Chereads / Undefined: Ashes and Echoes / Chapter 10 - Almost

Chapter 10 - Almost

You held me like a house half-built,

Shelter in the frame, but the walls stayed thin.

Every word was a candle lit,

Burning at the edges, never warming within.

Oh, you tried like a river tries to hold the rain,

Like a spark that fades before it turns to flame.

And I tried to believe that love could make it right, But wanting was never enough this time.

Oh, we were almost, almost something true,

Almost fire, almost light breaking through.

But your hands couldn't hold what I needed them to, And love, I couldn't change you.

You spoke in a voice soft as snow,

Melting in my hands, slipping through my hold.

You meant every promise, I know you did,

But meaning and keeping don't always fit.

Oh, I waited like the shore waits for the tide,

For a love that could stay, not just pass me by.

And you stood like a ghost in the open door,

Wanting to stay but built to go.

Oh, we were almost, almost something true,

Almost fire, almost light breaking through.

But your hands couldn't hold what I needed them to, And love, I couldn't change you.

I don't curse your name, I don't wish you pain,

Some hearts just don't beat in time the same.

Maybe in another life, in another way,

But not this time, not today.

Oh, we were almost, almost something true,

Almost fire, almost light breaking through.

But love, if I've learned anything from you,

It's that almost will never do.

You tried your best, I know you did,

But meaning and keeping don't always fit.
