Chapter 1 - first kiss

It was eleven o'clock at night, and due to the extreme cold, a dense fog had spread all around. Somewhere on Mussoorie Road, a few kilometers away from Dehradun, Uttarakhand, a girl named Anokhi was running frantically down the deserted road, dressed as a bride.

Draped in a red bridal lehenga, with deep blue eyes and light brown hair, she looked nothing less than an ethereal beauty as she ran through the streets. Due to her fast-paced sprint, her dupatta had slipped from her head, resting on her shoulders, while her neatly styled hair had come undone. The jasmine garland that adorned her hair had loosened, hanging down to her shoulders. The moonlight of the cold winter night enhanced her already radiant, makeup-clad face, making her look even more breathtaking.

However, her expression was one of sheer terror. She kept glancing back repeatedly because a group of dangerous goons was chasing her.

At that very moment, dark clouds covered the sky, completely veiling the moon, plunging the night into an even deeper darkness. Desperate to escape her pursuers, Anokhi took a sudden turn and entered a graveyard, hoping to hide. The goons searched the area for some time, but when they couldn't spot her, one of them scoffed,

"She disappeared so fast… Looks like she ran far ahead. Damn, she's insanely beautiful. She shouldn't slip from our hands!"

With that, they hurried ahead, leaving the graveyard behind.

Meanwhile, inside the graveyard, Anokhi found herself surrounded by countless graves, making her even more anxious. Looking around nervously, she muttered to herself,

"W-What is this? I ran into a graveyard to escape those goons! What now, Anokhi? If I go out, they'll catch me again, and if I stay here, ghosts might get me. I swear, whoever named me 'Anokhi' doomed me to have the weirdest problems ever!"

Mumbling to herself, she paced back and forth before deciding,

"You know what? I'll stay here. At least it's safer than facing those monsters outside. Honestly, these days, humans are more dangerous than ghosts."

With that, she ventured deeper into the cemetery and eventually climbed onto a large stone to sit down. Just then, a loud bolt of lightning flashed across the sky, sending chills down her spine. Hugging herself for warmth, she shivered and thought,

"What have I gotten myself into? If I step outside, those goons will get me, and if I stay here, these graves alone are enough to give me a heart attack. And to top it off, even the weather seems to be trying to scare me!"

As she scanned her surroundings, her gaze suddenly fell on a coffin lying right in front of her. It was surrounded by white flowers that gave off a strangely alluring fragrance. Drawn by their intoxicating scent, she found herself unable to resist as she walked toward the coffin.

By now, the weather had turned even more eerie, with occasional flashes of lightning illuminating the graveyard in ghostly bursts. As she stepped closer, she realized that the coffin was massive and half-buried in the soil. However, what unsettled her was that no soil had been placed on top of it yet—it was left open to the air.

Seeing this, Anokhi frowned and whispered,

"What the hell? Why is this coffin still above ground? Why hasn't it been buried yet?"

Curiosity got the better of her as she took another cautious step forward. But as soon as she peered inside, her breath hitched in shock.

Beneath the glass cover of the coffin lay the statue of a young man—an eerily beautiful sculpture carved from stone. The sight sent shivers down her spine, and she muttered,

"A statue? In a coffin? And why does it look so... alive? It's so stunning, as if he might just wake up any second and whisper, 'Darling, I love you.'"

Her own words made her giggle, but her laughter soon faded as she stared at the statue again. A strange sense of connection stirred within her heart.

As she stood there, lost in thought, a chilling voice suddenly echoed from within the coffin—

"Help me…"

Anokhi gasped, stumbling back in terror. Her heart pounded in her chest, and the constant rumbling of thunder only intensified her fear. For a few moments, she sat frozen, staring wide-eyed at the coffin.

But as time passed and nothing else happened, she tried to reassure herself.

"Maybe… Maybe I imagined it. There's no way someone inside a coffin would call for help, right?"

Shaking her head, she took a deep breath to calm herself. But just as she turned her gaze back to the coffin, an eerie, invisible energy radiated from it and seeped into her. Anokhi's body went stiff, and within moments, she was completely entranced.

Now utterly spellbound, she stood motionless as the voice echoed once again—

"Please help me… Free me from this coffin…"

Under the influence of this mysterious force, Anokhi moved forward, her hands trembling as she touched the lid of the coffin. The moment she lifted it open, the sky roared with thunder, and a sudden downpour began.

As the rainwater splashed onto the stone statue, it began to glisten, its beauty becoming even more mesmerizing.

Then, as if compelled by an unseen force, Anokhi leaned closer—until her lips brushed against those of the statue.

The instant their lips met, a deafening clap of thunder rang through the air, jolting Anokhi out of her trance. Gasping in shock, she staggered back, her mind reeling.

"W-What the hell am I doing?! Why did I open the coffin? And why was I… so close to that statue? Something is definitely wrong here. I need to leave. Now."

Determined to escape, she turned to run. But just as she took a step, her foot slipped on the wet ground, sending her crashing—right on top of the stone figure inside the coffin.

But the strangest thing? Even though she had fallen directly onto the hard statue, she didn't feel any pain. Instead, it felt as if she had landed on the body of a living, breathing man.

A cold shiver ran down her spine. Her pulse raced as she tried to scramble away, but before she could, a horrifying transformation began.

Right beneath her, the stone statue started shifting, its rigid form softening, its color changing.

Before her very eyes, the lifeless sculpture turned into a real, flesh-and-blood man.

Everything happened so fast that Anokhi barely had time to react. And before she could scream, the man wrapped his strong arms around her, pulling her tightly against him.

A terrified gasp escaped her lips. But before she could struggle, he captured her mouth in a deep, intoxicating kiss.

Anokhi writhed in his grasp, desperately trying to break free. But the more she struggled, the tighter his hold became.

Who was he?

What was the mystery behind the coffin and the statue?

Had Anokhi unknowingly awakened a vampire—one that would now never let her go?
