"how dare you you imbecile" Keziah shouted as she threw the broken shards of the plates at the little bony malnourished girl whose only option was to force herself to run in order to escape a gruesome injury. "I'm sorry aunt... It was a mistake". "you insolent child... You broke my plate and you're calling it a mistake?" she pounced on her and gave a harsh slap... The little girl was brown skinned and yet the slap left a visible red mark on her swollen cheek and tears streamed down her face. "I'm sorry". "is sorry going to fix the plate?". She gave her another slap and dragged her the the basement. She grabbed the collar of the girl's already tattered clothes and forced her to faced her, "this is precisely why your mother left you... Because you are a good for nothing". With that, she threw the girl into a dark room and locked it. "no food for you for a week and only a glass of water a day". That was the last thing she said and left the girl in the room, tired, hungry and depressed.
Sonya Dayila is an orphan who lives with her aunt, Keziah Dayila. It is said that her parents were adventurous and too much in love that, when Sonya was born, they saw her as a nuisance... A hindrance to their love... They felt that Sonya would take part of their love each, and the live they would have for eachother would fade. Since they don't want this to happen, they left Sonya by Keziah's door and eloped to live their own life... Well, let's say that was what Sonya was told by her aunt
The room was very dark, with nothing but only a faint moonlight coming from a crack on the wall. The floor was cold and there was nothing she could cover herself with to block out the cold. She grabbed the small can at the corner of the room and turned it over to stand on it.
This was nothing new, every time something goes wrong, her aunt locks her there, and every time she's there she scrapes the wall little by little with a small knife she always keeps on her, hoping that maybe, just maybe, a block would come off. She stabbed the small crack with light seeping through and continued to scratch and hit it. As if the heavens heard her cry, after hours of scratching, finally, a block fell off, dragging another two down with it. For the first time in forever, a bright smile appeared on Sonya's lips as she fit her head through the hole first. Thank God she was malnourished... She fit perfectly in it. She slipped right through it and landed in a tunnel. We'll she should have expected that, since she was locked in a basement age almost went back, but her determination to leave over threw her doubt of escaping and fear of being caught. She decided to keep on going until she found an opening, and if she didn't, she would dig herself up if that's what it'll take.
She walked for miles three hours had gone by, and still nothing... She almost gave up but then suddenly, a small ray of light shone over her and she looked up to see something like a door above her and right under the door was a ladder leading to it... She smiled in satisfaction and climbed it. Lucky for her, the door was opened and she crowled through it, enjoying the breeze of freedom with happiness written all over her.
Quickly she dragged the ladder from the hole and placed it on the closed door. The she gathered stones, sand and leaves and covered the door before releasing a sigh of relief. This looked like a whole new town, and she was going to begin a whole new life here.
