Chapter 14 - arrival

Sunny and his teammates finally arrived at the camp, the humvee's engines roaring as they skidded to a stop. Sunny jumped out of the vehicle, his rifle still clutched in his hand.

"Bring down the hostages!" he shouted to his men. "Check them for any bullet wounds!"

The soldiers quickly moved to obey, helping the hostages down from the truck and checking them for injuries. Sunny watched, his eyes scanning the area to make sure they were safe.

The soldiers in the camp were drawn towards the humvee, their eyes wide with curiosity. The vehicle was a mess, bullet holes riddling the armor and shattered glass littering the ground.

One of the soldiers whistled softly. "Looks like you guys had a rough ride," he said.

Sunny nodded grimly. "We took some heavy fire," he said. "But we made it out."

The soldiers nodded, their faces somber. They knew the risks of their job, and they respected Sunny and his team for making it back alive.

Sunny turned to his men. "Get the hostages to medical," he said. "We need to get them checked out and make sure they're okay."

The soldiers nodded and moved to obey, helping the hostages towards the medical tent. Sunny watched, his eyes still scanning the area to make sure they were safe.

Sunny approached Sergeant Thompson, who was overseeing the unloading of the hostages. "Sergeant, I'm heading to see Colonel Lee to brief him on the mission," Sunny said.

Thompson nodded, his expression serious. "Roger that, sir. I'll take care of the men and make sure they get some food and rest."

Sunny nodded, his eyes scanning the area to make sure everything was under control. "Make sure they get a hot meal, Sergeant. They've earned it after what we've been through."

Thompson nodded, a small smile on his face. "Already on it, sir. I've got the mess hall preparing a feast for them."

Sunny nodded, feeling a sense of relief wash over him. He knew his men were in good hands with Thompson. "Good. I'll be back soon. Just make sure everything stays quiet around here."

Thompson nodded, his expression serious once again. "Will do, sir. Be careful with the Colonel."

Sunny nodded and turned to head towards Colonel Lee's office, his mind already focused on the debriefing ahead.

Sunny reached the entrance to Colonel Lee's office and cleared his throat to get the messenger's attention. "Is the Colonel inside?" he asked.

The messenger, a young soldier, nodded and quickly got up from his chair. "Let me check, sir," he said, and disappeared into the office.

Sunny waited outside, his ears still ringing from the sounds of gunfire and explosions they had endured during the mission. As he stood there, he could still hear the distant sounds of bullets and shells, a reminder that the conflict was far from over.

The sounds were faint, but unmistakable - the staccato burst of machine gun fire, the boom of artillery shells, the rattle of small arms fire. Sunny's mind automatically began to analyze the sounds, trying to pinpoint the location and intensity of the fighting.

But he pushed those thoughts aside, focusing instead on the task at hand. He took a deep breath, mentally preparing himself for the debriefing with Colonel Lee.

The messenger reappeared, nodding to Sunny. "The Colonel will see you now, sir," he said.

Sunny nodded, took a final deep breath, and stepped into the office.
