Chapter 38 - Shalu

"Dr. Gero, please leave Cell's cultivation to me. I can solve the issue of its excessively long incubation cycle."

Hearing this, Renkai immediately thought of the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, which he had modified with Dr. Brief and Bulma. Now, it was time to put it to use.

One year inside the Hyperbolic Time Chamber equaled just a single day in the real world.

Thus, after a little over twenty days had passed...

Inside Dr. Gero's secret laboratory, the scientist once again observed Cell submerged in a glass incubation chamber.

Cell had already reached adulthood.

However, due to changes from the original course of events, he lacked the genetic material of King Cold. Instead, his cells contained those of various superpowered beings, including the fusion-adept Rabbit Clan and Chiaotzu.

As a result, his adult form was not as tall as originally depicted. Instead, he appeared much smaller and more compact.

Moreover, thanks to Renkai's interference, Cell no longer possessed a tail capable of absorbing others for evolution.

Though diminutive in size compared to the original, his appearance was not as grotesque as Cell's first form. In fact, with his green-hued body, he even seemed somewhat... cute.

"Renkai, how did you manage this?"

Dr. Gero gaped at the fully matured Cell, momentarily stunned before a surge of exhilaration filled his eyes.

After spending countless research funds and years of effort, he had finally produced an android with formidable combat power from the outset!

Renkai explained that he, Dr. Brief, and Bulma had spent several months modifying the Hyperbolic Time Chamber to make this breakthrough possible.

"So it was the Hyperbolic Time Chamber," Dr. Gero mused, nodding in understanding. "Such a wondrous place... I must study it in depth one day."

"Dr. Gero, the time has come to witness the fruits of our labor. I leave it to you to release Cell."

Renkai directed his gaze at the slumbering Cell within the chamber.

Feeling a deep sense of accomplishment, Dr. Gero nodded and inputted commands into the computer.

With a soft "gurgle," the incubation fluid drained from the glass chamber.

Cell's eyes snapped open. Like a newly hatched chick breaking out of its shell, he shattered the glass with a single palm and stepped out onto the shards.

He appeared harmless, his gaze shifting between Renkai and Dr. Gero in confusion.

However, when his eyes landed on Renkai, a flicker of fear flashed through them.

"After raising him for over twenty years, he only has a combat power of around 10,000?"

Renkai checked Cell's battle strength with his scouter and frowned.

"Without King Cold's cells and relying only on Saiyan and incomplete Namekian DNA, this version of Cell is too weak."

Dr. Gero looked at Renkai incredulously.

"10,000 isn't enough for you?"

He recalled that centuries ago, King Piccolo, who had once nearly conquered the world, had barely surpassed a power level of 300.

And yet Renkai was dissatisfied with 10,000?

If the Red Ribbon Army still existed, they would have been overjoyed to possess such a powerful android!

Still unwilling to give up on Cell's potential, Renkai retrieved a black-skinned carrot from his system storage—one transformed from Turles—and handed it to the now somewhat endearing Cell.

Upon seeing the carrot, Cell's eyes brightened with visible excitement.

As soon as Renkai placed it in his hand, Cell devoured it hungrily.

In an instant, a powerful surge of energy erupted from within his body, nearly sending the frail Dr. Gero flying.

Thankfully, Renkai caught him just in time.

"Let's check Cell's power now."

He activated his scouter once more.

Beep! Beep!

Cell's combat power: 200,000.

"Dr. Gero, this android isn't a failure after all. He can continue to grow!"

Renkai smiled at the scientist.

Cell, meanwhile, relished the overwhelming power coursing through his body. His expression shifted, and he slowly turned his gaze toward Renkai and Dr. Gero.

But this time, there was something different in his eyes.

A deep hunger.

His stare lingered on Renkai.

Licking his lips, Cell suddenly materialized before Renkai in a blur of motion, his right hand reaching out toward his stomach.

"Cell! What are you doing? Step back at once!"

Dr. Gero was horrified—he never expected his creation to attack its own creators.

But Cell ignored him entirely.

He continued staring at Renkai with unconcealed greed.

Since he possessed the genetic material of the Rabbit Clan, he had also inherited their unique abilities.

After tasting the transformative power of the black carrot, his instincts now screamed for him to consume Renkai—turning him into another carrot and absorbing his strength.

"Dr. Gero, it looks like your android isn't as obedient as you had hoped," Renkai remarked with a smirk.

Dr. Gero's expression turned bitter.

Cell's eyes flickered with confusion.

Why wasn't Renkai transforming into a carrot?

His instincts told him that he should be able to do it... yet nothing happened.

What's your strength? What's my strength? And you think you can turn me into a carrot? Keep dreaming.

Renkai casually raised his hand and smacked Cell on the head.

Poof!

A puff of white smoke enveloped the android.

When it cleared, Cell had turned into a green-skinned carrot.

"Thank goodness you're safe, Renkai!"

Dr. Gero sighed in relief.

Renkai was his most trusted confidant—he couldn't afford to lose him.

"It failed again... Just like my previous androids, Cell refuses to obey orders. I suppose we have no choice but to destroy him," Dr. Gero lamented.

"Don't be so hasty," Renkai interjected.

"The obedience issue can be addressed later. For now, the creation of such a powerful android is still worth celebrating."

Seeing Dr. Gero's disappointment, Renkai stored the transformed Cell—now a carrot—into his system storage.

"You're right, Renkai," Dr. Gero nodded, regaining his optimism. "If we can create powerful androids, then surely, making them obedient is just a matter of time."

Renkai, however, scoffed internally.

Dr. Gero, obedience has always been your biggest issue.

This genius scientist was unparalleled when it came to creating androids.

But controlling them? That was another story entirely.

He had been killed by Android 17 in the original timeline.

In the alternate future, Dr. Gero never even made an appearance—he was likely eliminated by his own creations before he could complete his work.

Renkai knew he couldn't count on Gero to solve this problem.

If he wanted truly obedient artificial beings, he would have to find a way himself.
