Finally!
This was one small step for man, one massive leap for me!
Absorb! Absorb right away!
Following my demands, the whitish-blue marble with the number 3 on it flew through the air. It collided with my body, assimilating with it right away.
OOOM!
A wave of power washed over my mind, improving my Mind Strength and Mind Strength Control ever so slightly. But more importantly, it completed the final piece of my 15-year-long puzzle.
[Acquired +3 Mind Attribute]
[Mind: 1000]
[You have successfully completed your 1st Main Quest! At least you're not a total letdown!]
[Now, would you like your reward!?]
"Yes," I answered, on the verge of leaping up in joy. "Wait, I can't do that anyway…"
[What do we say when we want something? You know the secret word.]
"...."
I went silent, my broad smile thinning out. "We're really doing this?" I asked, a vein popping up on my shadowed face. "Now of all times? Really??"
[There's never not a time to utilize proper manners, Dear Host!]
"Is there ever a time when I feel like your digital emoticon face would look better without my fist in it?" I asked, all smiles.
[Hey, I'm the one making the jokes here! ( •̀ - •́ )]
[Don't be rude! Just say it!]
I wanted to continue defying my sh*tty System, but seeing as I really wanted to get all this over and done with, I succumbed.
"Fine," I said. "Pl… Please, will you give me my reward…?"
[Well, since you're asking so nicely~]
[Also, I have no power that lets me control whether or not you receive the rewards that you've earned~ Teehee~]
"You motherfuc—"
Before I could get out those words I so very much wanted to say, a System Notification rang out. One that I had been waiting to receive the benefits of for hundreds of thousands of years. Across hundreds upon hundreds of lifetimes.
*Ding!!*
[You have received a 'Full Body Reconstruction']
[Would you like to use 'Full Body Reconstruction' right now?] - [Y/N]
I answered Yes faster than my mind could formulate a thought!
Fortunately, just my intent was sufficient for the Attribute Farming System to go through with the Full Body Reconstruction.
[Commencing Full Body Reconstruction!]
[In 10 seconds, you will enter a System-induced coma that will leave you out of commission for the better part of a day!]
[10, 9, 8, duh, duh, duh, 3, 2, 1, ready set Go…!]
What sort of stupida*s counting was that—
Before I could finish my complaint, I was forced into a deep sleep. I didn't appear much different from normal, but my heartbeat had definitely stopped.
However, there was no way that'd create a problem, right?
Right…?
*Huf—!*
When I awoke, I found myself in a dark, enclosed space. I couldn't see anything, for there was no light. However, what I could discern from the airflow was that the space I was in was very small. If I had functioning legs, I'd for sure be complaining about the lack of legroom.
"Where am I?" I thought to myself as my eyes darted all around. "This certainly isn't my room. But if it's not my room, why am I here? I'm a cripple. Except for when I'm carried to and fro to the shitter to grace the sewage pipes with my big pipes, I never move places."
What confused me most of all was why the faint scent of burned incense was assaulting my nostrils.
Was someone burning incense around me? But why?
"Oh shit… It can't be!"
As a lightbulb flashed within my mind, I realized right then and there what was happening.
"I'm dead," I said softly, my complexion as pale as that of a ghost. "Well, not technically dead. But I'm sure as hell at my own funeral and lying down in a coffin!"
I could piece together how I got here just based on the fact that my heart had not been beating for nearly an entire day—
"Wait!" I suddenly exclaimed, shaking the coffin around. "The Full Body Reconstruction! Was it a success!?"
What was I saying!? Of course it was a success! How else would I be moving around as I was right now!?
"I can move my hands," I said, my voice emulating the purest form of joy. "My fingers, my toes, even my nose! I can move it all! I'm no longer a cripple!"
*Bam!*
In my excitement, I leaned up and hit my head against the coffin's lid. The lid slid off and hit the ground with a loud, echoing thud.
Slowly turning my head to the left, I saw dozens of people seated on velvet leather chairs. The people wore all black, and though only a few of them were crying, the air in the room was very melancholic.
"Well, this is awkward," I said with a crooked smile. "Why are you all staring at me as if you've just seen a ghost? Awed by my handsomeness, perhaps?"
"The Eldest Young Master is alive! And he's moving! Oh my God! It's a miracle!!"
Well, this was going to be fun to explain…
