Chapter 62 - Chapter 62: Shadows of the Alchemist

As the sun dipped beyond the horizon, casting golden hues across the academy grounds, the students buzzed with excitement. The headmasters had just announced a grand banquet to celebrate their victory over the Behemoth and to honor the esteemed guests. While the students and faculty prepared for the evening festivities, Ryo stood quietly among his fiancées, deep in thought.

"You're not coming?" Selena asked, tilting her head.

"I will, but there's something I need to check first," Ryo replied, his tone unreadable.

Seyra frowned slightly but nodded. "Don't take too long."

With a reassuring smile, Ryo unfurled his Abyssal Dragon Wings and soared into the sky, heading towards the mountains where the Behemoth had emerged. The wind howled around him as he increased his speed, determination burning in his crimson eyes. Something about the Behemoth's rampage felt off, and he needed answers.

Before departing, Ryo had already stored the Behemoth's massive corpse in his inventory, ensuring that it could be examined later. The sheer size of the creature had made it a challenge, but his spatial storage was more than capable of handling it.

After a short flight, he arrived at a massive cave hidden between jagged cliffs. The air was thick with the scent of blood and decay, and the ground bore deep claw marks. As he stepped inside, his sharp senses picked up traces of lingering mana, unnatural and concentrated in certain spots.

Moving deeper, he discovered a peculiar hole carved into the rock wall. The edges were too smooth and precise to be natural. Suspicion growing, Ryo cautiously entered and found himself in a dimly lit corridor. The scent of chemicals and aged parchment filled the air.

"A laboratory? Here?" he muttered to himself.

His eyes scanned the chamber before him, filled with broken glass tubes, rusted metal tables, and scattered papers. He picked up a few documents, his expression darkening as he read their contents.

'Subject No. 47 – Experiment on Berserking Agents: The specially formulated potion enhances aggression in any beast. Large-scale trials required. Goal: Mass control of monstrous entities.'

The implications were chilling. The Behemoth wasn't a natural threat—it was an experiment, a mere test subject. Someone had deliberately unleashed it. Ryo clenched his fist, his mind racing.

A sudden warning flared in his mind.

[Enemy Detection: Multiple hostile entities approaching the town.]

His eyes widened. Whoever was behind this hadn't stopped. More beasts were heading straight for the academy!

Without wasting a second, Ryo shot out of the cave, his wings carrying him back toward the town. Below, he saw waves of frenzied monsters charging forward. They varied in size and species—wolves, wyverns, giant boars—all with crazed eyes, foaming mouths, and unnaturally erratic movements.

"Not on my watch."

Ryo dived down, his aura flaring. He activated Bloodflame Mastery, summoning fire infused with his own blood. Crimson flames erupted around him as he swept his arm, releasing a scorching arc of destruction that incinerated dozens of beasts instantly.

The remaining creatures roared and lunged at him, but Ryo moved like a specter. His Draconic Eyes allowed him to see their movements before they even made them. He sidestepped, countered, and struck with deadly precision. His Blood Weaponry formed a lance in his hand, piercing through beast after beast.

The ground trembled beneath the weight of the carnage, but Ryo didn't slow down. Within minutes, the horde lay in smoldering heaps, lifeless. He exhaled slowly, turning his gaze to a fleeing figure clad in dark robes.

"Found you."

The cloaked man sprinted through the trees, desperation evident in his every move. He didn't get far. Ryo appeared before him in a blur, grabbing him by the collar.

"Y-you!" the man gasped.

"Who are you working for?" Ryo demanded coldly.

The man sneered. "You'll never—"

Before he could finish, Ryo tightened his grip, sending a chilling surge of Hemokinesis through the man's body. It paralyzed him instantly, preventing him from biting his tongue or activating any suicide mechanisms.

"Nice try," Ryo said flatly. With a swift blow to the back of the man's head, he knocked him unconscious. Then, storing the remaining beast corpses in his inventory, he flew back to the academy, the restrained alchemist in tow.

The banquet preparations halted abruptly when Ryo arrived with the captive. The headmasters and other high-ranking figures gathered, their faces grave as Ryo recounted his findings.

One of the instructors gasped. "An alchemical experiment? This is madness!"

The restrained man stirred and laughed maniacally. "You fools! I did it! I successfully controlled the Behemoth! My research is—"

"Controlled?" Ryo interrupted. "It went berserk. That's not control. That's failure."

The man's face contorted in rage. "You don't understand! I was so close! If I had just a little more time—"

The Dragon Emperor narrowed his eyes. "You would have unleashed more monstrosities upon the world. You are a disgrace to alchemy."

The Vampire Lord's voice was ice-cold. "This man was once an alchemy instructor here, dismissed for his unethical theories on controlling beasts. It seems he never abandoned his twisted ambitions."

The council members murmured amongst themselves, disgusted by the revelation.

"What should we do with him?" one of the elders asked.

Ryo stepped forward. "He should be interrogated thoroughly. He might have accomplices."

The Vampire Lord nodded. "Agreed. He will be placed under high-security confinement."

Guards took the alchemist away as the tension in the hall slowly eased. The crisis had been averted, but questions remained. Who else was behind this? Was it truly just one rogue alchemist, or was there a larger force at play?

Later, in his room, Ryo leaned against the wall, exhaling deeply. His fiancées entered, concern in their eyes.

"Are you alright?" Selena asked softly.

"Yeah… Just thinking about everything," Ryo admitted.

Seyra sat beside him. "You should get ready for the banquet. Everyone is waiting."

Ryo sighed but nodded. "Yeah, yeah. Let's go."

As he changed into his formal attire, he couldn't shake the feeling that this was just the beginning of something much bigger.

Something darker was lurking in the shadows, and he intended to find out what it was.
