The moment she raised her hand to show me her ring, I felt my heart shatter.
I wanted to speak; I wanted to scream, yell! But I held my tongue. I turned to leave, but she yelled again.
"And wait!" I paused. This time, I didn't turn back to them.
"You're also leaving," she said. I frowned, finally turning to her, taken aback.
"Right now?" I asked, wondering how heartless and cruel she could be.
Nora clearly knew I had nowhere to go, yet she had the audacity to tell me I would be leaving.
"First you cheat on me, then you serve me divorce papers, and as if that's not enough, you're asking me to leave?"
"Yes! And you will leave right now!" I turned back quickly as I heard Mrs. Thompson approach us.
She smiled at Nora, who slowly put on her robe. Hans leaned back as if watching an interesting scene unfold.
I shut my eyes in annoyance because I knew things would only escalate while Mrs. Thompson was there. This can't be happening.
"I hope you're not refusing to leave. We've clearly had enough of your uselessness in this house. Get the hell away from this family so we can have our peace!"
For the first time ever, I felt utterly helpless, knowing I had nowhere to go. I had no money, and I was struggling with a job that barely paid me.
I turned to Nora, who had just approached us, closing the door behind her and leaving Hans inside.
"So this is what you want, after everything?" I asked, recalling the day I lost one of my kidneys to her.
It was a year after our marriage when she fell seriously ill and needed a kidney transplant. Without a second thought, I donated my kidney to her, keeping her alive today. That's what men do for women they love; they sacrifice anything, even their lives. It doesn't have to be money.
"I'm sorry, Ethan. I can't continue down this path with you," she said, her expression blank.
I smiled bitterly, nodding my head in realization.
I turned around to go to my room so that i could back my belongings. Because i couldn't argue more, they had made their decision, and i had to leave. afterall there was nothing more i could do.
——-
A few moments later, I came out with a bag full of my clothes and other important things i needed.
Hans was already out, dressed in a sky blue shirt and black pants that looked a bit rumpled due to what ever had happened between him and Nora.
I driffed my gaze to Nora, i wanted to see a glimpse of remorse, pity. But i got none, instead, her eyes was fixed on her phone as she scrolled through it.
"Here is the divorce paper!"Mrs. Thompson said, handing the envelope to me.
I halted, glancing at the envelope, i dropped my bag down, taking the pen and envelope from her to sign it, And within a few seconds, I was done.
I handed the paper back to Mrs Thompson who had a smile on her face. an amused one. i glanced at Nora one last time. She was now staring at me, but there was still no sign of remorse. Hans leaned in and planted a kiss on her forehead, turning to eye me.
i smirked. And with a nod, i left...
------
I walked out of the mansion, turning back to take a last glance. I could feel tears prick at the corner of my eyes.
No! Don't cry Ethan, you'll surely become someone someday.
You'll be so rich, You'll run the world and every everyone in it. Making the Thompsons pay for what they did to you. They'll all regret their actions, pleading for your mercy… Someday. I promise….
(Giggling and whisperering)
I drifted my gaze to three of the gate guard heading towards me. Swinging their batons lazily.
Two were behind one, whispering and giggling. While the one in front focused on me. Although he also had an amused smirk on his lips.
"I guess they finally threw you out. Poor thing, now you would have to sleep on the streets because it's clear you have nowhere to stay. huh?" The one at the front said, turning back to glance at the other two guards.
I clutched my bag tightly. A way of suppressing my anger as i walked past them but something pulled me back.
I frowned, turning to find one of the guards holding onto my bag.
"Hey! Didn't you hear my question?"
I shut my eyes, trying to hold in the rage, Anger boiling through my veins.
"Let go, Now!" I ordered, my voice firm.
They exchanged amused glances, turning back to me.
"Or what?"
Oh God! Not again!
