Chapter 2 - STORMY NIGHT PART 1

Jess was the undisputed queen of Ridgewood High. With her designer clothes, perfect smile, and sharp wit, she ruled the school with an iron fist. Her clique—Mia, Taylor, and Ryan—were her loyal followers, always ready to laugh at her jokes or join in on her cruel pranks. Together, they were untouchable. But their favorite target was Lila, a quiet, introverted girl who seemed to exist only to be their punching bag. Lila's thrift-store clothes, shy demeanor, and love for books made her an easy target. Jess and her friends tormented her relentlessly, mocking her in the hallways, spreading rumors, and even vandalizing her locker. Lila never fought back. She just took it, her eyes always downcast, her voice barely above a whisper. One Friday night, Jess and her friends were driving home from a party. Jess was behind the wheel, her head buzzing from the alcohol she'd consumed. The car was filled with laughter and loud music as they recounted the night's events. Mia was in the passenger seat, scrolling through her phone, while Taylor and Ryan were in the back, playfully arguing over who had embarrassed themselves the most at the party. As they rounded a dark, deserted road, a figure suddenly stepped into the headlights. Jess slammed on the brakes, but it was too late. The car hit the person with a sickening thud. The music stopped, and the laughter died in their throats. Jess's heart raced as she realized who it was—Lila. "Oh my God, oh my God, oh my God!" Mia screamed, clutching her chest. Taylor and Ryan were frozen in the backseat, their faces pale. Jess stepped out of the car, her legs shaking, and approached Lila's motionless body. Blood pooled beneath her head, and her eyes were closed. Jess checked for a pulse but felt nothing. Panic set in. "She's dead," Jess whispered, her voice trembling. "We… we killed her." Taylor, always the voice of reason, suggested calling 911, but Jess immediately shut her down. "No! If we call the police, we'll go to jail. My parents will kill me. We can't let anyone know about this." Ryan, who had been silent until now, spoke up. "Jess, we can't just leave her here. What if someone finds her?" "No one comes down this road at night," Jess said, her voice firm despite the fear in her eyes. "We'll leave her. No one will suspect us." After a tense argument, they agreed. They got back in the car and drove off, leaving Lila's broken body on the side of the road. What they didn't know was that Lila was still alive, barely clinging to life. She woke up hours later, her body wracked with pain, her mind filled with rage. She had heard their voices, their decision to leave her for dead. And she vowed to make them pay.
