Chapter 1 - Chapter 1 - Chu Huan Feng, the doctor

"Slurp!"

"Aah this tea feels so refreshing after spending the entire day in the library just studying."

A scholar looking kid with shoulder length hair and round glasses sitting on his nose was sipping tea on a small roadside restaurant cum inn. A large clothe stack was placed on his table. From the outer structure, it looked like it was contained a lot of books.

The restaurant cum inn looked deserted with the last customer having left almost an hour ago. The atmosphere was extremely eerie. Fog was slowly but steadily taking over the area around the restaurant. But this was an every day occurrence in this place.

The waiter cleaned up a table and made his way to kid who was the only customer left at.

"Kid, the restaurant will be closing within half an hour. Do you want to book a room to stay overnight?"

"Gulp, Gulp, Gulp!" - within a few breaths, the kid drank all of the remaining tea.

"No mister, I will be travelling ahead."

The waiter's showed a surprised expression. Not because the kid had refused to stay at the inn, but because he was travelling ahead into the forest instead of going back to the town.

"What!? You want to travel ahead? Into the Black forest at this hour? Does you realise the danger of go-"

The kid raised his hand with authority which made the waiter stop his in the middle of his talk

He then raised his right leg vertically and slammed it onto the table with a bang. Palm of the left hand rested on his heart. Eyes full of courage and emotion, staring at the sky, he blurted out

"Waiter, Listen carefully to what I say."

"As a man, you always have to keep moving forward. Even if it means certain death! Otherwise you are denying yourself an opportunity to greatness."

"What the fuck does that mean scholar boy?"

"An ugly frog in the well will never understand the vastness of heavens."

Is the kid right in his head? Did he read some weird novel? I feel bad for his parents.

"Stop wasting my time!. If you don't have anything else to order, then I suggest you pay your bill and head back to the town. The guards will close the gate after sunset."

"No I will keep moving forward!"

"Do as you wish, I don't care anymore. Also when you raised your leg, your pants tore a hole."

The kid immediately brought down his leg.

"Waiter! Pack me 5 servings of pork ribs and a full gourd of alcohol!"

"Brat, you already have this huge clothe stack. Will you be able to carry a gourd?"

The kid did not answer the question, instead he threw a silver coin at the waiter.

"Keep the change."

The waiter caught the silver coin with surprise and stared at it for a second.

"Give me a moment. I'll be back", the waiter said and went inside his kitchen.

Inside the kitchen, the waiter took out silver and stared at it again, this time however his mouth was shaped like crescent moon. His eyes were full of greed. The kid outside was completely oblivious to this change.

A few minutes later,

The waiter showed up at the gate with a gourd half his size. It probably weighed around 40 kgs, however the waiter was able to move it around easily. It was very clear that the man strong. He also had a wooden basket hanging on his shoulder and you could smell the pork ribs from it.

"Here is everything you ordered. I've added a few more servings of pork ribs since you payed so much."

The kid picked up the clothe stack and tied it to his chest and hung the gourd on his back. The wooden basket were hanging on his left hand. From afar it looked like two balloons were tied to a stick since the clothes stack and the gourd were so much wider than he was.

"Alright. Back on the journey!"

The kid started walking forward. The waiter stood at his place and kept watch at the kid until his silhouette disappeared in the fog.

'Should I take the risk? The kid definitely looks like he has some strength. The poison in his food should be able to take down even a seventh grade martial artist.'

'But I need to finish this as quickly as possibly. The hour of death will start as soon as the moon reaches the highest point and everyone inside the forest of death will die without exception regardless of their martial skill.'

As soon as the kid had taken out a silver coin, his life and death had been marked by this man. And even if he survives this predicament, he might face something even more dangerous in the black forest.

The waiter took out a tiny wooden whistle. He then blew it 3 times in succession.

In a few seconds, silhouettes of around 15 men could be seen on the top of inn. All of them dressed in black clothes with a greyish hoodie and a mask covering their entire faces.

The waiter took a deep breath and immediately switched his clothes to match those people.

"We have at-most two hours till the hour of death. We need to finish the job and be back!."

"Yes Sir!" Everyone of the shouted in unison and they all zipped forward into the forest and vanished into the fog

.......................................

In the forest, the kid was walking at a regular pace. It was a difficult to make out his body which was stuffed between the gourd and the clothe stack.

'Never in my life have I come across fog this thick. I can barely see a meter in front of me. I cannot even judge how this road curves ahead.'

'Lets rest for a while before moving ahead.'

The kid unloads his luggage and opens the lid of the wooden basket that contains pork ribs, he starts devouring it immediately.

'This does not taste bad at all. I thought the poison would ruin its taste.'

After finishing two pork ribs, the kid closed the wooden basket and consumed a tiny pill.

Immediately with an authoritative voice, he shouted

"How long do you scums plan on hiding?"

Absolute silence. He received no response.

He waited for a few seconds, but he still did not receive any response.

He took a deep breath and scrunched his eyebrows.

An object with unrecognisable shape was thrown from the kid in a certain direction with extreme speed.

"Aaaahhhhh", a loud shout came up from within the fog.

Hearing that voice, the leader became alert.

'Huh?!'

'This kid knew we were following him? But how? It is impossible to see anything in this fog.' - The leader of the group was panicking.

In the thick fog where both the parties cannot make out the position of their enemy with just their sense of vision, they would have to depend on other senses. The group of assassins were undoubtedly professionals as they had previously hunted down many high level martial artists within this fog. Even peak 8th grade martial artists were taken down by them.

Their biggest strength was the martial arts skill that they all had mastered. It was called The Feather Feet. This skill was developed by a famous assassin from the Tower of Accord, and although these people had only mastered a portion of it, it still was something that allowed them move unnoticed within the fog.

'I need to get rid him of immediately, we cannot wait for the poison to act.' - The leader instincts as a longtime assassin were kicking in.

The leader played the whistle again. This time, it was seven consecutive whistles. It was a code which meant annihilation.

As soon as all of the assassins heard the code, they lunged in towards the tree where they could make out the its silhouette. That was where the boy was eating food a minute ago.

Before the first three assassin's could land, a line of thread, thinner than a human hair, cut of their heads. They perished without ever knowing how or who killed them. In the fog this thick, a line of thread is impossible to detect with eyes. Their heads dropped on the ground and their bodies were hung in the air by a string entangled to their leg.

Eleven more heads dropped down on the ground with their bodies suspended in mid air hanged by the intricate threads.

The leader was the only one alive. As soon as he had lunged, from a tiny gap within the fog which appeared momentarily, a ray of moonlight shined on the line of thread right in front of him allowing him to see it for an instant. Even though it was thinner than human hair, being an early eight grade martial artist allowed him to duck himself right before he made contact.

He instantly landed on the ground. Before he could look ahead, right infront of his foot, he saw the severed head of his underling. The most shocking part was how clean it was cut, even a sword or a machette could not make a cut this clean.

His face paled rapidly. He knew he had to escape or else he would die as well.

He turned around with a single step and raced back towards the direction he came from. He stayed on the ground for a few meters before he launched himself towards a tree. Before he could land on the branch of the tree, a familiar voice drifted into his ear drums

"An ugly frog in the well will never understand the vastness of heavens!"

This time it sounded much more sinister. As soon as those words finished, an object thrown from the back blasted through his chest and crashed onto the tree in front of him.

"A scalpel?!". Now he could clearly make out the shape of the object. It was a scalpel the size of a pen, mainly used by doctors.

The throw literally created a giant hole on his body.

His fell down on the ground with a thud. He was breathing heavily, he knew only a few seconds were left before his death. From the corner of his eyes, he could see the kid standing right next to him with a smug on his face.

"W-Wh-Who are you?!!"

"Chu Huan Feng, a doctor"

The leader passed away after hearing that. He died a curve on the corner of his lips. He believed that the kid would likely die as well in this forest since no one can escape regardless of their martial skill.

"Now its time for harvest!" The kid rolled his sleeves from his arms. He started searching each of the bodies for loot.

He was able to find a poisons, set of tiny needles laced in poison. A set of herbs that could intoxicate and make someone unconscious when consumed. He also found a stack of notes from the assassin leaders body.

"Nice. This should be enough for me to hire a ride to cross the twelve mountains of Shanxi."
