Nights on the Hudson River always carried a breathtaking beauty. On the deck of the yacht, the crystal chandelier gently swayed in the breeze, reflecting a bright light.Amber Benson stood by the side of the boat, a pure white wedding dress in the moonlight with a pearl-like luster. She looked down at the champagne glass in her hand, the bubbles in the glass slowly rose, like her mood at this moment, full of uneasiness and doubt.
"Amber, honey, are you okay?" Jared's voice came from behind her, gentle and concerned. He was wearing a well-tailored black tuxedo, and his handsome face looked stunning in the light.
Amber turned around and managed to squeeze out a small smile. "I'm fine, just a little tired."
Jared stepped forward and gently wrapped his arm around her waist, whispering low in her ear, "Tonight is our engagement party, you should be happy. Everyone is celebrating you."
Amber nodded, but her gaze drifted involuntarily into the distance. Her best friend, Lila, was standing at the bar, wearing a deep red backless dress, a glass of red wine in her hand, and smiling brightly as she talked to a few guests.Lila's beauty always shone so brightly, as if she was born to be in the spotlight.A sudden, inexplicable pang of sadness welled up in Amber's heart.
"Jared," Amber said softly, "have you ever felt that ...Lila has been a little strange lately?"
Jared's body stiffened slightly, but he quickly regained his composure. "Strange? No, hasn't she always been like that? Lively, cheerful, always driving the mood."
Amber frowned and didn't say anything more. She knew she was probably being paranoid, but that uneasy feeling lingered.
Just then, the yacht's engine suddenly let out a low rumble, and the boat shook slightly.Amber subconsciously grabbed Jared's arm. "What's going on?"
Jared smiled and patted the back of her hand soothingly. "Don't worry, it's probably a small engine problem. I'll go check it out, you wait here for me."
Amber nodded and watched Jared leave. Her gaze fell on Lila again, only to find Lila watching Jared's back with a complicated look. There seemed to be a hint of ... jealousy mixed in that look?
Amber's heart sank hard. She suddenly remembered the note she found in Jared's suit pocket a few days ago, which read "See you tonight at the usual place", the handwriting was scribbled but familiar. She didn't think much of it at the time, but now that she thought back, the handwriting was clearly Lila's.
Her fingers unconsciously clenched the hem of her wedding dress, her fingertips turning slightly white. Just then, a pungent smell of gasoline suddenly drilled into her nostrils.Amber jerked her head up to find a thick plume of smoke rising from the direction of the cabin.
"Fire!" Someone screamed.
The deck was an instant mess as guests ran around in panic.Amber stood still, her mind blank. Her eyes searched the crowd for Jared, but all she could see was Lila taking the hand of one of the waiters and hurrying in the direction of the lifeboats.
"Jared!" shouted Amber, but her voice was drowned out by the noise around her. The smoke was getting thicker, the fire was spreading rapidly, and the temperature on the deck was rising dramatically.
Just then, a loud bang came from the direction of the cabin and the yacht's engine exploded. The massive impact toppled Amber to the ground, and she hit her head hard on the deck, her eyes blacking out. She struggled to get up, but realized her wedding dress had been set ablaze by the flames.
"Help ..." Amber's voice was so weak she could barely hear it. Her vision began to blur, and the only sounds left in her ears were the crackling of burning flames and the screams of people.
At the last moment of unconsciousness, her hand touched the photo in the pocket of her wedding dress - the intimate photo she had inadvertently taken of Jared and Lila in their hotel room. The edges of the photo had been scorched by the flames, but the smiles of the two were still clearly visible.
A bitter smile pulled at the corner of Amber's mouth, and tears slid down her cheeks. She finally realized that this engagement party was nothing more than an elaborate scam. She, on the other hand, was just a pawn in this game.
"If there's an afterlife ..." Amber muttered, her fingers clenching the photo in a death grip, "I'm going to make you pay ... "
Flames engulfed her vision as the icy waters of the Hudson River swept her into the abyss. The yacht burned in the night sky like a giant blood-colored rose, blossoming with a final poignant beauty.
