Mara approached the police officer and the man in handcuffs, her face laced with curiosity.
"Well, you can ask her," Daniel said quickly, relief washing over him. "She's my lawyer... and my wife's friend." He just hoped Mara wouldn't refuse to help him.
The officer turned to her. "Ma'am, do you know this man?"
Mara folded her arms. "Yes," she said, waiting to hear what he had done this time. She might even send him to jail if it was bad enough.
"He was in a fight," the officer explained. "No ID, no papers. Claims he lost them. He gave us a number he said it belongs to his wife but no one's picking up."
Mara smirked, relieved. Maria hadn't answered his calls. She was finally learning to be strong though she wasn't surprised he was in a fight.
"I know him, Officer," she said, pulling out her card and handing it over.
