Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: A Stacked Deck

Leon's presence meant trouble. Not just because he was one of Ethan's biggest adversaries, but because he was dangerously competent. If he had decided to make an example out of me, then escaping this unscathed would be almost impossible.

Professor Reynald gestured for him to continue, and Leon stepped forward. "I witnessed Ethan del Arvent harassing a first-year student just days ago. His behavior has not changed despite previous warnings. I demand action be taken."

Murmurs spread through the room. Some nodded in agreement, others watched with detached interest. No one here was on my side.

I exhaled slowly. This was going to be a long battle.

I needed to turn the tables. Fast.

I met Leon's gaze directly. "Do you have proof?"

A flicker of irritation crossed his expression. "Witness testimony is enough."

"Testimony from whom?"

Leon's jaw tightened. "The victim prefers to remain anonymous."

Of course. That was a convenient way to ensure I had no means of defending myself.

I clasped my hands behind my back, keeping my tone steady. "With all due respect, Professor Reynald, I am willing to accept judgment, but I believe the academy values fairness. Without concrete evidence, it becomes a matter of one person's word against another's."

Reynald frowned slightly, clearly considering my words. Leon, however, looked ready to snap.

"You expect us to believe you?" he asked coldly. "After everything you've done?"

I didn't rise to the bait. "I expect fairness. If you believe I'm guilty, then present undeniable proof."

Tension thickened the air. I could tell I had managed to plant at least a sliver of doubt. But doubt alone wouldn't be enough. I needed something more—something that would shift the balance in my favor.

Unfortunately, I had no allies in this room.

Yet.
