Chapter 1 - Collapse

The battlefield was ablaze with chaos, the air thick with the smell of smoke and sweat. Cannons boomed in the distance, their deafening roars punctuated by the staccato bursts of gunfire. Soldiers clashed in a frenzy of steel and fury, their cries of pain and rage echoing across the scarred landscape. The earth trembled beneath the feet of charging horses, their riders brandishing swords and lances as they plunged into the fray. Amidst the mayhem, commanders bellowed orders, their voices hoarse from shouting above the din. The battle raged on, a maelstrom of violence and bloodlust that seemed to have no end.

Palace's Basement

Princess Xing Yi Nuo's point of view:

I huddled in the corner of the cold, damp basement, my eyes fixed on the faint glow of the torches that lit the dark space. The sounds of war raged above me – the clash of steel, the screams of the wounded, the thunder of hooves. I felt like I was living in a nightmare, one from which I couldn't awaken.

My mother, the queen, sat beside me, her arm wrapped tightly around my shoulders. I could feel her trembling, her fear and worry palpable. I wanted to comfort her, to tell her that everything would be alright, but the words stuck in my throat.

Suddenly, the sound of footsteps echoed through the basement, growing louder with each passing moment. I turned to see one of our loyal attendants, her face etched with worry, hurrying toward us. Her eyes locked onto mine, and I saw a flicker of sadness there, a sense of desperation.

As she approached, I felt my heart sink. What news did she bring? Was it about my father, the king? Was he...?

The attendant dropped to her knees beside me, her voice barely above a whisper. "Your Majesty," she said, addressing my mother, "the king... he's been wounded. The enemy has breached the east wing."

I felt like I'd been punched in the gut. My father, wounded? The enemy, inside the palace? I couldn't bear the thought. A wave of hatred washed over me, directed at the man responsible for this chaos Xie Ju Ju An.

I turned to my mother, seeing the fear and uncertainty etched on her face. I knew that I had to be strong, for her sake, for my father's sake. I took a deep breath, steeling myself for what was to come.

I felt like I was drowning in a sea of despair. This kingdom, this nation and this palace everything I'd ever loved and known was crumbling down in front of me.Suffocating weight of all the disaster was crushing me beneath it's relentless pressure.

Once again there was movement and my mother's royal attendant came inside her chin touching her neck eyes glued to earth as she was wishing to be buried below this palace's ground and I was preparing myself to hear another grave news The attendant's voice trembled as she spoke, her words dropping like stones into the silence. "Your Majesties... I bring grave news. The king... and both princes... they've been martyred in battle."

The basement fell silent, the only sound the soft sobbing of the women. Xing Yi Nuo felt like she'd been punched in the gut, her breath knocked out of her. She stared blankly ahead, her mind reeling with the enormity of the loss.

Her mother, the queen, sat frozen, her face ashen. "No," she whispered, her voice barely audible. "It can't be."

The attendant's face crumpled, tears streaming down her cheeks. "I'm so sorry, Your Majesty. The enemy... they were too strong. Our armies fought bravely, but... they were outnumbered."

Xing Yi Nuo's thoughts swirled in a maelstrom of grief and anger. Her father, her brothers... all gone. The kingdom, lost. She felt like she was drowning in a sea of despair.

The attendant's voice cut through the silence, her words like a cold wind. "The enemy's leader, Xie Ju An... he's declared himself the new king. Our kingdom... it's no more."

The women erupted into wails and sobs, their grief and despair echoing off the cold stone walls. Xing Yi Nuo sat frozen, her heart shattered into a million pieces but not a single tear fell from her eyes. She felt like she was living in a nightmare, one from which she couldn't awaken but everything is meant to be shattered whether this kingdom or her heart!

The attendant's voice was laced with sadness as she continued, "The new king, Xie Ju An, has issued orders. Some of you will be allowed to return to your hometowns, to start anew." She paused, her eyes scanning the room. "Others will remain here, serving the palace and its new rulers."

Yi Nuo's mother, the queen, spoke up, her voice barely above a whisper. "And what of us? What of my daughter and me?"

The attendant's face twisted in a mixture of pity and sorrow. "You and the princess, Your Majesty, will be sent to Your maternal homeland Ting dynasty. You will live out the rest of your days there You will be expected to live simple lives, free from the intrigues and politics of the court. You will not be allowed to bear your titles or claim any royal privilege."

Xing Yi Nuo's mind reeled as she processed the attendant's words. No titles, no privilege, no power but did it matter!! Her father, both of her brothers are gone, her mother the kind yet righteous queen left in this situation. Anyway this palace is not going to be feel home without her family!!

Yi Nuo's thoughts swirled as she tried to comprehend her new reality. Sent away, stripped of her titles and privileges, forced to live a simple life in a distant land. Her mother's homeland, the Ting Dynasty, was a small, peaceful kingdom nestled deep within the mountains.

She remembered stories of the Ting Dynasty's breathtaking landscapes, its rolling hills and sparkling waterfalls. A place where the air was sweet with the scent of blooming flowers, and the people lived in harmony with nature.

But it was also a place of isolation, cut off from the rest of the world by towering mountains that stretched up to the sky like giant sentinels. A place where news traveled slowly, and the outside world seemed distant and unreal.

Xing Yi Nuo felt a pang of sadness as she realized she would never see her homeland again, never walk the familiar streets of the palace or feel the warmth of the sun on her face. She would be a stranger in a strange land, forced to start anew and leave her past behind.

Her mother, the queen, took her hand, her eyes filled with a deep sadness. "We will make a new life there, Yi Nuo," she said softly. "A simpler life, but one filled with peace and beauty."

Yi Nuo nodded, trying to find comfort in her mother's words. But as she looked around the cold, dark basement, she couldn't shake the feeling that she was leaving behind a part of herself, a part that would never be seen again.
