Chapter 14 - Chapter 14: The Reckoning of Souls

In the deepest corner of the palace, far away from prying eyes, Queen Veliean stood cloaked in shadows, her fingers tracing the air as she whispered incantations only the ancient forces could understand. Her power pulsed, reaching through unseen barriers, searching. She was trying to connect with someone—someone who held a truth buried in secrecy. She knew she couldn't let anyone know what she was doing, not even King Blaze. This was her burden alone to bear.

Far away, Pearl's frustration was reaching its breaking point. She had been trapped in this unknown place for days, each moment feeding into her growing anxiety. She didn't know where she was or why Miraculas refused to take her back. But no matter how many times she demanded to return to Damsel, his answer remained the same.

"No."

It was always just that—no explanations, no reassurances, just a simple, unwavering refusal.

The weight of her helplessness crushed her. Her patience shattered like glass. Consumed by desperation, Pearl stormed towards Miraculas without warning. Her entire being crackled with untamed energy as she lashed out, attacking him with power she neither understood nor controlled. The force of her own abilities shocked even her.

Miraculas stumbled back from the impact but swiftly regained his stance. His eyes darkened, and with a swift motion of his hand, he countered her attack—not with the intention to harm but to contain her rage. The power struck her, sending her collapsing onto her knees. Tears blurred her vision as she clutched her chest, sobbing uncontrollably.

"I just want to see Ambrose," she whispered, her voice breaking, her heart aching. "I need to see him."

Miraculas stood silently, watching her crumble before him. He knew the risk of what he was about to do. The balance of their world was already fracturing, and her reunion with Ambrose could either mend it—or bring forth absolute ruin.

After what felt like an eternity, he finally spoke.

"You can meet him," he said, his voice measured, "but only on one condition—you must first learn to control your power and how to wield it."

Pearl didn't hesitate. "I'll do it," she said, determination replacing her grief.

To Miraculas' surprise, it took Pearl less than a week to master what should have taken years. It was as if she had been born knowing how to control it, as if power itself recognized her as its true vessel. The realization sent a shiver down Miraculas' spine. Something far greater than any of them was at play.

And then, the day arrived.

Pearl stepped into Damsel.

Her breath hitched as devastation swallowed her whole. The kingdom that once shone like a celestial dream was now in ruins. The air reeked of sorrow, of destruction, of something irreversibly broken.

Tears welled in her eyes. This is my fault.

But she didn't let her grief consume her. She took a deep breath, wiped away her tears, and raised her hands. Chanting an incantation that came to her like second nature, she poured every ounce of her essence into the shattered land.

A pulse of light surged from her, cascading across the kingdom like a tide. The ruins trembled, then began to rebuild. The land healed. The once-wilting flora bloomed with renewed life. The creatures of Damsel, who had only known despair, now stood in awe, their eyes gleaming with hope and gratitude.

Pearl turned, only to find Queen Veliean standing there, arms open in welcome. But the only person she longed to see was nowhere in sight.

"Where's Ambrose?" Pearl asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

Queen Veliean sighed. "He's in his castle," she admitted, sorrow thick in her tone. "Barely surviving. No one is allowed near him."

Before Veliean could finish, Pearl was already running.

She burst through the grand doors of Ambrose's castle, her heart hammering. The moment she stepped inside, she felt it—the suffocating darkness of his energy, the unbearable weight of his suffering.

And then, without warning, a powerful force slammed into her.

Pearl was thrown across the room, crashing into the cold marble floor. Pain shot through her body, but it was nothing compared to the shock in her heart. She barely had time to catch her breath before her eyes landed on him.

Ambrose.

He was on his knees, gasping for air, his form even paler than before. His chest heaved as he looked up—and then he froze.

Their eyes met.

Disbelief flickered across his exhausted features. His lips parted as if to speak, but his body betrayed him. He tried to move, tried to reach for her, but his strength failed him.

Pearl, shaking from both the attack and relief, forced herself up and stumbled toward him. Without hesitation, she wrapped her arms around him, pulling him into a desperate embrace.

Their lockets glowed.

A radiant energy erupted from them, illuminating the entire castle. The sheer force of it surged through Ambrose, his weakened body unable to withstand its overwhelming power. His limbs trembled, his skin burned, and the balance of energy within him spiraled out of control.

Pearl realized the danger instantly. Without thinking, she cupped his face and pressed her lips to his.

The moment they connected, everything stilled.

The storm inside Ambrose calmed. The chaotic energy that had threatened to consume him now flowed into him seamlessly, restoring him. When she pulled away, his eyes opened—no longer clouded with agony, but glistening with something else entirely.

For the first time in his existence, the Devil Prince had tears in his eyes.

"I tried to harm you again " he whispered, guilt seeping into every syllable.

Pearl let out a soft, shaky laugh, brushing her fingers against his cheek. "Then consider this my punishment for attacking you before."

Ambrose didn't answer.

Instead, he kissed her again—this time with raw, unguarded passion. A silent confession, a vow, an unbreakable bond forged in love, pain, and destiny.

As their lips met, Ambrose's eyes glowed, an ethereal blue radiating with something far more powerful than love.

Something that would change everything.
