Bryan's POV:
I sat at the dining table checking my phone. I love rereading the texts from my dear Mr Smith. Just thinking how he must be furious brings me peace. If I could I would have just killed him but that's too easy way out for him. I want him to suffer and die each day for what he did to me and my family.
He...that guy whom my dad...
"Bryan!" I heard Mrs Green call out my name.
I looked at her. "Are you ok? Did you not sleep well?" She asked me looking concerned.
"I am fine." I replied rubbing my temples. I don't want to think of that sad memories though I can never forget them, how can one when...Bryan...snap out of it! You have to be strong and your memories are just gonna make you weak!
"Your coffee and newspaper." Mrs Green said placing them on the dining table.
"Thank you." I said opening the newspaper.
"Are you really ok?" She asked again.
"Yeah. I am fine." I replied and forced a smile. I shouldn't make her worry otherwise she will just tell this to grandpa and then he will be worried. I can't make the only family I have to worry about me.
"What is that girl doing?" I asked Mrs Green. I haven't seen her yet.
It's already 8:30 and she should have started her work by 7 or so.
"You mean Mia?" She asked.
"Yes. Who else will I ask about?"
I asked. Isn't it obvious that I will only ask about her? Why is Mrs Green asking me such a question?
"Umm...I think she must be doing something." She said hesitating.
"She is still sleeping, isn't she?" I asked folding the newspaper.
"I will go and wake her up." She said turning to leave.
"Stop. I will wake her up." I said getting up from the chair. She turned around shocked.
"I will do it." She said smiling nervously.
"I won't bully her." I said shaking my head, She smiled nodding her head.
Let me teach her when she should wake up. Does she think this is her daddy's farmhouse? She is a maid here, a maid that I bought! She should remember that! Her door is unlocked. Mrs Green must have unlocked it when she came to wake her up. I knocked on the door. Is she still sleeping?
I opened the door and enter inside. She is sleeping on the torn rug that l asked Mrs Green to leave here to use as her bed. I do pity her, she is paying for what her dad did when she doesn't even know about anything. But she did enjoy a luxurious life with the money that didn't belong to him, at least half of it.
"Hey! Wake up!" I said annoyed.
Just thinking of her dad ruins my mood.
She has her back to me so I can't see her face. But I can hear her breathing. Why does her breathing sound so weird? It's like she is struggling to breathe.
I sat on my knees and turned her shoulder she that she can face me. Shit!!
Why is her face so pale? And she is gasping for air.
"Mia! Wake up!" I shook her shoulders.
No! No! No!
I quickly lift her in my arms and hurried upstairs to my room.
I lay her on my bed as soon as I reached my room and cover her with the blanket.
"Mrs Green!! Mrs Green!!" I shouted at top of my voice and she came running to my room
followed by my assistant Peter.
"Bryan! Are you ok?" She asked me concerned.
"She is not ok." I said pointing to the bed.
She hurried towards Mia and started crying.
"Mr Anderson will be here soon. I told him to hurry up." Peter said I looked at him and nodded.
Jackson Anderson is my friend who is a doctor or you can say who owns the biggest hospital in the city. Why couldn't I think of calling him instead of standing here like a useless statue!
"Mr Miller, you should sit and calm down." Peter said worried.
"She is not fine!" I said clenching my teeth.
"Mr Miller, drink some water and calm down. You are shaking." He said holding a glass of water towards me.
I didn't realise I was shaking. I never thought I will find Mia in this condition. I know I was such a mean jerk to her and I bullied her but I don't want her to die! How can I even think something like that! She is important to me! I can't see her in pain even now just like how I couldn't see her in pain when we were kids. How did this happen? How did she end up being in this situation?
"Bryan!" I heard a familiar voice as Jackson stormed into my room.
He looked at me and sighed a sigh of relief.
"Are you ok? What happened?" He asked catching his breath. I suppose he ran all his way here.
"I got this call from your assistant saying to hurry here because it's an emergency but you look fine to me." He said confused. I went and grabbed his shoulders.
He is finally here!
"She is not ok!" I said suddenly panicking more than before.
"Who? Mrs Green?" He asked and looked around spotting Mrs Green still crying.
"Her!" I pointed to the bed.
His eyes grew wide in shock which I am pretty sure was due to seeing a girl in my bed.
"Let me check." He said walking towards the bed, his shock now replaced by professional air.
He looked at her and said, "I would have to ask all of you to leave the room."
"I am not going anywhere!" I exclaimed.
He looked at Peter for help because he knows how stubborn I am.
Peter came to me. "Mr Miller, I think it's good to wait outside and let Dr Anderson do his job." Peter said trying to convince me.
I looked at Jackson and he nodded his head clearly signalling that he won't start examining her until I go out. I huffed and left the room in anger.
Mrs Green started praying while Peter just stood there with his head down. And I was panicking not because I thought that her
father might try to get me arrested if his daughter died but because I really care about Mia. Yes, I hate her dad but I don't hate her. I can't hate her. Even if we are strangers now but we once knew each other, she can forget me but I can't forget her. I can never forget her. I started pacing in the hallway trying to calm myself down. I have never been this anxious ever in my life.
Finally, Jackson came out.
"How is she? Is she ok?" I asked him anxiously.
"She is stable now and she will be up and about after resting for a day or two." He replied to my relief. I felt as if my soul has returned to my body.
"What was wrong with her?" Mrs Green asked.
"She had a hypersensitivity reaction to dust and because it was really severe she had an asthma attack. That's why she was gasping for air. Did she have such episodes before?" Jackson asked me.
"I don't know..but I don't think she has asthma. I mean if she did then there would have been an inhaler with her. No, she doesn't have asthma." I tried remembering if I saw her using an inhaler.
If she was an asthma patient then she would have got an attack when she was brought here or when she was being auctioned, those were such distressful situations and it would have triggered an attack.
"I guess it must be due to her dust allergy then." Jackson said and I looked at him.
Yes! Yesterday when I went to wake her up she had a cloth piece tied to cover her nose and she was sneezing too. How could I be so stupid and not notice that?!
"So, who is she?" Jackson asked me curiously.
"Mrs Green, get her room cleaned thoroughly and get a bed for her.
Just get everything she might need Mae that room liveable." I said looking at Mrs Green, She nodded her head and left.
"I am still waiting for an answer."
Jackson said. "I am going to see her. Peter see off Jackson for me, please." I said entering the room.
"Hey! Are you really gonna be like this to your buddy? Bryan!" I heard Jackson shout as I closed the door.
I know I have a lot of explaining to do but right now I am so exhausted. I know Peter will give some excuse for my behaviour so that Jackson doesn't get angry at me.
I rubbed my forehead. I never thought I will be acting this way after how stone-hard I made my heart into.
I walked up to Mia and sat on the bed looking at her. She is fine. She is really fine...
I grabbed her hand. Her hand seems so fragile. She still looks so delicate just how she was back then.
