Chapter 43 - The Deadliest Prey – Hunting the Ghost Assassin

I leaned back in my chair, flicking my cigarette into the ashtray as the System's interface flickered before me.

---

[Remaining Quest]

1. Bounty Hunter Mission – Eliminate the Ghost Assassin

A dangerous contract killer known as the Ghost Assassin has resurfaced, targeting influential people. Track them down and bring them to justice—dead or alive.

(Reward: +12 Strength, +6 Charisma, Stealth Upgrade)

I smirked, my fingers drumming against the wooden desk.

"Activate the quest."

A low chime echoed in my mind as the System confirmed:

---

[Quest Activated]

Tracking Target: Ghost Assassin...

Last known location: Black Lotus Club, Downtown, 11:00 PM.

---

I exhaled slowly.

"Finally… a real challenge."

The neon lights of Downtown's most exclusive club glowed like a beacon in the night, but I knew better. This wasn't a place for the rich to party—it was a hunting ground.

The Ghost Assassin didn't operate randomly. He only took high-profile contracts, striking in places where his victims felt the safest.

That meant someone important was on his list tonight.

I adjusted the cuffs of my black suit, the fabric fitting perfectly over my frame, tailored to hide my weapons.

As I stepped inside, the scent of expensive perfume, whiskey, and sweat filled the air.

Music pulsed through the club—a rhythmic heartbeat masking the presence of killers among the crowd.

I moved through the sea of people, scanning for anomalies.

And then—I saw him.

A man in a dark gray suit, standing at the VIP lounge, his posture too controlled, his presence almost invisible.

To anyone else, he was just another businessman.

To me—he reeked of death.

I smirked, taking a drink from a passing waiter.

"Found you."

I approached the VIP section, stepping inside without hesitation.

The assassin's dark eyes flickered toward me, a faint smirk playing on his lips.

"You're not supposed to be here."

I swirled my whiskey, taking a slow sip before replying.

"Neither are you."

His smirk widened slightly. "So… you found me?"

I set my glass down. "It wasn't hard. You're predictable."

He leaned forward, his fingers tracing the rim of his own drink. "And yet, here you are, sitting across from me instead of putting a bullet in my head."

I chuckled. "Where's the fun in that?"

The assassin studied me, his calculating gaze searching for weakness.

"You're different," he murmured. "Most bounty hunters are scared of me. But you? You're enjoying this."

I grinned. "I don't hunt for money. I hunt because it's fun."

His smirk finally faded. "I see. A predator, just like me."

Then, in a blink—he moved.

He was fast—inhumanly fast.

One moment, he was seated.

The next—his dagger was slicing toward my throat.

I tilted my head just an inch, the blade missing by a hair.

But I wasn't dodging.

I was analyzing.

He had perfect footwork.Precise strikes. He wasn't an amateur.

But neither was I.

I twisted my body, grabbing his wrist mid-slash, forcing the blade away.

He countered with a knee to my ribs—I blocked, driving my elbow into his thigh.

CRACK!

He staggered, just for a second—but that was all I needed.

I spun, delivering a devastating kick to his chest, sending him crashing through the glass table.

The club erupted in chaos, people screaming as they scattered.

I adjusted my suit, stepping toward him as he groaned, struggling to stand.

"Face it," I said coldly. "You were never the Ghost."

I raised my gun.

"I am."

He coughed, blood dripping from his lips.

"You're a monster…" he whispered.

I smirked. "And you were just prey."

I pulled the trigger.

BANG!

His body hit the floor.

The crowd gasped, the club security frozen in place.

I holstered my gun, rolling my shoulders as the System notification appeared before me.

I smirked as I walked out of the club, leaving the body behind.

And the real hunter walked free.
