Chapter 2 - Betrayal

This was not the life she had imagined. She was getting tired of the bullshit he kept dishing out and he would definitely get a piece of her mind when he shows up.

Only if Val knew she'd be stood up and woouldn't see her husband for a whole week.

As she stood up from her seat, she was typing furiously into her phone, trying to get in touch with him. But, all efforts went down the drain. Even his assistant could not be reached.

"WHAT. THE. HECK. Seb? Couldn't you at least send a message letting me know you wouldn't make it? I sat there for almost two hours waiting for you. Where the fuck are you? Call me".

That was the voicemail she left for him.

No, he didn't call her. No, he didn't come home that night and many nights after.

She got home, freshened up, set up a movie to keep her awake, and stayed up all night waiting for her husband to come home. By the time the sun was peeking out, she was scared out of her pants.

She had already called everyone that he could be with, but no one had seen or heard from him. She tried reporting to the police, but apparently, he can't be reported missing until it has been 24 hours. Not even Lila was able to calm her troubled mind.

When her eyes couldn't stay opened any longer, she climbed into bed, hoping and praying to God that her husband was safe and uninjured.

The constant ringing of her phone brought her out of her sleeping state. She hurriedly removed the covers, sat up straight and retrieved her phone from the bedside table, thinking it was Sebastian.

Sadly, he was not the one. It was Lila on the phone, probably trying to see how things are and check up on her.

Groggily, she answered the phone, with her hoarse voice.

"Hey, babes, good morning".

"Val, I've been trying to reach you for so long. Where have you been? And, it is noon already, don't tell me you went to bed late, and you're just getting up?

"Okay, I won't tell you". Her best friend knew her too much, even more than her supposed husband did. Also, not until Lila mentioned it did she check the time and saw that it was 12pm. Damn, she really was tired.

"Stop trying to sound okay when you are not, babes. It is okay not to be okay. Did you at least sleep good? Have you heard from Seb, yet? What was his excuse for going completely off the grid?

Questions after questions shot out from Lila, even rendering Val speechless.

"Okay, calm down, yound woman. Where do I start from?

"Ooph, I'm sorry. I am only worried about you".

"I know. But to answer your questions, if I can remember all. Yes, I slept good. I did nor even realize it was noon already. No, I have not heard from Seb, talk more of listening to his excuse. I decided I would go to his company after freshening up to see things for myself".

"Alright, that's good. Be sure to give him hell if he is in the office. I will call you later, gurl. I have to go now".

"Love, ya. Bye, babes".

After dropping the call, she descended the stairs into the kitchen to get something to eat. Her stomach was grumbling and this point, the last time she had food to eat was the previous day during lunch.

A sumptuous meal of bacon and egg later, she was ready to go to Seb's company.

Forty-five minutes later, she pulled into the parking lot of his company.

The SEB's AND SONS logo stood out at the top of the building. The asthetic of this place gets her every time. She was wowed and will always stop to admire what they did with the place anytime she stops by.

Not today, though. Adjusting her hair, she pushed open the glass doors that led to the reception area.

The staffs walking by, said 'Hi' when they saw her, unlike the first time she came around to see Seb, when they were at the honeymoon phase of their relationship. The events of that day would never not be funny to her. She was eyed maliciously by the receptionist till she called him and he had to come down himself. She still remember the fear in the receptionists eyes when they saw that she wasn't joking around.

But now, everything she walks through those doors, she'd be greeted with respect and some of them even go as far as bowing.

"Good afternoon, ma'am. How can I be of assistance to you, today?. That was the receptionist.

"Hello, Gina. A wonderful day it is, isn't it? How are you? It's been a little long time since I met you around, I was told you have been on the evening shift for a while now". Smiling brightly, she answered her.

"Yes, that's true. What do you need me to do for you? Mr. Cross isn't in, at the moment. Though, I know you already knew that".

"Contrary to your thoughts, I did not already know that. Seb isn't in? Do you perhaps have an idea about his whereabouts? See, it is one of those days, we had an argument and he didn't speak to me before leaving the house when he left. Could you tell me, please?

Jutting out her lower lips, and widening her doe-liked eyes, she knew Gina wouldn't be able to resist her charm. And man, was she right.

"He went for a meeting and won't be back till tomorrow. Though, from the whispers going around just in the lunch room, looks like he went on an important meeting with a socialite and meetings like this might last up to a seven days. And before you ask, the location is Paris".

Wow. Paris!

"Thank you, Gina. I'd be sure to not disclose where I got my information from. Here, I brought you this. Thank you so much for your time". Dripping the box of cookies she had almost forgotten about, she turned around and went to her car.

Sebastian went to Paris and did not deem it fit at least drop a message for her? What went wrong?

"Is he really che…" No, she wouldn't entertain that thought. The Seb she knew would not do that to her.

He wouldn't, yeah? Or, would her?
