The sun had barely risen when she opened her eyes, staring at the cracked ceiling of their tiny apartment. The air was thick with silence, except for the faint snores of her younger siblings in the next room.
Her body felt heavy. Another day, another struggle.
Her father hadn't been able to work since he fell sick, and with bills piling up, she had no choice but to find a job—any job.
She sat up, rubbing her tired eyes. No calls, no messages. The job interviews from last week had led to nothing.
Her stomach growled, but there was barely enough food left in the house.
"I can't give up."
Pushing aside her exhaustion, she stood up and got ready, tying her worn-out shoes. Just as she was about to leave, her old phone vibrated in her hand.
One new message.
Her breath caught as she read the words.
Congratulations. You have been selected as an office worker at Kane Industries. Report by 8 AM today.
For a moment, she just stood there, staring.
Then, her lips trembled, and before she could stop herself, she laughed—a shaky, disbelieving laugh.
Finally.
A job. A chance to breathe.
She rushed to get dressed, ignoring the fact that her clothes weren't fancy enough for a corporate job.
Her little sister peeked out groggily, rubbing her eyes. "Did something good happen?"
She swallowed the lump in her throat and smiled. "Yes. I got a job."

8 AM – Kane Industries
Standing in front of the tallest skyscraper in the city, she clutched her bag tightly, staring at the massive glass doors.
Kane Industries.
She had heard about the CEO before. Xavier Kane. A man so powerful, so untouchable, that people spoke his name in whispers.
He was rich. Dangerous. And completely out of her world.
But today, she was stepping into his company.
Taking a deep breath, she pushed open the doors.
