not all humans and elves treated them poorly. Some maintained good relations.
That morning, Lumi ventured into the forest to hunt small-fry monsters and sell their magic crystals. While exploring, she stumbled upon a glowing box. "What's this? A magic item?" she wondered curiously. Opening it, she found strange objects inside. "Is this a mirror?" she muttered, examining them. "What's this black board? And a cord?" She connected the cord and board to the mirror, which suddenly emitted light, revealing it was a smartphone. Lumi gasped, stunned by the image on the mirror.
"Hi! Thanks for activating me!" a voice chimed from the smartphone.
"Whoa! Who's that?!" Lumi yelped, dropping the device.
"Hey, don't panic! I'm Lucy, a smartphone. Think of me as a magic item," it explained.
"Lucy? A smartphone?" Lumi frowned, confused.
"Yep! You'll find other items here too like headphones, a charger panel, and Wi-Fi." "So the Galaxy Guardian really did turn me into a smartphone…" Lucy thought privately.
"What's your name?" Lucy asked.
"Lumi," she replied.
"Lumi? Hahaha, our names are so similar! Maybe it's fate?" Lucy teased.
"I can do things you've never seen like watch videos, play music, take pictures!" Lucy showcased features like the camera, music player, and videos. She briefly puzzled over how she had internet access on a satellite-less planet but shrugged it off.
Amazed, Lumi marveled at this extraordinary discovery. Lucy warned her to keep their secret, fearing danger if others found out. After chatting, Lumi brought Lucy back to her inn as noon approached.
