Chapter 10 - Chapter 10: Rising Above

The world narrowed to the space between them. Every breath, every step, every beat of their hearts—synchronized in the dance of battle. The arena's stones bore the scars of their struggle, cracks splintering outward from each impact.

Leon's grin was wild, eyes alight with a thrill that bordered on madness. "You've got potential, I'll give you that. But let's see how far it goes."

Kairos steadied his breath, feeling the hum of energy coursing through his veins. His vision had sharpened, colors more vibrant, edges more defined. Even the smallest shift in Leon's stance telegraphed his next move.

The system was adapting, rewriting the limits of his body in real-time.

And it wasn't done yet.

Leon charged, the ground splintering beneath his feet. His fist, wrapped in a thin layer of shimmering energy, drove forward with the force of a battering ram.

Kairos leaned back, feeling the shockwave as the punch missed his face by a hair's breadth. In that split second, he saw his opening. He twisted, bringing his knee up into Leon's side.

The blow landed hard, forcing a grunt from Leon as he staggered sideways. But Leon recovered instantly, spinning with a backhand aimed at Kairos' head.

Kairos raised his forearm, blocking the strike. The impact reverberated through his bones, but he held firm, twisting Leon's arm and pulling him off balance.

Leon's eyes widened. For the first time, the confidence in his gaze faltered. "What the hell are you?"

Kairos didn't answer. He couldn't. Words were meaningless here. Only the clash of bodies and the will to stand unbroken mattered.

Leon's aura flared, a violent swirl of energy that cracked the ground beneath them. The crowd gasped, feeling the sheer power radiating from him.

"Alright, new guy," Leon said, his voice low and dangerous. "Let's end this."

Kairos braced himself as Leon charged again, faster than before, a blur of raw strength and aggression. But Kairos' senses had sharpened beyond human limits. He could see each muscle in Leon's body tensing, could hear the rush of air as his fists cut through the atmosphere.

They clashed at the center of the arena, the force of their collision sending a massive shockwave that rocked the stands.

Kairos ducked under a wild hook, driving his shoulder into Leon's chest and forcing him back. He followed up with a rapid series of strikes—jabs, elbows, knees—each one driving Leon further and further toward the edge of the arena.

Leon growled, catching one of Kairos' punches and twisting his arm painfully. Kairos gritted his teeth as Leon swung him around and slammed him into the ground.

Pain flared through his back, but it was a distant thing, muffled by the adrenaline and the system's adaptive enhancements. Kairos rolled away as Leon's foot came crashing down, leaving a crater in the stone.

"You're tough," Leon admitted, breathing heavily. Sweat dripped from his brow, his muscles straining from the prolonged battle. "But you can't win."

Kairos rose to his feet, wiping blood from the corner of his mouth. His chest heaved, but he felt it—the relentless surge of power, the unyielding drive to rise higher.

I can't lose.

Not here. Not now.

The system pulsed within him, feeding him a steady stream of energy, knitting together bruises and torn muscles. His vision flickered for a moment, and he saw—

A flash of memories not his own. Ancient battles. Lost warriors. Beings of light and shadow locked in eternal struggle.

And a voice, ancient and profound, whispering from the depths of his soul:

"Rise, and become more."

Kairos' eyes snapped open, blazing with newfound determination. He planted his feet firmly, the stone cracking beneath his heels.

Leon noticed the shift, his smirk fading into a frown. "What's this now? Still got some fight left?"

Kairos took a slow, deliberate step forward. Then another. The ground quaked with each stride. His energy expanded outward, an invisible force pressing down on the spectators, sending shivers up their spines.

Selene's eyes widened in realization. "He's… awakening."

Leon roared, his own energy spiking as he rushed forward, throwing everything into a final, desperate assault. His fists became a blur, each strike enough to break bone and shatter stone.

But Kairos moved like water—fluid, untouchable. He sidestepped, deflected, redirected. Each of Leon's attacks met only empty air or a hardened block.

Then, with one perfectly timed counter, Kairos drove his palm into Leon's chest, the force sending him flying back into the arena's wall.

The wall cracked under the impact, debris crumbling around Leon as he fell to his knees, gasping for air.

Kairos stood tall, his breathing steady, his gaze unwavering. He had surpassed the limits he had known. He had risen above, evolved beyond the ordinary.

Aether's voice cut through the silence, carrying a weight that commanded respect. "The duel is over. Victory goes to Kairos Valtieri."

The crowd erupted into cheers and whispers, their opinions of the newcomer shifting rapidly.

Leon struggled to his feet, his eyes narrowed but holding a grudging respect. "Looks like I was wrong about you," he admitted. "You're not just some nobody."

Kairos offered a hand, helping Leon to his feet. "Thanks. You pushed me past my limits."

Leon chuckled, wincing slightly. "Don't get cocky. Next time, I'll be the one standing."

Kairos nodded, a small smile forming. "Looking forward to it."

Selene approached, her smirk returning. "So, how does it feel to be the new star of Astralis Academy?"

Kairos sighed, glancing at the crowd still buzzing with excitement. "Honestly? Exhausting."

Selene laughed. "Get used to it. Things are only going to get more intense from here."

Kairos knew she was right. The duel was just the beginning. His power was still growing, his path still unfolding. And whatever the Celestial System had planned for him, he was ready to face it.

Because with every fight, every challenge, he would rise—higher and higher—until no one could stand in his way.
