Chapter 6 - Chapter 6

Amelia entered the room of Amelia Cosgrove. The room was plain, containing no form of luxury as should be expected from the first daughter of the Cosgrove family.

Amelia sighed.

She needed a warm bath at least to relax her mind.

The scene that had just unfolded was both amusing and exhausting. When she was still Amelia Volemont, she had experienced theatrics far worse displayed by noble ladies when they attempted to smear her name. But she had been Amelia Volemont, and she had never let them succeed. Instead, she had trampled on all of them, even causing some to be evicted from high society.

But now, she was no longer Amelia Volemont. She was an unfavored daughter with no power or influence. Still, that didn't mean she couldn't deal with Lilac. Hers was just child's play.

After taking her bath, Amelia dried her hair, looking at it with amazement. Her blonde hair had pink-tinted tips.

She had never seen such colorful hair before, and she kind of liked it.

Instinctively, Amelia looked around for the dressing room, then suddenly remembered that Amelia Cosgrove didn't have one, only a simple wardrobe.

"I'll have to get used to this," she muttered under her breath. She opened the wardrobe, revealing quite a small collection of clothing.

Amelia picked a simple outfit, then sat on the queen-sized bed and picked up her phone. Despite being in this world for over three days, she was still quite fascinated by the small box called a phone.

Then, she heard a knock on the door.

Amelia frowned.

She wasn't expecting anyone.

"Come in," she said.

The door creaked open, and Lilac walked in.

Amelia sighed in annoyance.

"I thought I told you not to bother me."

Lilac's eyes became teary. "Sister…"

"If all you're going to do is cry, you're excused."

Lilac bit her lip, looking aggrieved.

"Sister, why do you hate me so much? I just came to check up on you since you said you jumped off the bridge," she said, then suddenly fell to her knees. "It really wasn't intentional, Sister. It's just that Ace and I love each other, but for you, I'm willing to give him up."

Amelia's expression darkened.

What did this girl just say? She's willing to give Ace up…? It was just a mistake…?

A mistake to sleep with your sister's fiancé?

Amelia let out a bitter laugh. She leaned back on the bed, her hair cascading over her shoulders as she studied Lilac's teary figure. The girl's performance was almost impressive, the quivering lips, the doe-eyed guilt, it was just almost perfect.

But Amelia Volemont had seen this act countless of times.

"How noble of you," Amelia drawled mockingly. "To sacrifice your true love for my sake. Truly, a martyrdom worthy of sainthood."

Lilac's tears froze. "Sister, I—I only want to make things right—"

"Do you?" Amelia interrupted, tilting her head. "Because if I recall correctly, you didn't 'sacrifice' anything when you climbed into my fiancé's bed. Or when you giggled about it to your little friends at the banquet two weeks ago."

Lilac's lips quivered as she looked up, her eyes shimmering with crocodile tears. "It wasn't like that, Sister. We never meant to hurt you."

"Never meant to hurt me?" Amelia stood and looked down at Lilac. "Sleeping with my fiancé while pretending to be the perfect little sister and painting me as the bully wasn't meant to hurt me?" She crossed her arms. "What exactly was it meant to do, then?"

"I—" Lilac stammered, struggling to find her words. "Sister, I only wanted to—"

"To what? Humiliate me? Undermine me? Or were you just proving how good you are at taking things that aren't yours?"

Lilac blinked, causing tears to fall down her cheeks. "Sister, why are you saying this? I came here to make amends. I'm willing to step aside for you. Isn't that enough?"

Amelia's eyes turned cold. "Tell me, if I'd drowned that day, would you be kneeling here? Or would you be picking out wedding lace with my fiancé?"

"Enough, Amelia!" Ace said as he barged into the room. He looked at the kneeling Lilac and then glared at Amelia. "She came to apologize! She even knelt down! Why are you being so evil?!"
