There was an endless star-speckled canvas stretching out in every corner without any bounds or edges. The universe stretched out punctuated by swirling galaxies and the occasional, majestic supernova which happened more often than one would think.
Anyone else would have been enthralled by this fairytale like scene, unfortunately the only person watching couldn't care less.
Fu Ling watched indifferently as another comet whizzed past by. It is unknown whether he was born indifferent or has just gotten used to the scenery. Fu Ling walked to a chair and sat down then waved his hand and a transparent panel appeared in front of him. After many years of being forced to do taks by the thing which called itself system, he was finally free. Fu Ling was extremely dissatisfied with this thing that took him away without permission or prior notice but he also knew that he couldn't do anything hasty so he just did everything he was told obediently. After planning for so long, his efforts finally paid off and he regained his freedom.
Fu Ling was a one in a thousand year genius and had been held in high regard by the whole nation for as long as he could remember. With his efforts, the 21st century had become more and more like the imaginary interstellar era. Civilization had come a long way thanks to him. But there was always two sides of the coin. While most were happy about this development, some were not. While working on an experiment, his lab unexpectedly exploded.
He has long since realized some people were dissatisfied with him and had taken precautions in advance. The explosion would have at most cause some minor injuries and with the advancement of medical technology, he would definitely have been fine. But for some reason, after waking up he found himself in this unfamiliar place with a thing called the system telling him to do tasks and he would be punished when he didn't oblige. Left with no other choice, he could only do as the system said while bidding his time.
In the course of doing tasks, Fu Ling had discovered that the system seemed to be looking for something in these worlds or rather the person the system works for. After gaining control of the system and going through it's database, he realized his guess was right but still slightly off. It wasn't something but someone. Apparently, there was someone called the lord god who ruled over all the worlds. This powerful person was however obsessed with finding someone. They call him Chaos. From the look of things, he was a close confidant who betrayed the lord god and injured him then escaped into various small worlds. He also split his soul into several pieces making it even more difficult to locate.
With Fu Ling's experience however, he was certain this story is filled with half truths and half lies. Their actions of casually kidnapping and forcing people to work have already left a bad impression on him.
He was already bound to be on opposing sides with the said lord god. This Chaos however, piqued his interest. As someone who was once the closest to the most powerful person ever and was now a fugitive, Fu Ling can't help but feel curious about his thoughts concerning the whole thing.
He waved his hand and the panel showed up again. In his opinion, a person could only hide when he knew someone was looking. No one would guard against something they were not expecting. Chaos didn't want to be found by the lord god but Fu Ling wasn't the lord god. At this time, the whole system program had already been changed by him and had nothing to do with the so called lord god anymore. He searched for a while and after comparing the soul attributes in the system database to various small worlds, he finally found his target.
A small smile of victory played on his lips.
"Found you."
Fu Ling waved his arm and the panel vanished again. He raised his eyes and scanned the surroundings again then called out in his mind.
"System"
There was a slight beep and a glowy white ball like thing appeared in his mind.
"Hello master."
A small smile spread on Fu Ling's lips. He never thought this arrogant thing could be so respectful.
"You can just call me Fu Ling."
"Yes, Fu Ling."
"You will handle our trips from now on. I'll have to rely on you."
"Yes, Fu Ling "
He couldn't bring the panel out all the time. It would make him seem crazy to be waving his arms about randomly. Besides, what if someone was able to see it. He wouldn't be able to explain why he had an invisible panel or how he got it. He was planning to be low-key, exposing himself wasn't on the agenda.
Besides, he had always followed the principle of 'better safe than sorry' and it was the same now. The system had already been completely formatted and reprogrammed. He only needed to give his orders and it would do his wish.
"Send me to the small world."
He had already set up the coordinates in advance. The only thing was that he couldn't figure out how to initiate the transfer. That was the only reason he worked so hard on formatting the system even after getting control of the panel. He had figured out that the transfer might somehow be linked to the system so he put in that extra work and managed to finally clean up the system.
"Transfer starting in 3-2-1"
Fu Ling felt a huge suction pulling him in and closed his eyes. When he felt like everything had settled, he opened his eyes and scanned the surroundings.
This was a simply furnished room. Apart from the large bed and some tables and chairs, there was a huge flat screen television hanging on the wall and numerous pictures of various sizes plastered all over the room. The only thing these pictures had in common was that there was the same face on them. No doubt belonging to the original owner of the room. Narcissistic much?
"System what's the plot of this world?"
This process had repeated itself several times but this was the first time Fu Ling was so relaxed. Although he didn't have any expectations, at least he was free. Unexpectedly a bunch of information poured into his mind. Fu Ling raised a brow and had to stop himself from laughing angrily. So it wasn't that the system never had access to this information but it just didn't want to disclose it. Fu Ling clicked his tongue a few times and decided to go wash his face while going through the information in his head. Unexpectedly the moment his legs touched the floor, he felt a searing pain deep in his bones. He lifted the pyjama and realized one of his legs was wrapped tightly in a cast. Fu Ling only had one word in his heart. "Fuck!"
