Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: Transmigration

Hello dear readers, this is my new novel or rather fanfic. Just know that Poison Refining Demon Venerable is on ice for now.

1. Who is your favorite character?

2. What's your favorite Esper ability?

3. Would you rather control great personal power or a great civilization?

......"I am not doing it.""Elrin, you stupid—" yelled the middle-aged man behind the lavishly decorated desk, the veins on his forehead visibly bulging through his blue skin."Don't care, not doing it," the young man standing in front of him interrupted nonchalantly. This young man, like the man before him, wore high-quality clothing, which, along with the 'noble' tattoo on his left forearm, confirmed their social status.Among billions of Eozarithians, maybe only five or so would have the gall to talk to the middle-aged man like this, regardless of noble or civilian status."Beyond Grade-A this, Beyond Grade-A that... Do you want to throw away everything for this foolish dream?" the older man asked."Yes. You know as well as I do that our civilization will be doomed without one sooner or later," the younger man replied, seemingly detached from the conversation."You have not even awakened! Damn fool!" the man shouted.Silence descended on the room, and after 20 or 30 seconds passed, the older man spoke again, this time notably calmer."So, son, assuming you awaken, how do you plan to finance your ascent through the ranks? Not to mention becoming a Beyond Grade-A super?"In return, he got a look that said, Obviously, you will be paying for it, duh, which caused the vein on the older man's forehead to start throbbing with newfound vigor."Guards! Guards! Throw this idiot son of mine into prison!" the man started screaming, as if he were about to do it himself in case the guards were even a second late.Fortunately for the son, though, the guards were fast enough, quickly grabbing him by the arms and dragging him out of the room.He had no chance of resistance, of course, as the guards must have been at least Grade-C Supers to even qualify for this position."Hahaha! Throw me wherever you want! I am not becoming a damn governor, you stupid old—"BoomThe doors to the planetary governor's office swung shut before the young man could finish his undoubtedly vulgar insult."Fuck you! Fuck your mothers, fathers, aunts, grandparents, neighbors, and childhood friends! You are dogs, you hear me? Dogs, I say!"The same young man who had been in that argument a few minutes ago was now throwing all kinds of insults at the guards.ThudIn response, he was unceremoniously thrown onto the admittedly lavish bed in his 'prison cell,' with the guards, of course, controlling themselves so as not to hurt him."Young Master," one of the guards stepped forward and addressed him."You will be given three meals a day. I will stand guard at the end of this corridor, so if you change your mind, press the button in your cell, and I shall convey your messages to the Governor." With that, he closed the cell door and walked away."Fuck this..." the young man, Elrin, said, putting his feet up on the bed.On this day, he graduated from Eozarith's most prestigious academy—the one that only the rich, powerful, and talented future Governors could attend—with honors. He also cursed more than he ever had in a single day and was thrown into prison. What a day.In another universe...Some random fan of web novels died randomly, as seems to be the norm if said novels are to be believed."What? How am I not dea—"I was stunned speechless—my death, my apparent rebirth, and worst of all, the thing in front of my eyes.[You have awakened as an Esper.][Would you like to view your Ability and Status?][Yes / No]"Esper? System? Oh man..." For the second time today, I couldn't finish my sentence as memories began to appear in my mind rapidly.Elrin van Vril'okai.Espers, Mechanics, Pugilists, Psychers, and Mages.Star System Civilization—Eozarith.Beyond Grade-A.But one thing appeared in my mind again and again, and I knew it came from my own memories, not the new ones. The Legendary Mechanic. The Legendary Mechanic. The Legendary Mechanic. The Legendary FUCKING Mechanic!Absorbing the memories of this body took significantly less time than I expected. That now brought me to my next problem, namely the screen floating in front of me.[You have awakened as an Esper.][Would you like to view your Ability?][Yes / No]I was sure my predecessor would have been ecstatic at this, but I knew a lot more than he did.Let me ask you a question:Which profession, upon awakening, has the chance to permanently restrict you from advancing beyond a certain power level?a) Espers

b) Psychers

c) Mages

d) Pugilists

e) Mechanics

And do you know the answer?Of course, it's the one that I have awakened...What's weird is that 'Players' in the original novel had to use an item to awaken an Esper ability. So my working theory is that my predecessor awakened before I took over. So, pray for me as I find out the most important thing about this new body.[You have awakened an Esper Ability, unlocking the Esper Class Knowledge Tree ~ DNA Tree.][You have unlocked a new profession:Neophyte Esper (10) (F)Energy +10, INT +1, MYS +1You have gained 2 Stat Points. You have gained 1 Potential Point.][You have acquired newfound powers:Esper Ability - Ruler - For each major rank, you gain one ability related to ruling.Potential Grade Rating: X[Restriction] - Class Advancement will not grant you any additional skills.[Rank F Skill - Taxation] - For every normal sentient being that accepts your rule, you will have a chance to gain 1 EXP per year. The EXP gain is increased for 'followers' that are Supers, depending on their strength. Your chance to harvest the EXP will depend on your luck, your followers' relationship with you, as well as the impact you have had on their life.]"Oh, my god..."If I could apply to be the leader of one of the universal civilizations, that would probably make me a Beyond Grade-A super by the time this skill activated for the first time in a year. But jokes aside, if I remember correctly, the argument my predecessor had with his father was about refusing to become a city governor—a position where I would have anywhere from 3 to 10 million people under me.The best part? While such a position is the end goal for billions of Eozarithians, for me, barring any large mistakes, this would be a stepping stone to inheriting my father's position as planetary governor. My father is one of 2,355 planetary governors in our civilization, with very few standing above him—namely, the 32 Grade-A Supers and the Supreme Governor. In my family, this position is inherited. Even my last name, 'Vril'okai,' was just the planet's name, as one of my ancestors settled here and others made significant contributions. That's not to say planetary governors cannot be removed, but it isn't done without reason. As my thoughts wandered there, I was overcome with insatiable greed.Civilizational Governor—a man who rules over the entire civilization and species, such an unbelievable number of living beings."Hehehehe..."If I behave myself, reconcile with my father, and do my best, I am basically guaranteed the position of Planetary Governor. Civilizational Governor, on the other hand, will be much more difficult... First, the current one will have to die, resign, or be removed. Then, I will have to be one of about 10,000 people qualified for the position.Fortunately, Planetary Governors are among those qualified. Still, I would have to be elected, and that would be hellishly difficult."Well, calm down. One thing at a time...""Status," I said.[Name: Elrin van Vril'okaiRace: Eozarithian/Carbon-basedModel: NPC (Countdown to Version 1.0 launch: 8,510 years, 39 days, 1 hour, 15 minutes)Level: 11Experience: 151,266Main Class: Neophyte Esper Lv. 1 (0/200)Sub-class: Student Governor Lv. 10 (Max.)Attributes: Strength 10, Dexterity 10, Endurance 10, Intelligence 24, Mystery 13, Charm 11, Luck 101Unassigned Stats: 2Lv. 1 (10) – [STR +1, DEX +1, END +1, MAX STAMINA +20]Energy Rank: 10 ~ 15 OnaGrade: F (Mortal)[Impressive, for a mortal!]Health Points: 100/100Stamina: 120/120Class Abilities: Taxation, Government SpendingOther Abilities: NoneTalent Points: 1Class Talents:Gene Chain[20 Talents not learned!]DNA[20 Talents not learned!]Application[20 Talents not learned!]Reputation:

My mind was blown."Whelp... anyone who's not immortal once the World Tree invades is a dog," I muttered to myself before chuckling at my own joke, coping with the fact that my advanced knowledge had just become significantly less useful.I could be almost certain that, apart from one or two of the stronger Beyond-Grade A supers, nobody from the story would be alive. The next thing that shocked me was my stats, but it wasn't as if I couldn't explain it. I could somewhat guess that my high luck was just a birthright, and I knew for a fact that most of the other stats came from genetic modifications through potions that nobles like him had access to. That didn't make this body—or mind, for that matter—any less impressive compared to my old one.Apart from that, I was pleasantly surprised to still have EXP to spend, likely because my predecessor had been a student until yesterday—and an exceedingly good one at that. Albeit, I had the suspicion that the super-expensive elite school might have had something to do with it as well.He would have likely progressed very rapidly had he taken up the role of Governor, thanks to this excess of EXP.Anyway, it's mine now. I thought as I moved my fingers above the '+' sign and pressed it.Neophyte Esper has been raised to Lv. 2+10 Energy, +1 INT, +1 MYS

+2 unassigned stat points

+1 talent point

Neophyte Esper has been raised to Lv. 10 (Max.)+30 Energy, +1 INT, +1 MYS

+2 unassigned stat points

+1 talent point

In total, I gained 110 Energy, 9 points in INT and MYS, 18 unassigned stat points, and 9 talent points, as raising my main class to its maximum cost me 130,000 EXP.What I found fascinating was how my stat points were distributed. I knew that Black Star, as a Mechanic, gained a point in INT and END respectively. I had no idea what I would get, and even suspected that for Espers, this was decided on a case-by-case basis, depending on their specific ability.Lv. 20 Advancement Mission:Gain 100.000 followers.
